  1. I saw that thread. My guess is that it's the next lower grade from a "D." I never use letter grades, so I have no idea. I prefer % or just the number right out of the total.
  2. If you know you'll be doing this for years and your goal is to reach intermediate level, then indulge in the most expensive bow you can afford. It can be re-haired when/if needed. A good bow will make the violin sound better, make it easier to do more advanced techniques, and it's the cheapest of the 2 (between the violin and bow) so you can put in a few hundred $ and really improve your playing experience. So, in terms of dollars, get a $200 - 300 bow. If you have more to spend, $500 is the next jump up in price usually.
  3. How old is this person? I think they just lost the good will of the lunch-maker and will have to do the job them self.
  4. For you or the dc? For you - yes! For the dc - nope. Save those for mom.
  5. There are some really talented R&B artists from that time era that I completely missed growing up and have recently discovered. Luther Vandross and Stevie Wonder in particular. What do you mean by "fun?" If it's pop, then Bay City Rollers with "Saturday Night" is a good one.
  6. I don't know the reason, but I find it REALLY annoying! I want women's shorts and athletic pants with pockets for my tennis balls, and they are almost impossible to find. Men's and youth's don't fit right.
  7. Happy 1st Day of Spring!! I'm officially doing spring skiing now, which means getting on the snow before it melts too much and gets soft and slow. I went for a really nice ski with ds 11 and 13. We did about 8 km with lots of hill work. We only had 2 pairs of skate skis to share around between the 3 of us, so the unlucky person had to slug along with the skis with fish scales/built-in-brakes.
  8. Hot yoga is mostly stretching rather than moving around, though, so it does make sense to get the muscles nice and warm before and during that kind of activity. More intense exercising in the heat is tougher than in the cool, I find. I can run way faster and easier in the fall and spring than in the summer. And humidity makes things even more uncomfortable. Plus there is only so much clothing one can shed in the heat. ;) In the cold you can just add on layers (and then take them off again when you work up a sweat!)
  9. Soror - I think you should pace yourself a little more with the painting. You are risking more than just "sleeping like a baby." You could do some major damage to your body with 8 hours of repetitive motions like that. But maybe you are 20 years old and will bounce back just fine. I have to limit my painting to about 2 - 3 hours or my shoulders won't move anymore. I used to do quite a bit of painting with our local community theatre.
  10. Are there any Early Childhood Educators at this daycare? She could ask to borrow one of their books for age-appropriate crafts and activities. Some of those craft supplies are not age-appropriate. If an object is smaller in diameter than a toilet paper roll, it's not safe for children under 3 years of age. They are choking hazards. No googly eyes, foam pieces, cotton balls, pom poms, pipe cleaners. These are all choking hazards for 1 and 2 year olds.
  11. If it's not going to hurt her physically or the people around her, which it isn't, then say nothing. I tell my friends to wear bicycle helmets when I see them riding without them. They don't like me mentioning it, but I know that it could save their noggin if they listened.
  12. Hey, Scout. Are you watching any Indian Wells action during your recovery? I got to watch the men's final. So great to see Federer playing so well. This week's plan is to try to squeeze in a few more days cross-country skiing before the snow disappears completely. I am so hooked on being outdoors in the woods that I need to do it everyday. :001_smile: I will also be playing tennis twice this week. It seems to be my upper limit during the indoor season, as it's just too pricey to pay court fees more than that. I can't wait for the outdoor season so I'll be able to play everyday (weather permitting). That's the only wonderful thing about indoor tennis - the "weather" is always perfect.
  13. What are the perfect things? I'd list those, and go looking for it elsewhere. You're so right about never knowing how things will go. I'd assume that the worst is going to happen, and then where are you? You can't go into a multi-thousand dollar property assuming that only the best will ever happen.
  14. I'd keep looking for a better house, land and situation. If it is a buyer's market then wait and find something perfect for what you actually dream for.
  15. We have a Wave Master for kicking and punching; a pull-up bar (which I never use, but my boys like); a yoga mat; some light hand-weights. The boys play basketball on the pad in front of the house. Everything else is cycling, running, skiing, tennis courts (though I'd LOVE my own court in the backyard). ETA: Oops, I missed the part about strength training equipment. I don't have anything except my body for that.
  16. I had a singles tennis game with my friend this morning. She is so consistent and strong. I played physically really well, and mentally totally bombed. My fitness has never been better, but my consistency and focus could use some improvement. :o It was really fun, though. I'm taking ds 13 for another ski today. We're going to do the monster-killer biathlon loop. I hope I return alive! ;)
  17. It sounds like you could really use an advocate on your side. Can you find a lawyer to be the contact person on your behalf? If they aren't going to listen to you or communicate directly with you, then you can do the same. I'd want to protect myself and my wards in this situation.
  18. I ignored the coach back in my day. If he seriously wanted me to give up my family ski holidays to swim on the high school team, he could forget it. This is not the pros, folks. We're all just having fun here, right? ;) The number of times I can ski with my family in the Rocky Mountains are limited and should be cherished.
  19. I looked on youtube, and it seems to have been released in the US on Masterpiece Theatre.
  20. I still don't get it. Is it a time thing, injury thing? Does the coach own the athlete? Why couldn't someone go recreational ice skating with their family? Makes no sense to me.
  21. I don't understand what this means. Is there a fear she will fall and get injured? Cross-country skiing Snowshoeing Hiking Swimming Indoor rock climbing Trampoline When the snow melts: Cycling Hiking Canoeing/kayaking Swimming outdoors
  22. To be honest, I wouldn't stress about it too much. She's doing well academically, holding down a job and isn't isolating herself in a basement or anything. I love hanging out with my sister. My dh's siblings hang out together a lot. It's not a bad thing that your daughters have such a good relationship.
  23. Depending on your older dd's class sizes, the fact that she's not in residence/dorm, and her personality being a little more reserved, it's probably quite challenging to find friends. Maybe you could help her find some activities or opportunities to meet with her peers in small-group settings. There are masses of activities on most campuses, she just needs to pick something and get out there and try a few things. It will take time, but it's good to learn how to do, even if the people she meets don't turn out to be life-long friends.
  24. How much time/distance per day are you typically planning on walking in this cute shoes? Do you want your body to feel good after all the walking, or be in pain? If you walk a lot and don't want pain, walk in the Adidas.
  25. Luckily, there are no mosquitos, ticks or biting/stinging critters in the winter. They don't like the cold much. ;)
