  1. I would recommend this book http://www.logicofenglish.com/products/books/item/1-uncovering-paperback You could go through it with her, so she can see how all of the spelling rules apply to English. It goes through all of the material that All About Spelling covers. I went through AAS with my younger two. While it taught them all of the spelling rules, the words were pretty simple, so they didn't necessarily learn any new words.
  2. I know quite a few homeschoolers in Rochester too, but very few classical ones. I have one friend who recently started, so it's fun to talk with her. Someone who actually understands me!
  3. IEW will have him write down three key words for each sentence, and give him ways to make the sentences more interesting(dress-ups) I'll tell you how I'm trying to fix this with my two youngest. I have been giving them a list of questions to answer daily. For example, Where is Paris? Then they need to rephrase the question with the answer in it. Paris is in France. When they can show me that they are doing a good job rephrasing the question, I allow them to just give me the answer in a complete sentence. I will eventually have them do this in all subjects, but I wanted them to practice doing it well first so they know what is expected from them.
  4. You can call them and ask for a free shipping code. Sometimes they offer free shipping on $35 and sometimes it has to be $100.
  5. My oldest ds will be a 9th grader next year. Though he's already done some high school level work, it seems much more real that he'll be a high school student soon. He has so many things he would like to do, but hasn't narrowed it down at all. We have a very full year planned, so I hope it all goes well!
  6. I'm only ten miles from Rochester!
  7. My oldest son is using it right now. He's about 2/3 of the way through, and is doing very well with it. I think the DVDs have been helpful. They are not the best quality. You can tell when they cut and paste the video, but my son thinks it's hilarious. The guy will have his hair styled one way and then all of a sudden his hair will be sticking up in some weird way. The guy on the DVDs does a good job of teaching though.
  8. Is it Concordia? http://www.concordialanguagevillages.org/newsite/ I have looked at these for my oldest. They sure do look good!
  9. :iagree: I returned the Phonetic Zoo after using it for 6 months. It wasn't working for us, so I thought I would test out their policy. They gave me back all of my money plus shipping and gave me a pre-paid shipping label to send it back. They really do stand behind their money back guarantee.
  10. This looks like an amazing place, and it's only an hour from where we live! I'll definitely have to look into it more.
  11. We have been getting snow all day here in MN. My daffodils are not happy.
  12. I have the schedule for 5th-8th grade. I don't know if that is the grade level you are looking for. If it is, I'd be happy to share it with you.
  13. Bummer! I wish that everyone who wanted to be there could be. We'll be traveling from the Rochester area, but dh and I both grew up in Duluth, so it doubles as a visit home.
  14. Is anyone else going to the MACHE conference this weekend? I'll be in the TOG booth most of the time. I would love to meet anyone who will be there. Please stop by and introduce yourself if you get a chance!
  15. I don't live in WI, but I'm in SE MN, only 45 minutes away. Just wanted to welcome you to the area!
  16. Is this a high school level course? My son is interested in taking German. He is currently taking Spanish and Latin, and would like to add German.
  17. I don't know the answer, but I ordered the newest edition, and I am patiently waiting for it to arrive.
  18. Mine are 12. They sometimes think it's funny to confuse people, but I don't usually let them dress the same to confuse people. Although, most people can't tell them apart anyway.
