ProudGrandma
she is 14. she could fit in a size small adult or the equivilent in the Jr. sizes ( don't know what that is). It needs to be super warm and the right materal to play in the snow. But she doesn't want super bright (little kid) colors and she doesn't like the fur around the hood...but wants a hood. We can't afford more than about $70. I have looked about every place I can think of...and have come up empty handed. SO PLEASE...if you can help me, I would be so grateful. She doesn't have a coat at all...and it's getting cold here in Nebraska. thanks.
gardenmom5
Costco has some great quilted down coats for under $50. You can also try Sierra trading post.
ProudGrandma
we don't have a costco near us and I am not a member (major bummer!!!)...and unless I am looking at the wrong thing, the coats at Sierra trading post are way too costly. Ottakee
Check and see if there is anything you like at Land's End (esp. check the clearance stuff) as they have 31% off today ----code Spooky with the PIN 3131 You could also check the girls size 18-20 as that is very similar to a woman's small and might be a lot cheaper if they have a color she likes. Do you have any higher end consignment stores near you? Ours often has some very nice name brand coats for reasonable prices...........yes, $30-50 might be high for a used coat but if they are in good shape and warm it is worth it. Another place to look for warm weather gear is the local farm store. Ours has some nice fashionable ones as well as the work wear type. Chris in VA
Do you have a Burlington Coat Factory nearby? Land's End has coats that are 31% off today. Not to be redundant--sorry, Ottakee!
ProudGrandma
no burlington coat factory...and I have checked their website. I will check Land's end...thanks. I wish we had a nice consignment shop nearby...but we don't...just a really bad Goodwill....which I did check yesterday...and the only coats they had were little kid coats. ProudGrandma
thanks so much for the offer...you are so kind. It's too long and she won't like th fur around the hood. Is there one like that...shorter without the fur?? That would be just what she would like...maybe navy or brown/tan...or black. I know...she is picky....I know....UGH!!!! If my pocktbook wasn't so tight, I would be in a better spot too... size 14 might be too small too....I would like to have her wear it next year too if possible. thanks again for your offer....you are so kind. Carol in Cal.
I'm not sure whether that is as warm. It looks to me like the warmest jackets all have fur around the hoods.
ProudGrandma
how much is the blue one from Costco??? does it really shed like a few of the reviewers said? or not?? and what about the size...true to size??
Carol in Cal.
$39.99. I can have it shipped to me for free, don't know whether I can have it shipped directly to you or not. If not, then I would have to get it and then send it on, so there would be shipping for that, I'm guessing around $20 but don't really know. ProudGrandma
when my daughter comes home I will measure her so I can figure out what size I want....THANK YOU so much!!!
Carol in Cal.
I haven't seen it in person. A couple of the reviews are negative--one mentions it leaking feathers, and another, shedding from the inside.
zoobie
If it's the one that was in stores, it's not super warm. I wasn't sure it would be enough here in GA.
AmandaVT
Target has this one which looks like it meets the criteria: http://www.target.com/p/women-s-ski-jacket-night-fall-zeroxposur/-/A-15170078#prodSlot=large_1_4 Lands End Squall Parka is great - I got this for DS this year and it's super cozy warm (in kids sizes). They're around $100, but Lands End is having a 31% off sale: http://www.landsend.com/products/womens-squall-parka/id_243928 This LL Bean coat is nice, but a bit higher than your price point. I wouldn't be surprised if they have a sale soon too: http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/70410?feat=610-GN1&page=winter-warmer-jacket
Carol in Cal.
If you want LLBean, buy it soon. Last year I started looking for a very warm winter coat for DD there in late November, and all their warmest stuff was sold out. They didn't start taking orders again on the coat we wanted until July, and then shipping started in August.
happi duck
Do you have a Kohls store? My dd usually has good luck there.
helena
There's a few Roxy ski jackets with hoods in your price range on Ebay. There's a cute black and white checked one for $65.

saw
How about Uniqlo? My dds have jackets from there that weren't too expensive and have worn well.
MeAndTheBoys
If you have a Sams near you, they have good coats some winters--I got a blue one with a hood similar to the Costco one posted above, for about $35 last year. Even if you aren't a member at Sam's, you can shop there and pay a 10% premium. Which, on a $35 coat, would add $3.50. I've gotten a ton of coats at thrift shops. And some at Old Navy.
