Squawky Acres
My husband is in search of high-quality, simple shades like they have in New York hotels and corporate apartment buildings (but apparently not so much in other cities). I think I know what he means -- they roll up and are sort of a woven, vinyl/plastic-like material, very heavy-duty and durable, with little chains on the side. Does anyone know where to purchase this type of shade?
SparklyUnicorn
I don't really know what he means either. I've never seen something like that in a hotel in NY. Does he just mean a roll shade? Should be able to find them even in Walmart.
MEmama
I've seen those at Home Depot and Lowes.
Squawky Acres
Thanks. He means a very high-quality roll shade of a woven material that is almost hard (seems to be made of something synthetic). They have it at certain NY hotels and the newer luxury apartment buildings. He suggested that I call some of these places, but I really want to avoid that type of pointless phone call -- as if anyone in customer service has anything to do with the brand of shades they order. Rachel
Does he have a picture? Maybe try calling a specialty window covering store in your area.
Callie
Try Blinds.com
Laura Corin
Something like this? http://www.directblinds.co.uk/roller-blinds/thermal-energy-saving/pvc-vinyl/
KungFuPanda
Are they the sun shades made of that black plasticky material that cuts down on the light but doesn't eliminate it entirely? I've seen these in restaurants. Maybe googling commercial window blinds?
Katy
Just look for the term "room darkening." There are cheap kinds and expensive kinds. If he wants the sort with a chain or a remote to control them rather than a spring roller, they will probably be expensive. You can get room darkening spring controlled roller shades made of thick plastic at almost any discount or hardware store for less than $10. Squawky Acres
That's helpful to have a new search term. Yes, he wants the very high-quality ones, not the $10 kind --- like the ones in restaurants. Do you know if they would also provide privacy for a first-floor bedroom? Squawky Acres
Have you had personal experience with the Shade Store? It does look like the shades are a little bit more expensive and hopefully higher quality than Home Depot or Blinds.com. I like that we can order swatches. That way, I can confirm that the material is what DH had in mind.
kitten18
I don't, it was just the first site that came up when I googled 'high quality roller shade'. So, you might want to try those terms in your search.

Spryte
Costco also has window treatments, but I've never used them. We've moved recently, and tons of catalogues are arriving - there's another that looks promising. I'll try to find it and come back and post. idnib
Check the Hunter Douglas designer screen shades. The web site seems to be down for me so I can't give you a link. HD is nice quality.
