  1. We will be traveling at Thanksgiving and even though they are less than an hour apart, we will only have time to visit one. It will be my father (80's), DH, 2 18 year olds, and a 12 year old. We are undecided which one might interest our wide span of ages. Can anyone offer any advice? Thank you!
  2. Our current one is white...because it's the last of the old appliances that have to be changed over since our kitchen remodel with the granite and other new appliances. I really didn't want to change it until I absolutely had to. But since it is now 20 years old, the ice maker hasn't worked for five years, it's leaking at the bottom...I believe the time has come to take the plunge. Lowe's is having a great sale for the next two days and I really don't want to have to choose a fridge and get it delivered when it is an "emergency". (My last stove died on Christmas Eve Eve and I had to get the new one delivered on Christmas Eve. It's fine but I would have liked more time to make a decision and compare models.) I was holding out again stainless but after reading the responses it sounds like that wins the majority vote and I was especially impacted by the thought of Darth Fridge. haha! Headed to Lowe's tomorrow! Thank you!
  3. I have a black dishwasher, black stove, black granite countertops including a large black granite island (hickory cabinets). My refrigerator is about to die. Would a stainless steel refrigerator look ok or would you stick to black? My husband says a black refrigerator would be an awfully big black object In the kitchen and darken it but I'm just not sure that stainless would look good with that mix. The other appliances are fairly new and should last several more years so no replacing those anytime soon (hopefully). My previous appliances were white before this changeover started so either a black or stainless fridge will be new to us. Thanks for the help!
  4. We are starting WR - Fable (Fourth Grade). How long are you going to spend covering this book? One semester? A whole year? Do we also need to cover Book 2 during 4th grade?
  5. Yes you should most definitely go to the corporate level. If you have pics it will help. I am a frequent business traveler (at least 2 hotel nights almost every week) and only stay at a certain brand hotel because I can use all my points for family travel and I like this brand best. But...I would most certainly use Trip Advisor to post my experience whether or not I got compensated for any issues. If you do get compensated you should mention that in your review but your experience is still valid. The hotel may or may not post a response (many do) so also mention the amount of time you waited for a resolution in case they make it look like they eagerly took care of your concerns. I would leave out all the info about the other hotel as it would not be relevant to your experience there. I use Trip Advisor A LOT.
  6. We have been drudging through WWE for two years and it is time for a change. A couple months ago I read on here about another program that seemed to be generating a lot of excitement and I want to look at it while I'm here. All I remember is that several people like me who liked WWE but were just so tired of it really liked this. And maybe it was kind of new? Sorry...any help would be appreciated!!
  7. We will be overnighting in Hong Kong on an international flight in June. We will arrive one evening and leave late afternoon the next. I suppose the best transportation to a hotel would be a taxi? Anyone know a hotel to suggest? Also, is there anything we could see or do in this short time to see a small bit of Hong Kong? I've tried to do some internet research but our stay is so short that it is hard to get a picture of what would be best to do during that time. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
  8. We are flying into Chiang Mai and will be there most of the time. Towards the end we are taking the train to Bangkok to visit there for one day. We were then going to take a train to the beaches from there for a couple days before returning to Bangkok to fly home.
  9. Most of the time in Chaing Mai but we can travel anywhere for the 3 day beach trip. We likely won't be back for a long time so we'd like to really experience the best place.
  10. We will be in Thailand in June for a couple weeks visiting some family. We would like to spend 2 or 3 days at one of the prettiest beaches, also. They have just recently moved to Thailand so don't quite know yet what the prettiest but family friendly area would be to visit. Anyone have any suggestions of which area or even a hotel suggestion? There are really lots of choices! I've checked Trip Advisor but would still appreciate a recommendation from a family friendly source.
  11. I'm not looking for Old Roy pricing...but with three dogs now this question becomes more relevant. We have always used medium grade foods but now there is so much controversy over what is good and what is not that I am lost. I am hoping to find a food in the neighborhood of $40 for a 40 pound bag. When I look at some of the "top" rated foods you are lucky to get a 20 pound bag for that price, plus I get lost in the seemingly endless list of choices out there. So...is there a medium (or higher) rated food that anyone would recommend?
  12. OK way more than $7 but this is our favorite honey (alfalfa): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004K67AOE/ref=oh_details_o07_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  13. Do you ever have mice? These are the world's best mouse traps but you would have to order two sets. :) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001H1LR6W/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_5?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
  14. This has been an interesting topic to follow. Our son (raised Southern Baptist but now non-denominational Christian) is dating a girl from Missouri Synod background. Can you tell me a couple differences they may face in their faiths?
  15. Oh wow. Now you have me thinking. Maybe I DON'T need a food processor and should just get a good blender! Truthfully I don't even know what I would use a food processor for! I can cook...but I cook because we need to eat...not for fulfillment.
