This is a place for health anxiety sufferers who need more support than they are finding in real life. Feel free to vent here; type out your worries for listening ears, without fear!! Anyone can join, but please try to observe the following rules:

- No judgement... even if a fear seems totally irrational or involving what you consider a minor issue

- No negative anecdotes [My husband's cousin twice-removed had something like that, didn't get it treated in time, and died]

- No "helpful" online diagnosing [it could be x (horrible), y (terrible), or z (you don't even want to know)]

- No consulting the Google and reporting back here

- Limited recommendations of specific medical tests or remedies, whether OTC or prescription or "natural". Please recognize that these recommendations may worsen a person's health anxiety.

Also -- there is no such thing as TMI (too much information) here. You can talk about topics you consider embarrassing, gross, anything. Only group members can see posts.
-

A closed club for Hive Writers, pre-published or post-published, or even if publishing is not a goal and you like to write Harry Potter fanfic or poetry about your Maine Coon Cat. This will be an utterly safe place to be share parts of our tender writings. No unkindness will be tolerated. If it's not your style, just say that - "I'm not a good one to ask because Goth Erotica is not in my wheelhouse." This is for fiction and non-fiction writers; long or short form. I will try to have a discussion point on here weekly but also, please don't wait around for me; I'm busy like we all are.

This group is initially for those members who will be teaching high school chemistry in the fall of 2013. Chemistry can be a challenging subject to teach at the high school level, so the goal is to share resources, expertise, emotional support, and lots of virtual chocolate. Please come ask questions and share your solutions. Tales of successful labs and tales of lab woes are also welcome.

I thought it might be a good idea to start it up with a handful of threads - really just titles -to keep us organized:

Introductions/Check-in: introduce yourself and your student, your curriculum and perhaps your goals (Honors, regular, just surviving high school science). Check back in here if you make a major change, talk about the results and maybe what you would do differently next time. This could be helpful for those who come after.

Planning: What you are working on over the summer to prepare; how you are organizing your materials and how you are setting up your lab materials.

Resources: I thought I would link Dicentra's resource thread and we can add as we go.

Topics: Maybe Dicentra could set this up? ;) We will all be using different curriculum, but will cover roughly the same material, if not always in the same order: introduction, atoms, stoichiometry, states of matter, solutions, nuclear chemistry, etc. The idea would be that if you have a question about Boyle's Law, then you would go to the thread on "Gases" and ask your question or talk about the cool experiment you did or link a great Youtube lecture on the topic. This way we can stay organized, I think. :tongue_smilie:

Whatever else you can think of: math for chemistry, field trips, and maybe a section for "practical application." One of my favorite ideas for filed trips in chemistry came from mcconnellboys with the suggestion of visiting distilleries, breweries, etc. to see chemistry in action. Kitchen chemistry is a great teaching tool as well.

Have a great year and enjoy the journey.
-

A schedule of folks who are committing a specific time period on Thurs, 12/2, to praying/sending positive thoughts as Imp undergoes extensive dental surgery w/many collateral health/pain issues. PLEASE PM me OR post here w/times that are good (or specifically not good - i.e., middle of the night) for you on Thursday, 12/2, to devote/commit a 10 minute increment of time (indicate if you can do more) to pray/send positive thoughts. WE ARE PRAYING SPECIFICALLY: that the RSD will not spread to Imp's face, the Lord will guide her surgeon's hands, she will have peace before, during & after the procedure, she will be covered in the Lord's love, mercy & comfort throughout - beginning right now & culminating in being free of pain, infection & dental issues.

(See the avatar - we want Imp pain free & sleeping like THAT baby, blanketed in the Lord's mercy & love, & prancing around in no time at all wearing a bit more clothing than that sweet little one. ;)
