heartlikealion
Like something out of a horror movie, a swarm of wasps attacked when the librarian and I opened the book drop. We both got stung. I got stung on my thigh a few hours ago and when I woke up from my nap the area had spread. I just realized I have some Benadryl here I can take, but I don't have any hydrocortisone. Any one have experience with these? I don't know if I had an allergic reaction or if it's normal, but the red area is huge, like the size of a coaster. Honestly, if I don't think about it too much I don't notice the area. It's just visually really bad. The initial pain/stinging was earlier. Oh and I used the "Bug Bite Thing" device on it as soon as I got home but I don't even think that device works.
Starr
I found this: https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/conditions-and-diseases/insect-stings I hope it settles down soon!
Melissa in Australia
Some things that may help Honey A freshly cut onion put on the spot (my mum used this no idea if it does anything) The uncurled frond of some bracken fern I get this with bees. It isn't for me a life threatening allergy, rather a local area reaction
wathe
Local reactions to hymenoptera venom can be quite big. A bee flew up my trouser leg on a backpacking trip on the weekend and got me upper thigh/groin! The sting site was red, angry and firm, peak size 4 inches in diameter. And so itchy! It stayed big like that for about 3 days, then slowly shrank. I still have 1x2 inch area of redness, but not swollen anymore.

I don't have any of the other symptoms. I did wash it with water and soap earlier and never found a stinger so I don't think one was left behind. I did ice it, but apparently not as long as recommended.
Melissa in Australia
Oh if it is very itchy and you are out then spit helps. I tell my kids lick bites don't scratch.
ktgrok
Benedryl at bed time, or during day if you need it. Cortisone cream on it will help. Worst is the next day or so when it itches. UGH. Hot compresses or ice can help.
heartlikealion
Leg looks normal today, minus the tiny red dot where I was stung. It was a little itchy last night, but mostly I was able to ignore it. Today barely noticeable as well... or I'm just too distracted to pay it much attention lol. 3
Catwoman
Thanks for the update -- I'm glad it got better so quickly!
maize
If it gets itchy again try running hot water over it--as hot as you can stand. It will itch like crazy under the water, but once you remove it from the hot water the itch will be completely gone for some period of time.
Indigo Blue
Sometimes lavender oil helps when I get a bite. Yours is very severe, so it might not help. If you have some, wouldn’t hurt to try. Edited July 22, 2022 by Indigo Blue
wintermom
Ouch! Wasp stings are painful. Hope you recover quickly. Glad it happened near home and civilization. Both my wasp stings have happened while camping. The pain and redness didn't last too long, thankfully.
heartlikealion
Tonight it itched again and looked irritated. I tried spit lol but that was before my shower so not sure if that had time to do anything. I put shower on hottest setting and ran the water over it. I took one Benadryl pill last night but the box says 1-2 so tonight maybe 2? I’ve been moving into my new place and most of the day it didn’t affect me so I didn’t think to buy anything else while I was out.
Clarita
I discovered in May there's a bee sting wipe. My daughter stepped on a bee and got stung after the wipe she was all better. There is a topical numbing agent in them to help with the pain. For the future anyway,
