  1. Lol. Ok, obviously I didn't state that very well. I didn't have any of that stuff at my own wedding, as it cost $2500 total, and it was very special. I just mean that prom is becoming wedding-like in appearance, and many people want to do even more fancy things for their wedding, which has a fancy inflation effect. Weddings get another degree fancier every 10 years or so. Prom fanciness is probably only a very small factor in that though. You don't think that a man who remembers his adorable planned promposal would be likely to step it up a notch more for his wedding proposal? It seems silly not to consider the analogy. The word "promposal" is intended to make the analogy itself, and the types of proposals are taken from marriage proposal styles. It's teens wanting to have the fun of an elaborate fun or romantic marriage proposal. I do think there's something to certain things being special. If you sing "happy Christmas to you," "happy Easter to you," "happy Friday to you," the whole thing becomes pointless. My MIL has this soup that can never be made any day but Christmas Eve. Easter Trees would detract from Christmas. If you had a 9th, 10th, and 11th grade graduation, it would make your high school graduation less special. If promposals become danceposals to every party you attend from 12 to 24 years old, the wedding proposal, while distinct and much more meaningful, would lose its magic. 2. It's not a terrible analogy. I kind of think of it like a progressive income tax. If we divided up all the college tuitions in the nation in some income-adjusted way, this is how much each family would need to pay. It's almost always more than the family could actually pay, because college costs more than almost any American can afford. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Climate is not a concern at all for MO driving. Any reliable vehicle will work well. Something like a Toyota Corolla is reliable and inexpensive. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Don't like it. If you have a prom complete with fancy proposal, all day in salons, couture dresses, limousines, etc, what will be left to make your wedding special? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I have a four-week plan. I have two chicken, two pork, two beef and one fish meal every week. Chicken: whole roasted, breaded breasts, casseroles, parmesian, salad Pork: loin roast, breaded chops, grilled chops, sausage pasta Beef: roast, tacos, sloppy joes, meatloaf, burgers, casserole Fish: alternate fried and grilled Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. I didn't have one as a child. It was no big deal. Rinsing before the dishwasher takes about as much time as actually washing. Just be sure to leave enough space for a large drying rack or even two racks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Don't decline! I would just take it, but if you're really feeling guilty, call them on the phone and say, "someone gave me the interview questions in advance. It occurred to me later that maybe not everyone got them. Would you like to do another interview with new questions?" Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Question 1. Both correct. I would choose the second - the purpose for the warranty is your worry-free operation. Question 2. The second option. Help is special and does not need the infinitive, although it's not incorrect to use it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. If the child does not have a severe disability, I would make them either pay rent or do almost all of the housework like a full-time housekeeper. But my kids are little and I never lived at home for more than 3 months after I turned 18, so I don't have real experience. I would also set lots of rules and basically treat them like an overgrown child. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Pencil Grip

How do you teach a preschooler the proper grip? Is some type of rubber grippy a good idea? Should I look for a fat, short pencil, or a standard pencil? He likes to hold the pencil between his first and middle fingers, with his first finger hooked around it, and he's not open to suggestions, so I think a grippy that prevents that would be helpful. Any specific recommendations? I know I'm overthinking, but I learned the wrong way when I was little and had hand cramps for many years and relearning as an adult was not easy.
  11. A little notebook and some stickers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. If it's just one average room without any detail work, I would pay them $50 each. More if they're also moving heavy furniture in and out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I also knew a child who peed constantly because she had a retained mass of stool in her bowel. She was having normal bowel movements every day, but she kept getting UTI's and peeing her pants because of this blockage. I think it was diagnosed externally but removed my colonoscopy, I'm not 100% certain on the treatment. I would definitely request a referral to a urologist.
  14. Agreed. She shouldn't be burdened with anything that would frighten her at this point. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. I don't think you need to do anything else, unless he will be missing math or reading practice. Isn't the whole point that 4.5 hours of school is plenty? I'd just let him relax outside of school! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. I think people can sometimes be too private. I don't believe in many subjects being taboo. Of course, if you discuss, you do open yourself to criticism. I couldn't care less about disagreements or even insults from strangers, but I'm the exception. I see where you're coming from. You're proud of the good choices you've made. You've worked hard. You want to share your wisdom, or at least be a little respected for how responsible you are, and instead people treat you like you're wealthy rather than prudent. It's not fair. But most people are incapable of thinking about economics, trade-offs, or long-term planning. I think if more of the prudent folk share their stories, even if it gets pushback initially, it could very gradually change mindsets. Maybe someday those people will find themselves strapped for cash and realize that actually, their old car and gray hair are fine, because they've seen the example. Sorry you're so frustrated! 18. I had a best friend for grades 3-4 who ditched me in 5. A group of a few girls in grade 7. Brief friendships in 9 and 10. Another group of friends in 11-12. Didn't have a true lasting best friend until college. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. In high school I wore a uniform. I had 3 bottoms and 5 tops. If he's messy he will need 5 bottoms. One pair of shoes should be fine. A jacket and/or a coat, depending on weather. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Interesting! I never took that until eleventh grade. Thanks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  22. Not all four, but they had two rooms. I think they all agreed to that to get the hotel they wanted in the pub district that was otherwise full.
  23. Ok. Good to know. My husband spent two weeks in England last year with three other male coworkers and they spent all their evenings walking to different pubs together and the weekend visiting tourist places, besides being in the same meetings all day. Slept in the same room. He had trouble getting time to talk to me. But I'm glad that's not always the case, especially with opposite-sex trips.
  24. Yeah, I know that. It's not entirely rational. I guess my issue with the length is that spending every night together for weeks is more likely to lead to an emotional connection compared to a couple of days. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. Has nobody else watched When Harry Met Sally? "Men and women can't be friends. The sex always gets in the way." I have friends who are men. It's a real friendship, but less intimate than with friends who are women. I don't make one-on-one plans with them usually but don't go out of my way to avoid being alone with them either. My male friends all happen to be single. My husband doesn't have any female friends, except my friends. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
