  1. We had french toast and a cheese and bacon quiche.
  2. I've never seen anything like that video, thanks for sharing.
  3. Not even a little bit. I know I have German, Scottish, Irish, and English heritage but those ancestors came over before my great great grandparents were children. It doesn't matter in my every day life and there are not any cultural things my family does to acknowledge that. I identify as an American and that identity is important to me.
  4. Well darn. I'm not a wage earner, so I'm not urgently needed to try in this vacancy. Rats! You should go for this amazing opportunity though, good jobs don't just normally fall into your lap via unsolicited e-mail that often these days.
  5. It does seem like that, but I wonder if they didn't prepare and there is violence if they'd be blamed for not preparing?
  6. They are not showing up for me either. On my iPad(..Safari?) or on my PC(Firefox).
  7. That's what I was thinking would be the case based on reading the descriptions, but I'm so torn. It's the only thing he really, really wants and it's not going to hurt us to get that. I hate to use Christmas to give him only things I think he should get....but still....$70 for a 5 year old on one toy. All well, it's only once a year.
  8. Can you tell me more about the car/rover? My son saw it(the version that also shoots discs) and would love it, it's the only thing he's asked for from Santa. We can afford it...how is the replay value?
  9. No. We are very near both sets of parents and in area we both like OK(it's not our dream area, but there's nothing we actively dislike about it either), have a good network of friends who we care about, and we already live in a town with only around 100,000 people. Anything smaller or further away from museums, movie theaters, grocery stores with a good selection, and so on would make me unhappy. It sounds like a good idea for people who want to do that though. Not a bad plan, just not for me. Also my father has recently been diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's at age 56. I want to stay near to him to help my parents out and also spend time with my dad while that's still an option.
  10. Ugh. I am in Colorado. I know many people who are here. None of them are planning their menu around pot or around people who will have the munchies at dinner.
  11. We sometimes turn up the thermostat at night, because our main floor is warmer than the upstairs where the bedrooms are. DD still doesn't pull covers over herself and is still a gymnast while she sleeps has the coldest room in the house, so we try to keep her warm. We also get a lot of sun during the day, so it feels warmer when the sun is up and out. I'm in Colorado. It's been cold lately, but we keep the heat around 68/69 and will sometimes turn it up to 71-72 at night or if the temp dips to far below 0.
  12. I can cook, but my go to lazy but I know it will be appreciated potluck appetizer is pineapple wrapped bacon. It's always appreciated and I'm always asked for the recipe which is...I mean it's canned pineapple wrapped in bacon.
  13. My DH took our 3 and 5 year old and they both loved it and had no problems sitting through the whole thing.
  14. I gave up somewhat recently after I saw an Animal Planet documentary that claimed to have proof of mermaids. 20 minutes into it I was on my iPad and discovered the whole thing was done as entertainment, but I missed the disclaimer. I don't mind monster hunting type shows when I'm in the mood(mostly to laugh and heckle), but I think it should be clearly presented as such and things shouldn't just be made up. DS loves River Monsters and Jeff Corwin so we haven't given up entirely, but I won't allow him to watch these mockumentaries. I did find that Jeff Corwin has another show based out of the Georgia Aquarium. It is on Hulu and, I think, was made for public TV. Very good quality and he toned it down from his Animal Planet show.
  15. Robot Turtles(ds said this one 3 times when I asked him what his favorite games were), Castle Logix, Guess Who, Rat a Tat Cat, Zingo, Harvest Time, Don't Break the Ice, Sum Swamp, Dino Math Tracks, and Go Fish.
  16. Agree, kind of. I help run a mother's group and we have found again and again that we need to build in time for chatting, particularly if we have a speaker come in. Most moms who have very young kid or who are new in town want to talk and get to know other people. The other activities(crafts, games, speakers) are secondary to just getting out of the house to talk to people. I just don't know how the library could do that and get them to be quiet during the story.
  17. I have no idea. I married into a family where the youngest child is now 26, still lives at home, has never graduated high school, does not hold a job, got disability for an issue he could treat but chooses not to, refuses any offers of counseling, therapy, or job training, stays up all night on the Internet or playing video games, will not help with work around the house, and complains about having to pay his cellphone bill. I like to think that I would not allow my own child to live with me in those circumstances, but the reality is I really do not know what I would do when faced with it. If this guy's parents pass on while he is still alive, he'll be our "problem" and I really have no interest in allowing him to continue to his current lifestyle in our home. On the other hand, I don't exactly wish for him to be forced out on the streets either. I have very young kids, so my plans involve teaching and modeling life skills and good decision making but that doesn't prevent mental illness, drug a use/abuse, or any number of things.
  18. In addition to Denver and the Springs, Northern Colorado also has many options for enrichment classes through the public schools. The ones I am aware of are a full day of classes one day a week. My DS attends an enrichment program through a PS. He will take the Iowa or something similar starting in 3rd grade through his enrichment program(though doing it through them is not mandatory). The enrichment option we go with has no say in our curriculum or anything like that, but they do provide a library that I can access to check out material for a year.
  19. I adore my library and library system. We have a pretty nice selection, free ILL, a generous hold system, friendly and helpful staff, free WiFi, and something like 50pages of printing per week for free.
  20. I got it right away, but I'm a pretty big fan. Great job on the costume!
  21. My 5 and 3 year old play happily in the basement playroom and I happily let them.
  22. My son is a heavy, heavy sleeper and a great one...12 hours straight through the night, plus 2 naps a day from 10 months on. He barely moves once he falls asleep. I used to check on him until he was a bit over a year old, nothing woke him once he slept. I found it a little unnerving at first, but I got used to it. My daughter is about to turn 3 and she's slept through the night a handful of times. Most nights, I consider 4 hours of sleep to be a good night. If she's asleep, either I am too or I'm going nowhere near her room in case I accidentally break whatever spell is keeping her asleep. Believe me, she's very good at letting me know when she's uncomfortable, inconvenienced, or unhappy in any way.
  23. Garrett's popcorn! As a kid, I was fascinated by the Museum of Science and Industry. A lot of fun. I know it's considered touristy, but we always go to Uno's or Due's. My grandparents started eating there in the 1950s. :)
  24. I've heard that before. I view it along the same lines as "every mom is a working mom". I don't care what others think of themselves really.....but I quietly think it's a silly claim to make.