  16. I am thinking of using my Kohl's cash to buy a really nice food processor (Cuisinart 14 cup). I have never had a food processor and only had cheap blenders. Now that I am eating GF my DH thinks we need a food processor since we will be making more from scratch. However, I don't want to have to have a food processor AND a blender. The only thing I have really used blenders for in the past is to make smoothies (to crush ice and blend fruit) and milk shakes. Would I be able to do this with a food processor?
  17. I was making two different recipes and failed at multi-tasking. Can you come up with anything that I could make with these ingredients together? I've got quite a few other ingredients on hand I could add, too. 4 egg yolks (I have the whites, also.) 1/2 c sugar 1 c brown rice flour Gluten free would be best (have lots of other gf flours, too) but not looking for dairy free. Thanks!
  18. I rent a car almost every week for business. Depending on where you want to go...you can definitely find some good deals. I would google for rental car codes and you will get directed to many sites. Many of the codes are ones anyone qualifies for. If you are going to Florida it is especially helpful to look at the transportation forum on disboards. You can also join National's Emerald club for free and you get to choose your vehicle at the airport. Many times there are mini vans on the emerald aisle - but not always so it would be taking a chance. Since my rentals for business are all paid for I don't search for deals unless it is a family trip but you can definitely cut your costs WAY down if you take the time to research.
  19. I am on a plane almost every week. I'd like to download some movies but don't necessarily want to pay ten bucks for each movie. Is there a site where you find good movies to download?
  20. If you live near a university you might start there. Our oldest is in grad school to become an SLP and they have a full program for helping kids...especially if you aren't sure if he needs treatment our not.
  21. UPDATE: Sorry for the slow update. Thank you to all who helped! We did take him to the vet. By the time we got there I had a strong belief based on just some internet research that he had ehrliciosis. However, I did not mention this to the vet (it wasn't our regular vet) and $300 later we had the same diagnosis and a bottle of pills. He was so bad that they almost wanted to keep him but we brought him home. It took a full 3 weeks for him to be back to himself. He lost a lot of weight. The antibiotic also killed the appetite and it gave him what I can only describe as "shudders". He would all of a sudden start shivering several times a day that lasted for a minute or two. It never seemed to change his consciousness but we are so glad that stopped after 3 weeks of the med. Thank you again for your help. We are glad to have our bouncy Tigger-like dog back! 22. My favorite beef stew calls for 1/2 cup flour to mix with the butter. I am assuming this is for thickening. I am new to this whole gf thing especially in cooking. What flour should I use in it or should I use xanthem gum (or whatever that is called.) If so, do I use the same ratio? I really don't like the consistency of that stuff but if you think it is important I will use it.
  23. I really want to tighten and tone, make my arms smaller and definitely get in better shape. Going to a gym is not an option. I travel a couple days a week and could go to the gym in the hotels but I would like to have something I can do in my room as well as at home but I don't want to waste my time. I need to lose some weight but I'm not expecting the bands to do that. I would just like to think that my arms, legs, and stomach could get tighter. Could I expect that if I used them right?
  24. I've done nearly all of her studies, some at home and some in a group. The group offers good feedback and fellowship. But my favorite ones I have done at home. I need to not be on a deadline for completion like you are when you are in a group. Having said that, the videos are very important to me so I download them usually at a cost of $5 each. Since I tend to do that about every other week the expense does not seem that great to me although by the time you finish the whole thing you have definitely put out some money. But to me the studies are worth it. At home I can replay the video, pause the video, take extra days for homework and truly have time alone with Him. Here is where you can find the ones that have downloads: http://www.lifeway.com/Beth-Moore/Bible-Studies/Video-Download/c/N-1z13x3eZ1z13w4nZ1z13wgn My favorites that might be especially good for you now are: Believing God and Jesus the One and Only. I am going to be starting James soon. Hope that helps. Also - yes, you just need the member book and then if you are going to download the videos. Nothing else.
  25. Our 7 year old normally high energy miniature australian shepherd (full blood) has absolutely no symptoms other than yesterday morning when he got up he wouldn't eat. He is obsessed with eating and has never skipped a meal in his life. (We only feed him two meals a day and use the higher brands.) As the day went on his energy got less. By bedtime last night he was walking slowly. This morning he just looks at us pitifully and is walking very slowly. I have not seen any vomiting or diarrhea. There's no drooling. He did urinate outside last night before bed. We are clueless and don't know if this requires immediate help or not. If it was one of my kids I would think it was just a virus and would wait it out unless temps went up or there were other concerning symptoms. With a dog who won't eat and is having less and less energy in 24 hours...I just don't know. He's never been sick a day in his life that I am aware of. We gave him to our kids on Christmas morning 2005 and he is a beloved family dog. I just don't know if I need to take him to the Vet hospital who handles the local emergency care or we can at least wait to see our own vet tomorrow. Any clues? UPDATE: Sorry for the slow update. Thank you to all who helped! We did take him to the vet. By the time we got there I had a strong belief based on just some internet research that he had ehrliciosis.
