  1. No problem graphing by hand, but this would simply be for time savings on the SAT.
  2. Well I don't think it's a good idea. With the political nature of many publications the salon owner would be at risk of ticking off a portion of their customer base - not worth the risk. Better to stick to haircut magazines and People-type idiot celebrity mags.
  3. We use scientific calculators starting in Alg 1 - however I am starting to wonder about the effectiveness of a graphing calculator for the SAT/ACT. On one hand I would welcome the time savings of graphing parabolas... but I hate to spend the time learning how to operate a new calculator. Whatever the case I would want dd to be "fluent" with the new calculator before test time.
  4. (((Margaret))), praying for your husband and your whole family. :grouphug:
  5. So true! I would rather apply to schools where they have a chance of affording it if the scholarships are awarded.
  6. My kids have not taken courses here but I have always been drawn to The Harvey Center which is run by Beth in Mint Hill at this forum. We have never quite been able to make it fit but hoping to soon.
  7. I love the Bee Gees! They were at the height of popularity when I was in high school. This is my favorite video - - with footage of Barry and Robin as kids.
  8. Yes, they work, if you use them correctly. One time we went to the pediatrician and it took 5 visits to remove a wart.
  9. I have to give credit to Lee Binz for dragging me through my first experience with a homeschool high school graduate. She received a full tuition scholarship at the one and only school she wanted to attend, and I am ever thankful for that, and hope for similar success with our next two kids.
  10. You might want to see what Online G3 offers. My dd took some very interesting history through movies classes with G3 and I enjoyed watching the movies with her.
  11. Amen. In the winter at its worst it gets dark at 3:30. I start counting the days until DST and wish we had it all year long.
  12. I like to wrap a pickle in a slice of ham and eat it with a bit of spicy mustard.
  13. Something is very wrong - how did they get your number? I would be asking the insurance company how the scammers got the number.
  14. Oh wow, we had something like this a long time ago. If the kids use it, KEEP IT. Fix it yourself and do a check for hornets every week - get the spray that lets you blast it from a safe distance. A playset like this is one of the things the kids will remember fondly for years.
  15. Thanks so much for the ideas. We ski and do a lot of outside work so we're not starting from "couch potato" status. The weather has been so rotten this winter, and even taking a walk is difficult due to the ice.
  16. Thanks wintermom. The gym is not possible, though - too far to drive.
  17. My family is thinking of starting some type of strength training program with free weights. Most of the winter we are cooped up with a lot of snow and ice, so doing something indoors would be great. Where do we start?
  18. Research the community and visit if you can. Do they have a church you would attend if that's a concern? What grocery stores are available? What are schools like? Even if you homeschool the area schools influence a community. As far as the cold...as long as you have a house with a garage and you don't have a steep driveway you'll be fine. Get snow pants for everyone. I wear mine almost every time I go out and am always warm. Same goes for Bogs or Muck boots-- we like the short kind that are easy to slip on and off. Before I discovered snow pants and muck boots I hated the cold. Now it's fine! You will probably be more concerned with being "rural" than the weather. Subscribe electronically to the newspaper if you can and read up on local news.
  19. Lanny, I am sorry to hear this. I can tell you are a kind person and wish you the best of health always.
  20. I am trying to remember what organization sponsored this. We talked about it a long time ago on these boards. It was a week-long summer session for high school kids that was held in a large city once per summer. It was in Salt Lake City one time. They chose a different city each year. Does this ring any bells?
