  1. Ha! This is what I was going to say. Although my kids seem to like this song! Of course, not when I'm singing it.
  2. Haahaha!!! It WAS MTV for old people....all "soft rock" type stuff! Too funny:lol: I do remember this....and the weeks of "I want my MTV!" commercials leading up to it!
  3. I watched the start up videos last night as well. I don't think I will be able to read a novel and write a decent essay in 5 days:(. Too bad, I was looking forward to it.
  4. Be sure to use extra caution when eating out. What doesn't cause one kid to react, might cause a reaction in yours. For example, I see some people saying their kids do fine at Taco Bell and Sonic. My dd has had reactions both places. I have also learned to talk to a manager at restaurants, not the waitress. The manager usually is more aware of how to properly handle cross contamination. Most times the manager will actually bring dd's food out to her. Anyway, thought I'd throw that out there:)
  5. Right now I owe over $100. Ugh. We moved and somehow the books ended up packed away. I returned them, but they are still charging me the replacement fee. I need to just go in there and talk them down....
  6. You're right, it is not a moral obligation for the general public. I just meant that for me, personally, it is. Not that my parents have the obligation ( or even the expectation) to help me, but that I feel the moral obligation and desire to financially help out my kids when they have families.....just because that's how my family has done it for generations. It's been a blessing for me and my kids and I hope dh and I can do the same:)
  7. I wasn't offended at all....I may not be a friend, but I will happily join the child like camp if it means my parents help me out financially if they want to/have the ability:). I can't wait to help out my kids when they are a young family. I think sometimes things come off differently on a message board than if they were spoken.....truly nor offended and very happy with my family relationships!
  8. Well, I guess I'm in the child like camp then. My parents help us each month with part of our kids extra-curriculars. We never asked them and they have no responsibility to do so. They do so out of love. My children wouldn't be able to do all they do if not for their help. I am so grateful and plan to pay it forward to my grandchildren. I don't feel like a child....I could refuse their help so that what? My kids would miss out and other people would see me as a grown up? I think it's a blessing and everyone in my family does whatever they can to help one another out. We all have something we can offer others in our family (time, money, support, etc.) and we all give it freely. Maybe we don't have a legal responsibility, but I was raised with the moral responsibility to be there for your family. Reading this thread makes me feel SO lucky to be a part of my family!
  9. My parents have always been there for me. Something breaks at home and dh can't fix it? My dad runs over. I had a bad day and just want to cry? My mom is there to listen. An unexpected financial burden we can't afford? Yup, they will help out with that too. These may not be their responsibilities by law or according to other people, but I feel darn lucky that THEY feel these are there responsibilities. And you better believe I plan to pay it all forward to my children. My kids will always be my babies. I feel like it IS my responsibilty (and one that I take on happily) to do everything I can to support, love them, and help them as much as I can.
  10. Wow. I only made it through page seven. I really can't believe some of the posts on this thread. Blaming kids (or adults) for wanting to new their bio patents, divorcing your dh because he had a child before you even met that even he didn't know of....just wow. I would surely end up banned if I posted what I really thought!
  11. Thank you so much for your input....a lot of great suggestions! I am keeping a list and plan on working on it a bit tonight!
  12. I am starting an enrichment program in our area. I created a website and would love some feedback! Anything I could do to improve the site? Would the cost turn you off? What do you like/dislike about the program? Thanks so much for taking the time to look...we have put a lot of time in to the curriculum, site, etc. Oh, and wish us luck....this is a huge undertaking!!! http://www.creativemindsenrichment.org
  13. Wow....you've really had a rough time of it lately:grouphug: Hang in there....I hope this start to settle down for you soon!
  14. I'm so sorry:(. Having a child with special needs can be difficult enough. My oldest dd's grandma (thankfully never my MIL as we were never married) used to tell me that I was over reacting and dd did not have any delays. She told me that I should try reading to her more:glare: Dd was diagnosed with Autism a few years later. She was still in denial and thought most of her problems were because I didn't work with her enough. Even though I knew this was a bunch of crap, it hurt. Another time, when we were fundraising for dd's service dog, my grandma gave a flyer to a friend that read her story and said "yeah, the mom was probably a drug addict". So, I understand where you are coming from. You just can't reason with some people. Try to find a support group for parents of children with special needs. I really don't think someone can understand what it's like unless they have been there. I'm sorry she hurt you:(. Some people just don't get it!
  15. We have had a Cuisinart for almost seven years. It's the first one we bought that made it past the one year mark! We used to buy Mr. Coffee but I found that after a while they tend to leak water everywhere!
  16. I usually go all out with make up (just because I love to do it), but on days wihen I'm short on time I'll do a quick natural look with: Clinique tinted sunscreen (light, not greasy) Josie Maran Argan color stick for cheeks and lips (love this stuff!) Black mascara Concealer under eyes A little powder on brows Hello Flawless powder by Benefit for a little more coverage
  17. We use a waterproof pouch we got on Amazon. It looks like a fanny pack, which is not really the coolest look, but dh usually tuck it into his shorts:)
  18. I'll add another recommendation for boxers. I am not a dog person (the rest of my family is) and even I like her:). She is great with the kids, super friendly, smart, and just a really good girl. She has enough energy to get out and play ball, etc. with the kids, but isn't crazy in the house.
  19. Nope. We're out in the country. All the roads around here are two lane windy backroads.
  20. Province mountain. It comes out like meowntain. Also, eating without my jaw popping. Thank you TMJ.
  21. I've never been to Ft. Irwin, but I've been to Barstow which is about a half hour away, I think. What first comes to mind is desert heat! I would definitely check it out first. There isn't much around Barstow IIRC!
  22. A few more things I don't miss: smog (we had days when I was in school that PE was cancelled due to air quality), the graffiti, litter, the cars with their bumping music, the gangs, the gov., the teeny tiny yards....I'll stop! I would really recommend staying for a while wherever you are considering moving to get a feel for the people, traffic, etc.
  23. I have a couple thirty one bags. Love the print and so far they have held up well!
  24. I grew up in the Bay Area and then lived in the Central Valley for a few years. The pros: close to beaches, mountains, skiing, etc. Great weather. And that's it. Cons: super crowded everywhere, traffic, expensive, schools where I grew up (San Jose) have gotten so bad since I was in school. We got out of there seven years ago. We both had to work to survive and I wanted to be a SAHM. We moved to TN. I would never go back.
