Night Elf
What did you think about it? Were there sad parts? Dd and I are trying to decide if we want to go. I don't like sad movies though. I cry easily.
itsheresomewhere
We thought it was very good. I felt it was more motivating than sad.
Sk8ermaiden
SPOILERS The grandmother Moana is very close to, dies. That is the only sad part. But it's an old age thing? And a little sad and not traumatic. The movie was excellent. We loved it! It's funny way more than sad.
Xuzi
I think they turn the one death in the movie into something incredibly beautiful. I thought the movie was amazing. :)
Night Elf
Ok. We'll give it a try.
fraidycat
I might have to give this movie a try from the Hive's good reviews. The previews left me feeling very flat and not at all interested in seeing it.
vonfirmath
I took my 5 year old and it was too much for her. Right about the time of the spoiler above, she reached her limit and we left.
displace
It was excellent! A movie without potty humor or too much scariness. As an adult I enjoyed it. The final scene with the lava person was not scary for my 8 year old but too much for my 4/5 year old. I would say probably 6 and up, maybe 7 and up, or younger if you cover eyes/skip a bit of the movie.
Rachel
It was cute. My 9 and almost 7 year old enjoyed it. A couple parts were scary for my 4 year old. I asked if he wanted to leave but he chose to stay. I didn't think it was sad.
littlebug42
I have no little ones but my whole family loved the movie. Probably my favorite Disney movie ever. I got weepy more from a Mom standpoint and the kid spreading her wings theme. With teens, that hits close to home for me right now.
Annie G
We loved Moana! Loved it enough that I sent $ so the grandkids could see it (living 1000+ miles away stinks!) and they all liked it except the 2 year old. She's recently fallen in love with Frozen and wasn't interested in Moana. It was funny and touching and the music was good.
zoobie
It was a beautiful movie! I love the score (Lin-Manuel Miranda). The part with the giant ray did make me cry a little, but it was so, so lovely.
Tanaqui
I enjoyed it. No really sad parts, and the general consensus from Polynesians is that while the fact that cultures are conflated is annoying, and Maui is definitely not true to how he ought to be portrayed, it's not a super racist flick. So yay! Of course, the second we walked out of the movie I realized I ought to have done a mini-lesson on Polynesian navigation before we saw it. I read a really cool article on the subject a month or two ago. Sigh. We did our article review *after* the movie. (I can link to it if you like, but gimme a few minutes to find it.)
umsami
Our entire family liked it (6-13 year old plus me.) I don't remember anything sad. Even in terms of scary, there were only some mild scenes (two that I can think of.)
MooCow
My daughter and her friends loved it-she said it was the best Disney Princess movie ever
