  1. I ❤️ Chicago. I lived there for a few years as a child and moved to the South, but it is my favorite city. I have taken all of my children back for visits, with my youngest and I finally going for a road trip last summer. The Museum of Science and Industry is still my favorite. She wanted to visit several of the 'photo-heavy' things such as the Ice Cream Museum and Color Museum but we also hit up the Shedd Aquarium, 2 different highrises with great views, and also my favorite, Giordanos for their Chicago-style deep dish pizza.
  2. As I said upthread, we traveled Monday from Virginia to Indianapolis for a swim meet yesterday (initially from Georgia). We stopped at a random rest stop in Indiana for the Eclipse. It was worth it. I was with my daughter and her coach and have some wonderful photos of them enjoying it. I had plenty of glasses so shared them with the many truckers who did not have any. I was glad to share with the very appreciative OTR drivers.
  3. I'm just now reading this as our plans have changed. We were supposed to fly into Indianapolis for a swim meet Monday night but we are now driving. We are leaving VA early that morning and I think we will arrive in Dayton, OH in time for the eclipse. Reading this thread, it looks like after the eclipse, to continue on to Indianapolis, the traffic is likely to be horrendous. Or maybe it won't be too bad since we are still driving towards where the eclipse was? Thoughts? Honesty, initially I never even thought about being in Indianapolis at the same time as the eclipse, my husband is the one who mentioned it was the same time LOL
  4. If you are secure with your DH, there is no reason at all to worry about what she does. Not exactly the same thing but my husband's ex-GF was always trying to stir up trouble when we were dating. I thought we were finished with her antics when we moved away to go to college. Several years later we were married and our first child was about six months old and she called our home in the middle of the day looking for my husband, the best of my memory is I was home from work under the weather. I can't even imagine what she went through to find out his phone number at that time. I was cordial to her and when I hung up the phone I just shook my head. Of course, when he arrived home that night I just laughed letting him know his old GF had resurfaced trying to track him down. We have been together about 40 years now and another woman is not something I worry about.
  5. The Orlando DMVs actually handed you your DLs right then and there. I had never been in a DMV like that before. I would call around and see if that is possible near you.
  6. My last tetanus shot, a few months ago was so easy. I kept praising the pharmacist who gave it to me as I couldn't believe how painless it was as I swear I vividly remember each one I have had prior. My arm wasn't even sore after. This pharmacist has given me about 4 vaccines now and either he really knows what he is doing or is just giving me placebos.
  7. I just have Apple TV and Apple Music. The Music is the family version as my children (grown) enjoy it also and then regular Apple TV. I have no use for games.
  8. Our service dog organization uses golden retrievers, black labs, yellow labs and mixes of the same. They will often have a cross of a black lab and a golden retriever that looks like a black golden retriever. They are gorgeous to me.
  9. Passport is worth the $$ to me. I have had it for a couple of years. When someone announced Season 4 premier was available, episode 1-3 were already available on Passport. Plenty of series I go back and rewatch over and over. I also subscribe to Acorn and Britbox.
  10. I have a pair of leather Chacos that feel just as great as the regular Chacos and bonus, look very nice. You might want to check them out.
  11. Thank you so much for letting us know. I must have missed there was a new season coming out.
  12. 'supposed' is the keyword there. Unfortunately, vocational rehab is a joke in most states. 1st hand knowledge here. My daughter started the process with them over 15 months ago and is considered a priority 1 case. I was also a provider in my prior life for vocational rehabilitation clients over ten years ago. In our state, individuals who had previously been incarcerated had the best chance of obtaining help through VR, although it was still slow as molasses and only if you happened to be assigned to a caseworker that cared, which was rare. Their main goal is to not spend a dime, not help.
  13. We have used Hulu Live for about 8 years now. Honestly, I don't know what channels it has because we have other streaming services also and if we can't find something on one service, we look on another but I use Hulu about 80% of the time. If I am looking for a particular show, I use the app JustWatch, search for the show and it tells me which of my streaming services it is on.
  14. Returned from Chile recently. No where I thought I would visit but ended up there anyway. It was a beautiful country with much to see. Was encouraged to visit Argentina on the same trip. My 'NOs' are Mexico, Brazil and a few other countries so I understand. LOVED our Alaskan cruise. Looking at Italy or Greece for next year.
  15. Splurge for Supernatural. For you, for the kids. It is a fun workout app. I believe the yearly price dropped recently. I'm not really a video gamer but for my now adult son, when he was younger, I feel some of the story-type games (I can't think of the term right now to save my life), are great for logic building.
