praisefor3
I'm just joining the coconut oil fan club. I have no idea what brand tastes best or where to buy it. Any suggestions? The only suggestion I have received so far is to not buy the "Now" brand.
Stayseeliz
I buy Trader Joe's brand if I'm baking and want something to taste like coconut. I buy Louana for everyday cooking. I buy it at Walmart.
~Amanda~
I buy nutiva; tropical traditions is on my list of "want to try"
shukriyya
I've tried lots of different kinds but always come back to Nutiva. You can buy it on vitacost in 54 oz containers for *a lot* cheaper than what you'd pay at the store. PP, I tried the TT brand, had read all the info on it, how great it was, centrifuge etc but I didn't like the taste, it was soapy so we went back to Nutiva. The only thing I don't like about Nutiva is that it comes in plastic tubs. I would prefer it if they packed it in glass.
~Amanda~
You can get the nutiva on amazon, too; subscribe and save, 2 54 oz containers for like
DeeDeeMarie
Since I shop at Trader Joes a couple times a month, I just buy the one they have. I use it mainly for cooking. Since I can't have dairy I use it in place of butter (on popcorn, bake potato, corn on the cob..) Liz CA
I have bought Spectrum. They have two different versions. Nutiva was very good but costs more than Spectrum.
Caitilin
Has anyone tried the EFAGold one--it's a great price on amazon, so I wonder if it's worth it?
Mabeline
You can get the nutiva on amazon, too; subscribe and save, 2 54 oz containers for like 40 I found the tub of Nutiva at Costco the other day. It was a little cheaper there, $20. I had been paying $46 through Amazon.
Miss Peregrine
We get Nutiva on Amazon. I would be so happy to see it at Costco.
funschooler5
I get Barlean's from Amazon. It smells better than any other I've tried. They don't package it until you order it for maximum freshness.
Denisemomof4
Nutiva. I get it at Amazon and am on auto ship for an even cheaper price.
Soror
I buy different brands depending on price and such. Right now I'm using Tropical Traditions, I buy 5 gallons at a time and paid about $27 per gallon when I ordered. I've used Nutiva, Wilderness Family Naturals, and Mountain Rose Herbs as well I've not noticed a big difference in any of them.
Sevilla
I buy the giant tubs from http://www.vitacost.com (vitacost name brand). I used to buy Nutive but the Vitacost is the same thing but cheaper.
anmom
Another one here for Nutiva. I get mine at Amazon as well. I just wanted to add in case you don't know, because I didn't at first. Some brands, like Louana are refined and therefore not as good quality which is why it is cheaper. When it is refined it removes a lot of the health beneifits. fraidycat
Tropical traditions. I buy it by the gallon (s). Two kinds - gold label for baking, skin, eating off the spoon and expeller pressed (no scent) for everyday style cooking where the smell of coconut ruins the food, even if you can't really taste it. Munchkins_mama
I prefer Nutiva also. It has the best straight coconut flavor. Our Costco just started carrying it, 78oz for $21.99! I was so excited I bought one even though I have two gallons of another brand in the pantry still. Coconut oil has an awesome shelf life so don't be afraid to stock up. Last year a friend and I split a six gallon order from Soapers Choice ( EV, Food grade, unrefined coconut oil) and it's been fine.
Tap
Nutiva. Our Costco just started carrying it also. I have also used and been happy with TJs and Spectrum.
besroma
I buy the Whole Foods Market store brand.
SonshineLearner
There are some that aren't ok if you're allergic to peanuts. I buy the Nutiva brand. I like the one with less coconut taste for cooking... more for when we're doing something like popcorn :) I buy... organic :)
