  1. I was enjoying Laurence Welk with my parents in my youth. Tommy the dancer was my favourite, and Rose Milk cream kept one singer's face really smooth. 😄
  2. Not an object up the nose or in the ear, but my I've got the parenting badge on bringing in 2 children for eating my iron pills. The 3 year old couldn't open the "child proof" bottle, so he gave it to the 1 year old to do. Success! Years later I finally found out how 1 year old did it. Apparently he threw the bottle on the ground and it opened. Dh and I are going to tell this great tip to our own aging parents so they can get into their medications in case of emergency.
  3. Watching the video again (and again), I'm so glad the baby could make such a fantastic entrance and exit. It seemed to be more dangerous to the big sister during the exit, though.
  4. Priceless! Hey, are those baby bouncy/wheely things still legal in the US? He'd be in trouble in Canada.
  5. Yes, my dc are fascinated by the dancing bacon, too. I try to scroll up so I don't just sit there looking at it and smiling. ;)
  6. I'm not supposed to get into politics, but maybe taxes don't count. Justin is taxing all the rich 1% of Canadians. That eliminate any rich Canadians that we might of had. ;)
  7. I'm sorry about the issues you are facing in the US. Please stop walking across the boarder into Canada, though. It's no better here, AT ALL. Seriously. Love you all, but we can't afford refugees from the US.
  8. I HATE daylight savings. Hate everything about it. Why are we forced to do this year after year? :cursing:
  9. Ladies, I have to thank you all for inspiring me to stay active, but you know what's even more inspiring to work hard? 2 pro tennis players playing a match on the court beside you. I'm not sure if either of them noticed this old lady (me) stepping up the pace, hitting my balls harder and chasing balls like a crazy woman, but I did. I haven't played this well or this hard in a long time. My poor dh didn't know what hit him when his wife (me, again) transformed into a wild cat on the court. Sadly, I lost the set in a tie-breaker, but I had so much fun! Talk about feeling like a 20 year old. I hope I'm not too sore after this.
  10. There's a place close to me that holds Aerial yoga classes. I'm quite curious to try it out. Sounds like a lot of fun.
  11. That's the best, craziest pot hole story I've heard so far. :hurray:
  12. I was a competitive swimmer back in the era when we'd billet with families from hosting swim teams. I'm glad that era is over, frankly. Even though nothing bad happened to me, it just added more stress and distractions to the purpose of being there, to swim well. My ds 13 is now doing FTX overnight camps with cadets, and I'm all for it. The purpose of these sleep-away camps is to learn how to camp and sleep in different conditions. The additional activities are all related to camping. I like keeping things focused.
  13. Oh dear! Mosquitos AND pot holes year-round? Florida must not advertise this much, or the snow birds were stay up north more. ;) And you have alligators and scary bugs, too. It makes snow seem a little easier to take.
  14. Yes, all this stuff, plus lack of sleep, food issues, friend issues, etc., etc. just took away from the horses for me. I love camping, and I love horses, I don't need to do them all together, in fact it's way better if they're not mashed together.
  15. I got in a nice little run before lunch. My body was more prepared for constant moving, which was nice. I contemplated some fartlek (speed variation) but decided to take it nice and easy. I'll try it on my bike instead.
  16. Oh yes, the delight of snow melted only to discover the pot holes ready to swallow any and all who dare to get too close. I've heard of cars getting damaged from slamming into pot holes. Our municipal workers are patching up some of the pot holes in our area, but as soon as a big truck runs over the patch it's no better than before. Anyone have a municipality that does a good job dealing with this? Or do you have more horror stories to share?
  17. So sorry for your loss. Maybe you can take a few photos of things you think are extra special, and recycle the rest? Bring in outside help from people who aren't emotionally attached to the people, as they can get rid of things so much faster and easier.
  18. :iagree: It really should be MIIT, IMO, unless you are a trained athlete (and young, but that might be considered ageism). ;) Hey, if the older pro hockey, tennis, and football players, who get paid the big bucks, choose to do HIIT and face the injuries, let them. How about we agree to do MIIT and we can call it HIIT for fun?
  19. That's great about your dh! Hope he's able to stay active for another couple decades. I find this so inspiring, and it's one of the reasons why I've been investing more time on physical activities I can do safely and well in the upcoming decades. Some things, like martial arts, are just too much strain on my body, whereas tennis and cross-country skiing are wonderful. As far as interval training in other activities, again it depends on one's individual bodies. My shoulders are "shot" from competitive swimming in my youth, so I'd not do well with any swimming sprints unless is was just kick. I guess the best advice is to listen to your own body, and don't make too many sudden demands on it without preparation.
  20. I did do some reading on telemeres, but I didn't see where HIIT was particularly involved. If anyone has references for this, I'd be curious to read it. I'm all about exercise of all kinds. Totally supportive, but I've also sustained enough sprains, strains, and hosts of other injuries over my lifetime, and especially between the ages of 35 and 50 to know that our bodies do not react the same way they did at ages 15 - 25. We have to be more gentle, but we can certainly do a whole lot once we've prepared our bodies for it.
  21. What are telemeres? I don't recall studying about these in any of my anatomy or physiology courses. What were you reading? Was it science based or marketing/business based? Be careful with high intensity interval training at our "delicate" ages, because you can easily injure tendons, muscles, joints, etc. that aren't used to it or properly warmed-up. Sprinting is very high impact on ankles and knees especially and can be a wonderful work-out, but it can also be the cause of injury. I wouldn't want you to miss out on all the benefits of telmeres because you snapped your achilles tendon.
  22. As well as the heat/cold extremes, the padding in those booster seats isn't wonderful and it's not going to last forever, and the poor children sitting in them for hours will be suffering (I sure would be).
  23. What experiences in particular do you want your dc to have from a sleep-away camp; the sleeping away part, the archery, the riding, or ALL of it? Why not just do a day camp, and go overnight camping as a family. Then you have a lot more control over things. Or a family camp might be a great option. Personally, I think the sleeping away part is adding so many additional factors into the equation of the camp's specific activities (i.e., riding, archery), plus hours of extra time to fill, that it takes away from those things the kids go to the camp for in the first place.
  24. The rain has stopped, the ice has melted, and the sun is shining. It inspired me to get outdoors and run. Man, running is harder on the body than skiing. There is no fun gliding down the hill parts. You have to keep your legs going the entire time.
  25. I'd either: A. lower weight and more reps OR B. higher weight and fewer reps Lower weight and more reps is more toward the aerobic endurance end of the range, while higher weight and few reps is toward the muscle building range. You can alternate days, where you do A one day and B a different day. I wouldn't mix weights within a set of reps.
