  1. My 7th graders are on lesson 80 of 8/7. They will probably move to algebra for the 2nd half of the year. My oldest ds started algebra at the beginning of 7th.
  2. :iagree: He should know if he owns the fence or not, and if he owns it, he should pay for it. It seems odd to me that he would even ask you about asking the neighbors to pay a part of it.
  3. I am using it with my two 7th graders this year. We are only on the 2nd lesson, so I can't give you too much advice. We are really liking it so far. One thing that has helped me to teach it well is using the DVDs that have teacher instruction. I am trying not to rush through the lessons and make sure we understand everything before moving on. If you have any specific question, I'd be happy to try and answer them.
  4. I had three people bring meals to me. Two of them left pretty quickly after seeing the babies, but there was one man that just wouldn't leave. My dh was home so he just stayed and chatted with us forever. It was making me crazy because I was so tired and hungry, but what do you say to someone who has just brought you dinner?
  5. We should be here for each other through the good and the bad. I love to hear good news!
  6. Check out Shari Braendel's books that she wrote on fashion. She even has a blog with all kinds of great fashion tips. http://www.sharibraendel.com/speakers_blog.html
  7. That song came to mind as soon as I read the post, but yet I have no idea what it means!
  8. I think year 2 is the hardest for rhetoric level lit. I would probably let him read the dialectic level lit. for a while, and then try to move him back up to rhetoric. You could also ask the TOG people. They might have some helpful tips.
  9. We buy ours from Dunn Brothers because they roast the beans in the store daily.
  10. Has anyone tried using Sequential Spelling with the DVD? It looks like it would be completely independent if you used it in this way. I am curious to know how this has worked for anyone who has done it this way.
  11. Thanks for this information. I didn't realize the super essay is really a research paper.
  12. I just looked through the lesson plans for SICC-C, and it doesn't look like there is anything on research papers. Research papers are in unit 6 of IEW. I know when we used SWI-B it was covered in there. I tried to use Elegant Essay with my ds last year, but we didn't have much luck with it. SICC-C spends more than half of the lessons writing different kinds of essays. I am pretty happy with it so far. My son likes Andrew, and is doing very well with it. If you have any other questions I'd be happy to answer them. I'm not an IEW expert, but we've used their products for a few years now.
  13. I don't have much time to post right now, but my ds is going through the IEW Continuation Course C right now. He is currently writing what they call a biographical essay. He needed to gather multiple resources about a person, and is learning how to compile that information to write a five paragraph essay. Is this what you are talking about, or is there something else you had in mind? If you have any other questions about the continuation course, please let me know.
  14. I wake them up at 7:00 on normal school days. On Monday, Tuesday & Friday mornings two of my boys have jazz band at 7:15, so I have made it their responsibility to set an alarm clock and get themselves up for the day.
  15. Congratulations! It will definitely be a lot of work, but it's also a lot of fun!:D
  16. Here in MN homeschool students are allowed to participate in any sports or other extra curricular activities. They are also allowed to take classes at the ps as long as there is enough room and materials available. We don't have a lot of regulation here either, so I consider this to be a pretty good state for homeschooling.
  17. My boys all take band at our local ps, but it doesn't really benefit the school. For them to get funding for a student they have to attend at least two hours a day. I'm not sure how it worked out that our state allows shared time, but I know there are people working hard here in MN to keep homeschooling rights safe. Just this past summer there were some major changes made about homeschooling that made it easier for us when it comes to reporting each year.
  18. :lurk5: I'm interested to get an answer to this question. My oldest ds is doing advanced math this year, and I would like to give him a geometry credit and grade. Anyone have a good solution for this?
  19. I have been using Winsor Pilates for many years now, and I am happy with the results when I'm consistent with it.
  20. When my doctor went to listen to the heartbeat he kept hearing an echo and thought his machine was just acting weirdly. Since I was measuring a bit big he sent me to have an ultrasound where we found out we were having twin boys! They are now 13.
  21. That's what I got mine for about five years ago on Black Friday. I don't think it gets much better than that.
  22. Has anyone here used this binder? I would love to use my 40% off coupon on it, but only if it's going to work well.
