  1. Neither have I, but I love Breath of the Wild type where I can just wander a massive beautiful world. Occasionally do some stuff in the game if I'm feeling like I want a challenge but I spend way more time just wandering.
  2. Not an app or online, but my kids have a Rockot Twist and I (and they) really like it. LeapFrog RockIt Twist Handheld Learning Game System, Purple https://a.co/d/carN7kt It's all educational games. Letters, math, science, problem solving...
  3. I wrote one and it's still true because it wasn't about what I wanted to be but why I wanted to major in what I majored in, Legos were involved. I don't think I want to reread that, because I remembered thinking it was dumb when I wrote it.
  4. Just to be clear there are legal ways for someone who isn't a family member of someone in the US to immigrate here. You can seek citizenship through the H1B program, for one. Of course essentially it is easier the wealthier you are (or I suppose if you are skilled with an in demand and well paying skill),
  5. I don't know if this thread would help you. It helped me see possible progressions of writing through to high school. You may want to look at The Writing Revolution by Judith C. Hochman and Natalie Wexler. It talks about teaching writing through content rather than creative writing.
  6. I didn't stop in my tracks during his performance, but I was floored when I heard Alex O'Loughlin's (from Hawaii 5-0) real accent in an interview.
  7. Those high-end designer handbags are a drop in the bucket compared to how much it costs to put a roof over your head here, that's why. For all the money I dropped on the designer handbags and shoes would not have given me enough money for a down payment on a single family home. I could say for me it's because I was making 6-figures with sort of nowhere to spend it. Yes I could be renting a place of my own but how is that more of a waste of money than buying something nice. Looking back from where DH and I are at now just saving money couldn't have gotten us where we are today. There was a bit of luck and some good investments (on DH's part, because clearly I'm not good at finances).
  8. If they wanted it back they would have asked for it back when they issued you the refund. Amazon has done both for me either asked me to keep the item or told me to return it back to them. Usually they tell me to keep the item. If they want me to return they'll give me clear instructions on how to do so.
  9. Yes. For DD we'd turn on our reading motors (pretend to turn a switch on the side of our mouths) then we have to hold out the sound of the letters as we go through a CVC word. (Hint: start with consonants like /s/ and /m/ as opposed to /p/ and /t/ at the beginning of words.) DS liked this game where I say a word all stretched out and unblended and he had to guess the word. I'd say "/b/ /a/ /t/" and he would have to figure out what it is (bat). Start with words with 3 sounds and move on from there.
  10. I didn't have a lot of issues postpartum, so the "no help from the grandparents" wasn't so bad. After my first DH and some friends of mine got me a post partum doula, it was super helpful to have someone to explain to me how to take care of a baby. We bought most of the big things for the babies but the grandparents came through with extraneous stuff like toys and clothes which was unexpectedly helpful. My mom visited 2 weeks after the birth of DD. She had hoped to be there before to help me prepare the house and whatever. She's not good with babies nor does she like babies all that much, but she helped by doing household chores. I also had to chauffeur her around but that did give me something to do so it wasn't so bad. Pregnancies are really easy for me so I don't want to say "Well if I can do it then anyone can," because I don't believe that at all.
  11. Not necessarily a fixed amount but at the very least a CEO's compensation package should not exceed a certain ratio of the lowest paid employee's compensation package at a company. So if you want to give the CEO 7+figures fine but then you also have to up all your other employee's compensation accordingly.
  12. No you are not. No she does not sound like she is actually concerned either. If she were concerned her tone would be more surprised and she let you get off the phone faster so you would have an opportunity to call him, instead of spending precious time berating you.
  13. A friend of mine in college made up a whole story about how her ex hired hitmen to kill us. She gave proof that it was going to happen, enough that the school involved police and everything. She stuck to this story the whole time. Police investigated and determined she made it up. It was enough of a thing that the school moved us (the people who were in this "threat") from our original dorms. I spent the rest of that year on a boy floor of the dorms. The guys were nice and made one of the bathrooms into a girl's bathroom, we used it and their girl friends and girlfriends used it. (The way this dorm was set up there was a small bathroom to every 2-3 rooms.) She wasn't our friend anymore after that.
  14. Since I have WhatsApp now I really wouldn't know. When I was working I would just use the office phone and google the numbers I needed to dial for which ever location I was calling. We don't have a landline at our house and I'm not on an international plan on my phone because I have no need for it. Personally I suppose probably go over to my in-laws to make the phone call and ask them to send me a bill.
