  1. we just moved into a new neighborhood...for the first time ever acutally..and we just met our neighbors when they were out. BUT our neighbors are out often too...so I don't know what the "protocol" should be.
  2. I didn't read the other answers to your question..not am I acutally going to try to answer that question. I think EVERY home schooler has those fears/questions. But I would say to you that you are going to strive to give your child more than any public teacher ever would care to give. You are going to have one on one time and you know your child better than anyone else. Christ loves your children more than you ever could...he will fill in the gaps for you. Keep him first and all else will come into line.
  3. congratulations. We never have everything we need to start on time. Just once I'd love to be able to have EVERYTHING on ready for day one!
  4. You might want to check out the books called Vocabulary Cartoons...lots of fun, easy, and oral. Have worked great for us. Your local library might have them.
  5. I was wondering if any of you could give me a list of great books you've had your 10th grader read. Thanks so mu h:)
  6. My daughter is going into 4th grade and LOVES little house on the prarie. I was wondering what study you would recommend to go through these books with her? Thanks in advace for your help!:001_smile:
  7. no but that sounds like a lot of fun. If you do it..take lots of pics and post it online!
  8. I'm not sure which version is the latest but I can tell you that the revision shouldn't affect the use..but it will affect the resale. I've used the older versions and even the teachers book to the new version almost matched up. It was just like a few problems here and there were changed. That's what we found anyway.
  9. I'm so jealous...I keep saying I'm going to start..but never get there
  10. we used lltl...and my son got bored with it REALLY fast. Of course every child is different
  11. We never did that much time for that age. My daughter didn't struggle with math though. We would do 1-3 sheets per day depending on how easy/hard the lesson seemed to be to her.
  12. I would suggest just doing some research on the internet. there is sooo much free information and free lapbooks. Or check your library and just see which book you like best before ordering
  13. Most of you also may know of "the Jesus Storybook Bible" but if not, it is great. What makes it different from most is the fact that EVERY story points to JESUS. Awesome.
  14. We LOVE the child craft. Not exactly "encyclopedias" as such..but still GREAT reference tools!
  15. I took my son out of public school when he was in second grade. For the first three months I thought I was CRAZY. He's a GREAT kid but didn't want to sit still...did want to watch tv..and didn't think of MOM as TEACHER. I was ready to pull my hair out. We are 8 years down the road now...he is almost 16 and going into 10th grade. My biggest joy is that I have had so many precious moments with him. We both love home schooling and if I ever ask if he wishes he was in school I get a determined NO. He has great manners and is a great big brother to his sister who will be in 4th grade this year and his brother who is only 4. They have developed relationships that would have been impossible if they were in school. It's a great ride!
  16. Where is the best place (quality and price) to buy science equipment for high school?
  17. you will get as many answers as there are people to answer. I would say to you do what feels right. We have home schooled for 8 years and we've NEVER done it the same way. We have followed the local public school schedule, we have taken every Friday off, we have taken LONG breaks and schooled all through the year...we just do what best suits our situation. That's the beauty of home school!:001_smile:
  18. my son used teaching textbooks this year for algebra. He has done abeka, saxon and math u see. Of everything he has used we both LOVE teaching textbooks better than anything we've had our hands on. I also have several friends that use it and have the same thoughts.
  19. we have used and been very please with Math-U-See. It is also very reasonable priced compared to many. AND you can find it used too for even better prices. Just a thought.
  20. we love chronicles of narnia for any time of the year. Little women is a good one too.
