Tell me NOT to go in there!
SonshineLearner replied to k2bdeutmeyer's topic in General Education Discussion Board
2.5 yr olds are teasers :) Course, if you wanted to stop nursing.... I nursed for basically...ever... so I'm no help there :) And believe me when I say I miss it :( -
If you're going separate.... a thought would be History with Veritas Press, which is really a fun cartoon but educational opportunity. If you had $$$ for BJU this should be reasonably priced. For Math, you could do what you're thinking... but Cybershala Math is something I'm going to do with my son when he's past me :) Also, just getting the kid's cooperation seems like it might be a good idea. I'm reading the "Boundaries" series.... for my teen right now and next will get it for my younger child :) I think that when there's a problem teaching children "school" subjects... there are probably problems with how they are interacting with the parents in other areas. (Just a thought :)) I've heard good things about TT if that's the type of math you want :) I know that it gives time to watch... then work the problem :) Your kids are so young!! Enjoy!! Believe me, you turn around and have teens! :)

puppy questions
SonshineLearner replied to Denisemomof4's topic in General Education Discussion Board
My advice with pups is to "tomato stake" them to you until they are with you for quite a while. Even for my adult puppy (about 1.5 when I got him) I kept him leashed to me for a minimum of 2 wks, but all the time when my cat was out, for 4 wks. Helped with nipping problems. :) :) -
Who jumps ship after SM 5a and/or b?
SonshineLearner replied to Beth in SW WA's topic in Accelerated Learner Board
Thanks, I always get the tutor spot wrong, but have it bookmarked:) Glad to hear what's working for you :) -
The kind of dishwasher detergent with phosphates in it ;) We had a single dad on my brother's Little League team whose son had the whitest uniform on the team. All the moms were impressed.... Spreading the detergent all over the mud spots was his secret. Oxiclean is what I throw in my wash for my son's Kempo ghee, but I'm not sure that will work forever ;)

Classical Conversations Bloggers
SonshineLearner replied to RainbowSprinkles's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
If you want a trifold board, purchase a box (that you are suppose to "fold" into a box) and just open it up into a "board" shape. Much cheaper and more sizes :) -
Classical Conversations Bloggers
SonshineLearner replied to RainbowSprinkles's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
It's only around $6. a month, if you're part of a group. You can join by the month, if it's the same as last year. As far as ideas, try googling for it... There are all kinds of ideas and blogs out there... :) -
I'm really worried about dh
SonshineLearner replied to Jean in Newcastle's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I am so sorry for you both :( I worry about my husband as he's chubs and loves to drink down the Pepsi. His mom is diabetic and I know it can run in families. I am super careful about sugar and such.... (except for tonight when I was given an entire BOX of cookies that are like Pecan Sandies... only with Almonds.... ugh... I think the box may be almost gone!!) Anyway, would a trip to a nutritionalist help?? :( -
Would you allow your history-hating child to...
SonshineLearner replied to AimeeM's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I would agree to move on, but depending on age would have her listen to the Famous Men of Series, up to where she should be. It's awesome that you can just download the series and burn to cd or put on an i-pod for her. :) I got mine of Librovox. My son will listen to it, as he loves history.... It would... for sure... be easier than reading it all. Then... just move on to where she wants to be. I really love SOTW, too.... and so we just listen to it all!! :) -
"Baby" names? Wanna help?
SonshineLearner replied to Pamela H in Texas's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Victoria E______ H**** "Victoria Elizabeth" A______ Jeremiah H**** "Andrew/ Andrews/ Aiden Jeremiah" C______ Anthony H**** Honestly, "Tony" doesn't conjure up "cute" to me, although one of my bestest friend's son's name is Tony :) He's a great guy.... but.... Caiden Anthony or... something that is just "pinch your cheeks" cute.... is what I would want for him :) (Anthony is something you want to keep?? Otherwise, I'd change the whole thing...) Caiden (if you don't use Aiden)... Caiden Samuel Hersh. (just a fill in name for your last :)) -
The girls had pictures done today!
SonshineLearner replied to Mommy22alyns's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Very cute!! :) -
Really off topic question, maybe, but since your son is a year behind mine.... I thought I'd ask.... Does that mean that you'll drop what you're doing for Afterschooling? Seriously, if I had kids your age, I'd do what you're doing now and then just add a book basket idea. Looks like you're pretty much schooling now :) My son could NEVER do a whole BJU dvd day. Perhaps they're great later, but I would think about 5th or 6th grade... not 2nd :) I love SOTW with a project each week. I'm doing this with our co-op with God's Design for Science (available for 1st thru 8th) and a handwriting program. This is a really full curriculum for my son.... along with listening to Jim Weiss cds, reading books that we have in our personal library (others might check out books ;)) and playing. :) Just a thought :)

