Looking for letter of the week ideas!
kesmom replied to wy_kid_wrangler04's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I love! the Confessions of a Homeschooler blog that has already been mentioned a few times. I like that many of her printables are b+w as we don't use a color printer. She also just did a post with several math printables. Another tool that I find useful is the HWT wooden letter building pieces. They are fun and also safe for toddler siblings. :) -
Hotsling pouch ring sling Ergo I have also borrowed a Moby and a mei tie from friends. I am considering a Baby K'Tan for the new baby.

If you had a toddler who can't tollerate juice
kesmom replied to athena1277's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I get wanting to have a "fun" choice for him when juice boxes are served. Celestial Seasonings wild berry zinger tea is pretty sweet on it's own when iced. -
Stickers are also great for fine motor practice.

Where you ever against homeschooling?
kesmom replied to mom2agang's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I was never against it, even as an elementary ed major in college. I had met some really wonderful homeschooling families during that time. -
I don't fish from knowingly polluted water.

How can I manage two dc with teacher-intensive curricula?
kesmom replied to HappyGrace's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Similar to what the last poster said, I was going to suggest a workbox type set-up of "light" activities when they are not working directly with you. -
If you have used HWT, do you find it a problem when your children come across different handwriting instructions in other materials? Either they indicate different starting points for the letters, or the shape of the letter to be traced looks noticeably different from the HWT font. I've noticed this in pretty much all other workbooks etc.. (R+S, Kumon, dollar store books, most online printables) Has it made any difference to your children? I guess there are similar issues that come up with Italics, Cursive First etc... I am terribly Type A about stuff like this :D so maybe I just need to :chillpill:

Great thread! I like the looks of the Beehive Reader and also the I am Sam series.

We like Kumon and School Zone workbooks. Also check Dollar Tree - though you may have to really search through their stacks as they are all mixed together. Dd's favorites from there are the Winnie the Pooh series. They introduce basic skills. A lot of people really like the R+S preschool books, but I am kind of "eh" on them.

Check out the blogs (you will have to google) Chasing Cheerios and No Time for Flashcards - they have a lot of great stuff. Look in the archives for younger activies as I think both bloggers have 3/4 yr olds now.

What pre-preschool curriculum to buy dd?
kesmom replied to MomtoCandJ's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Oh yes, definitely a Magnadoodle! I can't imagine how much paper that has saved us. Another thing you might consider is the Handwriting Without Tears wooden letter pieces. -
What pre-preschool curriculum to buy dd?
kesmom replied to MomtoCandJ's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
- My Father's World Toddler package (no religion taught) - Slow and Steady Get Me Ready - a quality set of wooden blocks - membership(s) to local attractions (botanical gardens, zoo, children's museum, aquarium etc... - I think it is nice to belong to one that is indoors and one that is outdoors) -
Thank you everyone for your replies. :D

If you aren't using the magnetic letter tiles sold by Peace Hill Press, what are you using? (I wish they sold them separately from the book!) I have a set of M+D alphabet magnets, but I am guessing I would need another set or two? Just wondering about more affordable options. Thanks! :)

They have the cloth-like material now. I will say that my very sensitive skinned child was irritated by Luvs, but I suspect that is because their fragrance is so much stronger than other diapers.

World's Best Play Dough Recipe inside......
kesmom replied to Mommy7's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
How is the texture? Most homemade doughs leave a gritty feeling on my hands that drives me crazy. (I know it's for the kids haha, but they usually want me to help) -
Need easy, kid friendly breakfast ideas!
kesmom replied to Twinmom's topic in General Education Discussion Board
http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ellie-krieger/breakfast-cookies-recipe/index.html My mom made these breakfast cookies the last time she visited and they were quite good! I read the reviews and it sounds like it is a flexible recipe too. -
How Was Your First Day or Week of School????????
kesmom replied to LUV2EDU's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
We had a good time! Our very relaxed first day consisted of.... - I read a R+S Bible story while DD colored in the corresponding page - we used cuisenaire rods for the first time with a few pages of the alphabet book - DD helped me make granola bars! We also met some HS friends at a park this morning.
