maize
Winter is a good time for celebrations, Merry Christmas and joyous holidays everyone! For those in the Southern Hemisphere, do you celebrate any major winter holidays? Christmas felt very different to me when I celebrated it in South America, and it seems somehow sad to not have a big celebration in the winter. Christmas felt very different to me when I celebrated it in South America, and it seems somehow sad to not have a big celebration in the winter. For those of us native to the southern hemisphere, Christmas has never been a winter holiday. Though that doesn't stop people decorating with fake snow, singing "I'm dreaming of a white Christmas" and thinking a snowy Christmas might be a fun thing to try. But this being *summer* doesn't meant it is necessarily *hot.* I remember several 12C Christmases in my childhood. They don't happen any more. Global warming and all... Some people do "Christmas in July" as an excuse to eat a traditional roast dinner and heavy pudding when it is not too hot to enjoy it. I'm inclined to think this is sensible, though it's not something I do. Pagans celebrate Yule in June. Otherwise, no. Anyway, :cheers2: I've got Bundaberg's ginger beer. What do you lot have? For those of us in a warm climate in the northern hemisphere, Christmas isn't all snow and sleigh rides either. I love that one of our family traditions is to ride our bikes around the neighborhood on Christmas Eve looking at Christmas lights (not tonight though - it's raining :( ). Christmas feels very much like Christmas anyway. I think it's only if you're used to snow and cold does it feel weird to wear shorts and cook out on Christmas. For some of us, it's normal. There used to be a big Christmas bonfire at one of the beaches where I grew up in S FL. That was a fave tradition. Not so much here. LOL!
