  1. :iagree: we do Handwriting Without Tears, ETC 1, Horizons math K, and OPGTR. We read aloud a lot. She sits in on her older siblings science and history (helps with experiments, does history coloring pages, etc). I don't do a formal science or history with her though. The rest of our school time she will color, "read" books, do puzzles, etc.
  2. Hmmmm....I think it's kind of sad. Halloween was SO fun when I was in school! Not only did everyone wear costumes, but we had a parade at lunch and all of the parents came. When did everything become so PC? I didn't know anyone that didn't dress up or celebrate....is the scrutiny of Halloween relatively new? Or maybe I see it more now that we are in the Bible belt (I grew up in CA).
  3. We never tried Robeez, but I loved Pedipeds! I prefer the soft soled shoes when they are first learning to walk.
  4. Well, school was slow going this morning. Took the kids an hour and a half to do math. We had to hurry as they all had physicals at 1:30. So, we only finished grammar and math. However, just when I was feeling sorry for myself, the pest control guy came to the door. He didn't need anything but he wanted to let me know that our land is so beautiful and we are so blessed. Then I felt guilty for feeling sorry for myself! So, I took it as a sign to count my blessings:)
  5. Draw Something is fun. It's like Pictionary and you take turns like in WWF.
  6. We prefer Soy nut butter to the sunbutter. And I recently found chocolate flavored soy nut butter do the kids are loving that:). Dd is peanut/tree nut allergic. It's such a scary thing. We have our safe staples and anything not on that "list" results in a call to the manufacturer to be safe. It sucks. No nice way to say it. It just sucks. But, it eventually becomes second nature. You will get over the shock and anger and all of this label reading, etc. will become second nature.:grouphug:
  7. No advice, but I can commiserate! My 9 yo ds is the same way!! I've been supplementing with Beast Academy, using Flashcards daily, daily speed drills, etc. It's just not sticking do I'll be watching this thread for advice:)
  8. If I couldn't get my hands on an epi-pen (dd is tree nut/peanut allergic), I would need to buy a ton of that OTC Xanax!!! That would cause my anxiety to skyrocket! I hope you get something figured out soon!
  9. I just made a list under the notes app on my phone. I always have my phone with me, so if I'm at the bookstore or library I always have my list handy.
  10. As a side note, we just had our front loader repaired and I was told not to fill the soap up to the line in the cap. You only need about a teaspoon. Ours was so clogged with detergent because I was using too much.....and all I did was follow the instructions on the detergent!
  11. I was a child of the 80's. We watched as much TV as we wanted. It was just always on. It's always on at our house too. I guess I'm just used to it. The kids could give or take it. They probably watch less than I ever did. I'm not on the strictly limit TV bandwagon, obviously. I guess if my kids were obsessed and did nothing else, but it hasn't been an issue.
  12. Gotta vote for cat. I love other peoples dogs, but am not to fond if our own (or any dog we've ever had!). They are just too much work for me and ours is constantly ruining things:glare:
  13. Ha! We're in TN too.....stupid storm woke me up at 4:30:(.
  14. I'm in TN and use an umbrella school. Everything is done online (grades, attendant, reg) and it is super easy:).
  15. We use Enjoy Life also. I use Vermont Candy for special occasions as they are not cheap. For regular candy at the store, she eats Peppermint Patties, Jr. Mints, Rolo's, and regular sized Hershey bars.
  16. I must be an oblivious dork. I didn't know there were any states considered dorky! We moved to TN years ago and heard all sorts of crazy things about it....mostly your typical southern stereotypes. Not very many of them turned out to be accurate.
  17. Split pea soup is easy and cheap. Her's the recipe I use: 16 oz. Bag dried plot peas 1 diced potato 1 cup diced carrots 1 cup diced ham (I buy the precooked and cut bags) 6 cup veg. or chicken broth 2 cups water 1/2 tsp. Pepper 1 tsp. Salt Sprinkle of bay leaves Dump it all in and cook 4-6 hours on high or 6-8 on low
  18. No, the kids are too excited that dad is home and it would be like pulling teeth. I will either double up another day, use a vacation day for school, or just not worry about it. I figure they would have sick/missed days in PS, so if it's infrequent I don't stress about it.
  19. We have oak. I hate oak:(. I just don't like the look of it. We had maple at our old house and they were beautiful. Boohoo....I miss them. I painted the oak cabinets at our old house and am considering painting these. Definitely get some samples and look at them for a few days.
  20. Great news. The pic made me  I have an unhealthy fear of heights:)
  21. I will be praying for you. I hate that you have to deal with this. My heart aches:(.
  22. If your dd really likes gymnastics, I would do a regular class. The hs classes are fun, but you can't expect them to progress much.
  23. Roseanne, King of Queens, Everybody loves Raymond, George Lopez.....I'm pretty much a Nick at Nite and TV Land junkie.