  15. Breakfast: Cereal or cake (specifically Swiss rolls) Lunch: I did school lunch. My school contracted out the food and mostly it was food from fast food places I ate a lot of taco bell bean and cheese burritos. Dinner: My mom didn't like to cook. We ate out a lot, Chinese food. My kids definitely ate healthier than what I did as a child (90's - 2000's). Although I think the 80's and 90's were the pinnacle of food abundance and unhealthiness.
  16. This is the reason a local account is nice. If you do it through a bank that is also located in your location of origin then they may be able to set up an account for you in that foreign country. You do one big transaction to put a bunch of money into the foreign account, then you can use the ATMs without worrying about the fees. Then when you get back you do one big transaction back. I mean people make money doing currency exchange, it's the same general principle. Some people travel so much that they know which exchange places have cheap rates or depending on when they update and what direction the currency is going then you could time it... Seriously though for the rest of us the CC doing it for us is good enough. You're getting a fair rate it's fine.
  17. Not France specific, I used to use this card when I traveled a lot. (https://creditcards.chase.com/rewards-credit-cards/sapphire/preferred?CELL=6PH5) It has no foreign transaction fee. I had no trouble using this card, though the times I spent significant time in a foreign country I would just look into using a local banking system. Some banks are international so that's a bonus if it's a bank that operates both in your origin country and the visiting country. Then the bank can even help you out to set up something that you could easily use in the visiting country. Whether having a CC is good is highly dependent on the location. Things like whether CC are widely accepted, how dangerous is it to carry large amounts of cash around, etc.
  18. Ooo I like how big these timeline figures are, especially with the real pictures. These are the sticker paper I use https://www.amazon.com/Sheets-Matte-Sticker-Inkjet-Printing/dp/B07T1HRYL5/ref=sr_1_5_pp?keywords=sticker+paper&qid=1704566901&sr=8-5. Nothing special just the cheapest I found at the time.
  19. She mentions having children memorize some history facts in The Well-Trained Mind book. So my guess is they are suggested pieces of facts students could memorize. I don't think SOTW has a timeline thing, it seems like they serve a similar purpose just what you want to do.
  20. For "review" I just do a timeline/book of centuries but instead of doing it immediately after our reading I do 4 chapters and then do the timeline for the 4 chapters. This one is specifically made for Story of the World. https://www.livingbooktimelines.com/product-page/complete-story-of-the-world-1-4-timeline-cards-and-poster-bundle (This looked like a lot for my children 5 and 7, so it's not the one I use.) I use this one https://www.curiositychronicles.org/product-page/ted-s-timeline-kit. Because I also use this curriculum along with Story of the World. However there is a lot of overlap between the two so I think you could use the same timeline and maybe add in and/or not use a few things from this kit. Basically I print out the timeline pictures on to sticker paper then we just go through and stick them into a timeline notebook. As we do that we talk about the stickers and "remember this...".
  21. I stopped 3/4 in to AAR level 3 it felt like we were just doing it for the sake of doing it. So then I just jumped into working on spelling and writing. I read https://www.rootedinlanguage.com/instructional-materials/trees-in-the-forest-growing-readers-amp-writers-through-deep-comprehension and also Know and Tell by Karen Glass. Then for reading I just take a passage out of a book DS is reading and then we explore some literary structure, sentence structure and/or phonics thing. Expectations are super low but basically start having DS reading to learn. Then spelling covers phonics and word study/vocabulary. If he hits a word in the reading he doesn't know then we cover how to break it down.
  22. I don't make my DS do review, basically what I tell him for spelling, reading, writing and math I need to see him do it quickly and accurately. Show me that and we can skip the lesson and not do specific review on it. There's some built-in review for all those topics, so you'll see when they need to review a topic.
  23. WHAT?! At some companies that's a fire-able offense.
  24. Honestly, it sounds like he was being a nice guy trying to get to know someone. Then while he found nothing wrong with you, maybe for whatever reason doesn't feel like it would be a forever thing. The thing is people who are looking for the forever thing are going to give people the rejection much quicker because they are looking for "the one". I assume these men have jobs that pay decent money, so a nice guy is likely going to take you on nice dates and pay for stuff. Dating rejection isn't going to come with clear explanation for why because from a rational standpoint most of the time the reasons are pretty dumb and not things the other person should change.