What kind of heat do you use for your house? I think it'd be interesting to have your coop right up against your house with some air going out into the coop. If the coop isn't too large, it seems like it wouldn't be too expensive... The underground part sounds interesting, too. Seems like if the coop is insulated that it would be able to be toasty :) :)

Australian labradoodles?
SonshineLearner replied to Singingmom's topic in General Education Discussion Board
That'd be beautiful!!! Easier to keep clean looking, too! I looked at a Labradoodle, and could have done a "work off the fee" part, but since it was more $$$ and I decided I don't really necessarily agree with the "mixed breeds" being bred... as well as the fact that it was $1000 more than a purebread Wheaten... etc.... We didn't do it... :) (Of course... yours is for special work, so kudos to you) :D -
Some people like being in a box, some people don't :) These people like a box and they enjoy rehashing the same topic over and over. That's great for them; they'll make great soldiers for the government. You know, the people who do as they are told, because that's what everyone else does. I want my child to think for himself. To realize his individual potential; to make decisions based on morals and ethics he's logically thought through. We are Christ followers (Christians) and I want him to choose to make his decisions based on what God considers important. We're doing our best to emphasize that God wants him to use his brain to attain knowledge of all that God has created. (All subjects:)) When and if he ever goes into a "school" situation, I still want him to enjoy learning because it's important, not just to get a grade. Grades are based on what you learn in a particular environment; what I want is for him to expand his knowledge based on his individual ability. :)

How fun!! Congrats :) 7 lbs...... wow.... what a treat to only have a 7 lb baby! :) It's amazing how "off" their predictions can be! :) Glad everything is good! :)

Australian labradoodles?
SonshineLearner replied to Singingmom's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I had a friend who had one; it was a lovely apricot colored one.... and I would have scooped her up in a heartbeat!! :) -
If you are or were going to have your children memorize a timeline, how would you (do you) pick out which events are important enough to be memorized. We are putting together a timeline, and can choose between 105 and 210 events to memorize. We'd like it to be the same one each year, and Science and more could be intertwined. I'm trying to figure out how our cards and sentence "facts" could be memorized. Interested in how you are doing it... what you can help think of.... I'm also thinking of assigning colors to help remember the facts (Science= Green) and dates. Thoughts? :bigear:

I've spent a few hundred on her so far.... I've been taking her in since November of LAST year ;( We've gone down the list... 4 times of $50 antibiotics.... (plus visits) then all the other visits, x-rays, blood test which said Asthma was unlikely... 2 anti-viral medicines... and on... and on... Lysine.... (and I feed her a great quality no grain food) Basically, I'm just always thinking "how much more am I willing to spend" I really just don't have hundreds a year for our cat... but we do love her :) I saw an "attack" that she was having.... Today I saw an asthma attack online and just immediately realized that I had been right..... My cat had been having an attack. She's been on Prednisone for 2 weeks.... She's not sneezing from deeper down, it seems, and has sneezed up dryed snot :( I actually saw her sneeze it up, so it's not like it was dry just because she had sneezed before :(

overnight cloth diaper for toddler?
SonshineLearner replied to ktgrok's topic in General Education Discussion Board
If natural can't touch her, I might try three or so layers of wool (lanolized... felted??) between the cover and the diaper.... I would just felt Pendelton wool shirts, cut strips... and layer a few.... Any diapers should be "diaper service quality" if prefolds....and gosh... microsuede is pretty absorbant ;) If disposable, you have to decide what you hate more.... Seventh Generation is unbleached... there's a "natural" on at Toys R US now.... which is another choice... perhaps you could use an insert from the G-Diapers?? I do hate anything with that silica stuff... since it's toxic... -
Would this bother you?

This is when you fill up your glass with more wine!!!! (and maybe what I've been missing.... wine....)
