Little Gym--I must be crazy...
SonshineLearner replied to lollie010's topic in General Education Discussion Board
First, I'd ask if there are any discounts.. coupons... etc.... (ask around, not necessarily AT the place) Second, I'm not sure it's a horrible price... it's $16 a lesson... I've purchased insurance and such... and I can tell you that they aren't making all of that.... :-) (Like someone else said.... martial arts are good, too...) -

I'm SO curious how much it is to do a class like this... :-) -
Teachers Encourage Afterschooling
SonshineLearner replied to PenKase's topic in Parents' Forum Afterschooling Board
Wouldn't it be fun to tell them that you're too busy teaching your children Latin to teach math tricks? And, that you won't teach algorithms... if the teacher won't... (without telling you) and then you can see if the teacher even knows WHEN they are teaching algorithms?? Maybe you should show Singapore to the teachers... :-) :-) -
Standardized tests: How concerned should I be?

My mom said that if they don't do well in school... that they should have to send them home :-) -
Words you'd love to see revived?
SonshineLearner replied to mirth's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Ok, for words that I wish would come back... I wish that when My children heard "gay" that it wouldn't be associated with a person's sexuality.... and would rather be innocent happiness. I can hardly make it through the poems.... and they were here before the word meant.... anything but happy. Wish.... I also like "Shall" but can't seem to use it. -

Actually "vulgar" is a funny one. My friends younger sons was trying to use it with the older meaning of "common". He said something about families using their furniture in the day as couches and such, and then at night scooting is towards the walls to use for "vulgar" uses. (He meant common, or...."sleeping" for real...) Problem was that he used it in co-op class with parents around... I hear all the moms tried not to last. (Disclaimer... this story was told to me a while ago.. it's close... and the word... Vulgar.... is interesting:-) -
What word sends you over the edge?

car·a·mel [kar-uh-muhl, -mel, kahr-muhl] Show IPA –noun 1. a liquid made by cooking sugar until it changes color, used for coloring and flavoring food. 2. a kind of chewy candy, commonly in small blocks, made from sugar, butter, milk, etc. 3. a yellowish brown or tan color. I looked this up when my dad use to say "Carmel".... :-) Either is proper :D -

I don't know... tell him that every question he gets right, you'll give him a quarter towards a reward?? I plan to enter my rising 7 year old.. as a first grader this coming year... to give myself an extra year. (Unless I can think of some reason not to....) -
Glass dining extension on kitchen?
SonshineLearner replied to Laura Corin's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Kinda a "Sun" or "Florida" room... that's what it looks like to me. I expect us to knock out one of our walls, have a library of sorts... with this out the side... in about 5-10 years. I can't wait. My parents use to have one... You need a little ceiling fan... and if it gets chilly... something to warm it... and WOW what a lovely spot to have coffee and such... Carrie:-) -
pregnancy weight gain
SonshineLearner replied to Mrs Mungo's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I'm 5' 4" and I weighed 155.. lost 7 lbs and then gained back up to 163. I was a little less with my second... and gained up to about 168 with my second. When both of my children were about 1 year old... I weighed just under 130.... My friend called it the "pregnancy diet". I guess I should have just kept having babies!! Carrie:-) -
What age to give "adult" multi vitamins??
SonshineLearner replied to sheryl's topic in General Education Discussion Board
There are teen vitamins that you can give... I think Rainbow something are what I purchased through the co-op.. :-) ( I think "whole" food vitamins are the best:-) -

I have to say that I really like the set up of Classical Conversations Memory Work.... You like parts and don't others... but it gives you a template. For instance, if you want to do another English grammar.... fine.. Just insert it where CC has theirs.... Or, if you don't want to do Greek and Roman Gods... fine.... sub another sentence.... BUT, it gives you a framework to work with... I have Living Memory, too... and it would be great to use it, with CC in my opinion... And, how you would do it... is either one subject a day for each day of the week... (English today, Science tomorrow, History the next...) Or, do the whole thing on Mondays... and work during the week on review.... And... Dad gets to do a Science Experiment and Art on Saturdays:-) :-)

What word sends you over the edge?
SonshineLearner replied to PollyOR's topic in General Education Discussion Board
How bout when grown men say they're going "potty"?? UGH! I say y'all occasionally... because.... I grew up in Texas. I can keep from saying it... but it is something that my living there during childhood gives me the right, right?? :-) I "axed" a question always sounds crazy to me. Also, double negatives... "I" when it should be "me" and "me" when it should be "I". I sometimes speak as I did growing up... saying "Is it they?" and such.... but I usually speak incorrectly so as to not explain myself. (or get weird stares) :-) -
Pull-ups for travel?
SonshineLearner replied to Aubrey's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Pull-ups!! Don't make it difficult or worry for your ILs... You do want them to have "sweet thought" about the trip. If you have time to order cloth pull ups and want to... that could be an answer... http://getantsy.com/ But, either way.... I'd do something. Maybe "forget" to get pull-ups back from ILs when they come back? No more pullups... Carrie:-) -
Our son is 6.5 and still in a Britax. I like the Radian... and would want to get one if i could... We'll probably keep him in it about another year.... and then I'm not sure. My girls made it to about 8 or so.... Of course, the PS told my daughter when she was 7?? that she was big enough to go without a booster.... (and of course without a carseat) Gotta love the PS... Carrie:-)

Tell me about cloth diapers
SonshineLearner replied to Dawn in OH's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I suggest purchasing bags for the used diapers.... I accidentally threw away a couple of my favorite diapers because of grocery bags... The wet bags for camping are less expensive... :-) -
Tell me about cloth diapers
SonshineLearner replied to Dawn in OH's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Grandma might be the one who thinks you're the smartest!! And, I had a few "emergency" sets of diapers... Just prefolds and some decent pull on kinda like plastic pants.... but not that material... (Like dappis...) They were cheap.. :-)
