Stayseeliz
Okay, are there ANY doctors that take patients seriously anymore?? I've been waiting months to get into a new gynecologist today since my old OB/GYN doesn't take my insurance anymore. I've been told by two different doctors that I probably have endometriosis. I have a host of issues related to "that time of the month" and migraines, bloating, nausea, etc the rest of the month. Something is not right. I thought they would do an exam today and maybe talk about an ultrasound, surgery, etc. Nope. She took my history and said birth control pills. She didn't even examine me. She listened to my lungs and pushed on my stomach some. I said I wasn't taking BC pills. I'm almost 36 and have high blood pressure. Not gonna happen. She said I should take ibuprofen then. I told her I felt like we were trying to put a band aid on a gunshot wound. I could have something seriously wrong with me and she wants me to take ibuprofen?? She new I was unhappy so she consulted another dr and he came in and talked down to me. He said that we had to try to treat it "medicinally" first before we explore anything else. He also told me that there is a wide range of what is normal and my bleeding probably wasn't "that bad". Umm, really?? They are trying to alleviate symptoms without even trying to figure out what's wrong!!! I came home and filed a complaint with my insurance and asked who else I could go to. I found another practice that will take me but not for 3 months. I am SO SO discouraged.
Random
:grouphug: I'm so sorry. Don't give up, though. There are still lots of good doctors out there, who will listen and work with you.

If you've followed any of my story with dh's medical issues for the last 4 months you will know I understand. I am shocked you could not get examined even! Good grief, it could be something bad for all they know. I should not be shocked though....my MIL has some female trouble going on and thinks her bladder and uterus are dropping out....she also could not get examined...they referred her to a specialist who can't see her until Feb! She is leaving for CA in the morning...her dd is a RN there and has arranged a doctor to see her Monday.
momtoamiracle
I would try a GP. My OB/gym shut down her practice so I just go to my GP for everything. She has no qualms about running any tests. toy would peobably also get in faster. There are some lousy drs out there.

Stayseeliz
Thanks for the support. I'm so discouraged. I called my GP to get referred to someone else and I might just see if I can get in with her. I went to the ER in July for this issue and they said they ruled out everything "scary" so I'm hoping it's nothing too bad. But I seriously need at least a decent exam. I was floored today. He talked to me like I was a child. The other place just has such a back log that they don't have new patient appointments until February. Right now I'm just trying to figure out ways to reat it myself. I don't have any other choices.

Often an earlier appt will materialize if a dr calls on behalf of the patient.

my2boysteacher
I have had much better luck when I see a Physician's Assistant. The ones I have seen are easier to get in to see, and take a lot more time during the appointment, examining and asking questions. I switched myself and my kids to a PA and have had no regrets. Stayseeliz
The referral clerk from my GP's office called this morning and I begged her to really try to get the appointment as soon as possible for me. We'll see!
Debbi in Texas
You went to an OB/GYN and they didn't examine? Have you had an exam recently and I missed seeing that? I hope you find a better doctor soon.
Lisa R.
If a doctor thinks you have endometriosis, the first thing he/she will do is prescribe birth control pills. (Actually, I believe if you go to the ob/gyn with a complaint of any kind, the first thing they will do if prescribe birth control pills. But I digress..) The only way to definitively tell if you have endo is surgery. Symptoms will lead you and your doctor to believe you have it, but symptoms, sonograms, or palpitations will not tell you. It is just day surgery and the scopes they will use will not even require stitches when they are finished. But, yes, he should've done a more thorough exam. I make no excuses as to why he did not do more. I don't blame you for not wanting to take BP pills. Not everyone tolerates them or is a candidate for them. If you can tolerate them, they can often bring the only relief--outside of surgery--to someone suffering with endo. While all OB/GYNs deal with endo, very few specialize in it. If you think you have it, I'd try and find a doctor in your area that has this as his/her specialty. There are a handful, no exaggeration, of doctors in the U.S. that truly specialize and use cutting edge procedures in dealing with this. My dd suffered terribly. She had two useless surgeries from well-meaning doctors who were just not qualified to deal with a difficult case like hers. It's a long story, but through a series of providential means, we found a great doctor that performed a successful surgery. She was approaching a lifestyle that needed to be modified as a result of her pain, and now she has a brand new life. Words cannot express how grateful we are. Dr. David Redwine in Oregon is a leading doctor in his area. I'd advise you to search his website for info. In the past, you could send him your medical records, and he will evaluate and send you back his opinion. I don't know if he still does this or not. The above all assumes you have endo. Of course, you need a physician (a good one who will actually listen to you) to diagnose this first.
