Kathryn
My 6yo is IN LOVE with the Chronicles of Narnia. We read the series in a month. He's currently rereading it himself, but we need something new for fun readaloud time. Any suggestions for a kid who loved Narnia? DH suggested Harry Potter, but neither of us actually know anything about it and I've read that it's more suited to older children.
ma23peas
The Princess & the Goblin by George MacDonald, he knew Lewis..great author! Dragonspell series or Dragon Rider (brendan Fraser does a great reading of this last one!)
KristenR
I was amazed at how eagerly my DD5 listened to my husband read The Hobbit. She loved it! We won't start the Lord of the Rings trilogy until later but she was able to follow along perfectly for the Hobbit.
Truscifi
We did The Hobbit at that age too. Ds enjoyed it although there were 2 sections I just summarized for him - they were a bit too intense.
Julie Smith
The Enchanted Forest series The first book is called, "Dealing with Dragons"
Cara in Ky
My middle son fell in love with Harry Potter at 6 years old. The books are different from the movies. Less intense. Over the last couple years he has enjoyed Hobbit, Narnia, and Magic Tree House too. I look forward to taking him to the library to check out some of the other posters' suggestions! Alice
Ds also loved The Hobbit around that age. The Edward Eager magic books (Half Magic, Knight's Castle, etc) Redwall (we read the first two recently and ds is loving them)
Kathryn
Thanks for all the ideas! I think we'll start with The Hobbit since I have it. I'll see what our library has of the others.
myfunnybunch
The Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander, starting with The Book of Three. It's a five-book series. And I second all of the other suggestions. :) We are so fortunate there are so many good books to read! Cat
thessa516
Another vote for The Hobbit. It's our current read-aloud. Everyone is enjoying it.
Jen in PA
Agreeing with the other suggestions, and adding the Oz books.
foxbridgeacademy
100 Cupboards is great! I even skipped ahead read the whole thing then bought the next two books in the series the next day. Very similar to Narnia. Children living here in present day travel to other "realms" to battle evil witch.

Rivka
We followed up the Narnia books with The Hobbit and then went on to the Children of Green Knowe series by L.M. Boston. It's an older series, and now, I think, mostly forgotten. The writing is absolutely beautiful.

Mrs. A
We read many of the Oz books and have been through several of the Redwall books already. DS can't get enough of them.
myfunnybunch
Children of Green Knowe series by L.M. Boston. It's an older series, and now, I think, mostly forgotten. The writing is absolutely beautiful. This is one of our all-time favorites. Love, love, love some of the passages, especially in the first two books. My middle son is named Tolly. (But it's not short for Toseland.) Cat
