  1. Thanks everyone! I am so happy to not have to come up with a new plan.
  2. How much is coloring/drawing a part of this level? We are in Essentials B right now and I would say that is the only downside for her. She just doesn't enjoy coloring. I do have her just circle stuff instead when that is possible. If there is a lot of coloring in 1A we may consider another math program, but otherwise we are happy with Singapore. I am not committed to US or Standards if that makes any difference. Thanks!
  3. Um.... I'm fairly certain those links were not posted by the creators of those sites. You seem rather invested in defending Flylady.
  4. - finish OPGTR - FLL - HWT - books from Sonlight, AO etc.... - Singapore 1A - Sonlight Science K That is the plan for now at least!
  5. One of the recent times my DD (who would start public K next fall) asked about going to school away from our house she said that "the school you do with me is just a game." Yeah, that helps my confidence a TON. (my mom is a ps teacher also)
  6. Yes! I am fairly certain what we will do for language arts and math - looking at science options now.
  7. We just started Essentials B with my DD who also just turned 5. The concepts are pretty easy for her, but she is enjoying it so we will continue for now. It is also good practice for her writing numbers, which is a bit of a struggle for her.
  8. White vinegar. Dh thought the whiteboard in his classroom needed to be replaced one year - the buildup was so bad it was unusable. It took me about two minutes with some vinegar to get it white again.
  9. I would not use it as it is not worth the risk. Cosco Scenera is an affordable convertible seat (around $50) that fits most newborns.
  10. I remember in college calling to inquire about a nannying job that was in the newspaper. It turned out that the job included "homeschooling" the 4 children. For $8 an hour!
  11. I don't get the "leaving the decision to Dh" train of thought either. If we were considering surgery (elective at that!) on our daughter's reproductive organs I doubt my Dh would just go with whatever I wanted. Both parents should be informed and involved in health decisions.
  12. My 2 year old is fighting naps, but still needs them desperately. (his night sleep is rarely good when he skips his nap) I was wondering if anyone had any specific recommendations for a CD he might lay still and listen to. Music or stories. CD or itunes download. I will try anything right now!
  13. I think it works best with muffins and quick breads though it might work for cake also. I would start with subbing 1/4 to 1/3 of the butter. Though to be honest if it was a special occasion chocolate cake I would probably leave the recipe alone. :-)
  14. Our son and any future sons will remain intact. There is no need to "fix" something that isn't broken. Personally, I cannot imagine inflicting unnecessary pain and trauma on a newborn.
  15. I am curious to read the replies to this as I have also felt kind of underwhelmed with HWOT with my dd.
  16. Carol's Affordable Curriculum - they have several age ranges, in faith-based or secular versions.
  17. We like the Pioneer Woman recipe, though I do change a few things. (less salt, more garlic, no boil noodles)
  18. I was also going to suggest the R+S workbooks, though I would skip books A and B if she is complaining about easy stuff. Book C is soooooo nice for introducing math concepts. We just loved it.
  19. Yum! I used to make a very similar recipe that also had frozen broccoli added - I should go look that up.....
  20. I am kind of indifferent on Sunday School lessons for children under 3. Mainly they just need to be well cared for and if there is time/resources to do any "teaching" then that is fine. More than anything I think you are too stretched with too little help. At the least, the babies (any non-walkers) should be in a separate room. I would also look into recruiting teens to help on a rotational basis. Can anyone help you with the room set up? *I just noticed that you said you are there once a month, which might change things.
  21. I'm curious about Pianimals too. I would love do start DD at home for a year or two before doing private lessons.
  22. Thanks Cindie! (and for the warning too LOL)
