rainbird2
I am looking for a great coffee maker for my husband for Christmas. I don't drink coffee, and I don't even know how to make it. In an effort to be a better wife, I am hoping to purchase a programmable coffee maker so I can make him coffee for his morning trek to work. I don't mind spending a little change. I want something that will last and will brew a great cup of coffee. He's quite the coffee connoisseur. I also would like something that has the option to brew 1 cup up to 8 cups (for when we have guests). Thanks for your help!
OnTheBrink
I'd look at Bunn. You can see most models on Amazon. They're pricey, but I love mine. It's not programmable, but it does have the thermal carafe that keeps coffee hot for about 8 hours without it being on a burner. Bunn has several models. Or look at Bunn's website. Ellie
We have a Hamilton Beach BrewStation Plus. Mr. Ellie gets compliments all the time about his coffee.
Stacia
I love my Braun coffee maker, but it's so old, I don't think they make it anymore. For hauling his coffee to work, I'd highly recommend a Kleen Kanteen insulated thermos w/ the cafe lid. :thumbup1:
mom@shiloh
I like our Bunn coffee maker. It keeps the water warm in the reservoir, so the coffee is ready quickly. Ours isn't programmable though.
Spryte
How much is a little change? Anything by Jura will rock his coffee world. Programmable, cleans itself (yep, love it), cup by cup deliciousness. Their refurbished models are just as good as new. Then, for fun, add in a coffee subscription. Counter Culture roasts a good bean. Our favorite, though, is Camano Island Roasters. Organic, shade grown. The big deal about this us that they roast the beans the day before shipping. Mmmmmm. Drinking mine right now.
Mergath
If he's really picky about his coffee, a French press makes amazing coffee. Much better than a drip coffee maker or the Keurigs.
ThatHomeschoolDad
Another vote for the Brewstation, or similar non-pot model. Just like a little convenience store on the counter:
Lady Florida.
Another vote for a Brew Station. We love ours.
GreenKitty
I'd say Brew station.
Harriet Vane
I have to recommend a French press. Truly the best coffee ever. It's easy to use too. Just heat water in a tea kettle (or microwave, but make sure it's boiling) and pour over the grounds. Four minutes later depress the plunger and pour. In the Rain
We also use a French Press. It really does make a delicious cup of coffee.
rainbird2
Wow! Thanks for the recommendations, but now I'm really at a loss. :) This is good, though... So, the Brewstation...is that just for one cup of coffee, or can it make a whole pot? If it's just for one cup, then it is out of the running. I need something that can make several cups for dinner guests. Same question with the french press...can I make several pots? The Bunn...are there any programmable ones? You see, being a good wife can only happen after 7:30 a.m. since I'm still up with a baby most nights. :) It would be nice to have something that's programmable. I am definitely getting the coffee subscription and the kleen kanteen thermos! My husband will thank you all this Christmas!!!
rainbird2
Oh, just read the Brewstation description on Amazon. It can make 10 cups!
Mergath
Same question with the french press...can I make several pots? Do you mean several cups? My french press can make eight cups at a time. I think you can get ones that make up to twelve.
Harriet Vane
Re the French press--they come in all sizes from a tiny 1-cup to 12-cups. I have two 4-cup ones. One pot makes enough for two cups for me and some for my teens. When I have people over, I put a pot at each end of the table.
ThatHomeschoolDad
Oh, just read the Brewstation description on Amazon. It can make 10 cups! Ours has been toted to campgrounds and has been fairly rugged. All plastic and easy to clean. Can't speak to the fancier models with the timers and screens. In the Rain
Our French Press is 12 cups, although that is not the same as 12 mugs of coffee. It is very similar to this one, if not exactly the same. It is pretty and makes me happy. :001_smile: Once the first pot is poured off, a second can be made immediately. We use an electric tea kettle to boil the water. It doesn't have the advantage of being programmable though. If you are up with a baby at night, something programmable might be nice.