  16. If it is in your budget, go with the dailies. They have worked so well for my one who is a contact user. My husband started using contacts as a teen and I can assure you he did not take good care of them and wore them much longer then he was supposed to. It would have been much better if he had dailies.
  17. First, I can assure you the coach is already well aware of this mother and her antics. They know what is going on, but just for their own sanity, and the kids, they have to focus on their students and not get involved in the parent drama. My own drama, we had one mom who was such a problem. She tracked all the statistics of all the other athletes and was constantly in the children's business. She was the most toxic part of our team. I gave my daughter permission to walk away from her and not even respond to her when she started questioning her, something I would never condone with any other adult. Finally, one day at a meet, when I had already had a stressful day, I walked in and she started in on my daughter right in front of me, questioning her again. I'm not proud of myself, but at the same time I am 🙂 I looked her in the eye and let her know that my daughter's name was never to cross her lips again, she was never to talk to or about my daughter again. My child was none of her concern and she should focus on her own child only. From that point on, she gave my daughter and I a huge berth. It was wonderful.
  18. It hasn't been an issue here. I guess we are just lucky. 2 labs and a GSD who can chew through anything but they just know what really is food and what isn't. They love to grab paper towels and tissue from me when they see them but they just shred them and don't eat them. I taught them all a good solid 'leave it' from an early age to help reinforce what they are allowed to eat.
  19. Frozen Kongs and Frozen Toppls. Fill an emptied-out bell pepper with similar treats as frozen kong and freeze.
  20. My dogs enjoy the above toy and ones similar even though they can 'solve' them quickly. Two of our favorites: Take a handtowel and wet it. Place kibble or treats on the open towel and then roll it up tight and then tie it up as tight as possible. Freeze the towel overnight. Give to your dog Place kibble or treats in a small box, amazon packing bag. Close up. Place in slightly bigger box and close up. Give to your dog and they have to chew the box open to get to the kibble/treats. One dog I place box inside box inside box.
  21. Trying not to give too many details, but my daughter was recently at an international event under US guidelines. She tested positive on the 2nd day. She was quarantined. Once she was fever-free for 48 hours on about day 6 they tested her utilizing a different type of Covid test as they stated she could remain Covid-positive using standard testing for weeks and weeks. She was negative on this specialized test and she was allowed back into the event. Mind you, it could have taken everyone else out of the event if she was still contagious. No one else from the US contingency tested positive during the 2 weeks they were there. She flew back to the US with the group without issue. She was feeling under the weather about a week later (so 3 weeks after testing positive) and was still yielding a weak positive on a standard Covid test. All that to say, this is a US agency with probably some of the strictest COVID policies still out there and they let her back with the others after about a week, and on the plane at 2 weeks. I would feel comfortable letting your DS fly at 2 weeks.
  22. I LOVE Aimovig. I've been on Botox for migraines for so many years I can't remember. Botox cut my migraine days from about 20+ to around 6-8. Adding Aimovig takes my migraine days from 6-8 to less than 1 migraine a MONTH. So it is the combination that works best for me. I tried Qulipta. I'm not a great pill taker and they were horrible for me. I'm a big wimp but I am now a pro at giving myself shots. For breakthrough migraines, I give myself a shot of imitrex so I've been giving myself shots for years now. Edited to add: Due to an insurance change, I had to give up my Aimovig about 2 years ago. Migraines went back up to 6-8. Finally was able to get it back 2 months ago. YES!!! I fought and fought to have it again. Most insurance will not allow you to have Botox plus Aimovig at the same time. I started Botox plus Aimovig about 5 years ago. Edited again: migraine count is per month. Sorry
  23. I was in Chile last week. One of my Uber drivers was strongly encouraging a trip to Argentina as he said it was so cheap to travel there right now. Chile was inexpensive IMHO. He mentioned a wonderful steak dinner for about $10USD. Really nice accommodations for less than $80USD.
  24. Can you find out and pm me the name of the breeder or organization this dog came from? I have a friend right now looking for a great dane for a service dog since it will be used for mobility/stability. Thanks!
  25. If you decide to get one a) try not to choose one based on color. Ask the breeder (who you will research well) to pick the one with the temperament that matches what you are looking for and 2) when you have the dog spayed or neutered also have the dog's stomach tacked (gastropexy). My vet charged me about $150 more for my German Shepherd and it greatly reduces or eliminates the chance of bloat which can extend their lifespan.
