ScoutTN
do you prefer raisins or grapes in it? I have both. Can't remember which way I like best.
luuknam
You should make it a poll. But anyway, grapes, I guess.
Jean in Newcastle
I like and make it with raisins. But I know that some people like grapes and not raisins. What does your family like? edited because apparently I don't always type the words I'm thinking. PeachyDoodle
Raisins, definitely. It's how my grandma made it. And she put in mini-marshmallows.
EmilyGF
Grapes. Because they have more volume and aren't so sweet. Emily

ScoutTN
Thanks, all! My kids like it either way as long as I don't skip the marshmallows! Making this for a party, so my kids may only get leftovers, if there are any. I got a bushel of apples this morning at the farmers' market, so this seemed like the obvious choice for a side to take to the BBQ tonight. I am going with grapes and dried cranberries.
KatieJ
Aren't apples a given? I thought so. I have never heard of grapes, raisins, or marshmallows in waldorf salad.
ktgrok
I thought so. I have never heard of grapes, raisins, or marshmallows in waldorf salad. Apples, celery, grapes (cut in half), walnuts, marshmallows, and mayo.
Jean in Newcastle
I'd never heard of marshmallows in it. I put walnuts in it, which I thought was part of the original recipe as well.
ScoutTN
Apples, celery, grapes (cut in half), walnuts, marshmallows, and mayo. Yes, this. Undoubtedly healthier without the marshmallows and tastier with. Some people use raisins in place of the grapes.
Jean in Newcastle
I just got some Waldorf salad from the grocery store It has red grapes [emoji524] in it. Edited October 8, 2016 by Jean in Newcastle
Arctic Bunny
Okay, so when my grandma made "Waldorf" salad it was basically cabbage, whipped salad dressing, apples, walnuts and raisins. I think we've hit upon another regional thing!
