  1. What websites do you find your used curriculums on? I have looked at craigslist, ebay, and amazon, but heard there was one particular website just for curriculums.
  2. Bumping up! My niece is having her's next weekend. So far I have been warned to not buy her a Bible, since Catholics have their own version, and told both Grandma's are buying jewelry. Looking forward to suggestions!:lurk5:
  3. If you have a dehydrator you can set out dried fruit. My kids love dried bananas and oranges. They also love frozen bananas (try it before you knock it- lol), homemade popsicles, slushies (slightly thaw a popsicle and add sprite), and trail mix with nuts, raisin, dried fruit, and m&m's.
  4. I like the mountain lion idea too. Sadly, when I told my kids you suggested a pet rock, their response was "a what?"
  5. After seeing another thread, we have decided to name our school and allow the kids to pick our mascot and school colors. Since they have all been in the public school system I thought this would be fun for them. I THINK I have decided on (disclaimer: I stole part of this name and the theme from another poster) 'Solid Rock Bible Academy' with Proverbs 22:6 as our school verse and 'Building faith and satisfying curiosity' as the theme. I would like to have several mascot options/suggestions ready for the kids but am drawing a blank. What do you think would flow with our school name/theme/verse?
  6. I had something similar and hate to tell you, but it took me longer than 3 weeks to fully recover. I was not allowed to lift anything heavier than a 1/2 gallon milk jug for the first 2 weeks and was on couch rest. It is amazing how you don't realize just how much movement involves your chest until something like this happens! Even after 4 weeks, it still hurt to lift heavy items and sometimes was sore by the end of the evening. At 6 weeks I am finally feeling normal again.
  7. I am looking for a math curriculum that is NOT parent led. Have you used Math-U-See or Sonlight's teaching textbooks? What are the pros/cons of their programs?
  8. I too have ADD (nonmedicated). My oldest has ADD (medicated on school days only) and my youngest has ADHD (nonmedicated). I have only been homeschooling for a short time, but my oldest was coming home with HOURS of homework each night from PS. Both of my children learn best with hands on activities. Papers with a lot of questions/problems on them are overwhelming. I do my best to give them worksheets that do not have the extra 'fluff' added. When it comes to reports that my oldest needs to do, he does best if I break it down to doing a little each day. When possible, if I see one of the kids really struggling with focus, we move onto something different and then come back to the initial task afterwards. On really bad days I purposefully act busy when he completes a task so that he can take 5 minutes to himself. I don't tell him I do this because in the past he would whine for breaks even though I knew he was fine. With my youngest, computer activities (and especially video games) overstimulate his brain and sets his hyperactivity off. I have avoided any computer guided learning for my kids for that reason, other than Math. For my youngest, he does math at the end of our day so that when he is finished he can go burn some energy. Good luck!
  9. I am homeschooling two of my children, but starting in a couple weeks will be homeschooling all four. The curriculum that I have includes all subjects except Math. For Math I would like a program online that teaches and records all of their test scores to make it easier on me. Ideas?
  10. My son is similar. He has ADHD. He is only allowed on the video games/computer once in a while because he goes nuts afterwards. When we have a transition I find it works best to give him a 15 and 5 minute warning before hand. When DS plays any sport we always talk with his coach to let him know the best way to handle DS. When he gets out of hand or starts not listening the coach has him run a lap. Once he gets some energy out, DS is usually fine. Many times the coaches doesn't do this until DS pushes them over the edge because they feel badly doing it. They always later say how well it worked and that they wish they had done it earlier. lol DS is always testing me and others. He just needs to see that we are going to be lovingly consistent as are the other adults in charge of him.
  11. I am sorry that you are having a flare-up. I think fibro (and similar dx) are hard to others to understand because they can't "see" the problems. Doesn't make it any less real to the rest of us, though.
  12. For those feeling guilty about de-cluttering, my kids and I participate in a yard sale once a year. We join in with a friend who's neighborhood does one large sale together each year. My children LOVE to participate. I allow them to choose what of their's stays and what goes. Usually what they take on Friday is a small load, but when they see the $$ they make friday, the load for Saturday's sale is always larger. Win win.
  13. Monday was my 4th graders first day of homeschool and today was my Kindergarteners first day of homeschool. I pulled my oldest out for issues similar to what you have going on with your children (among others). While I am only in my first week, I can tell you that I do not regret it. Because I am new to homeschooling, I am sort of relieved to have two kids to start out with before all four start at the end of this school year. What are your DH reasons for wanting them to finish the school year?
  14. I keep an emergency stock of paper goods, trash bags, and gatorade for weeks like yours! We did learn after one nasty stomach virus took us out that the 5 gallon buckets (from hardware store) lined with kitchen size trash bags can be your best friend. DH and I were too sick to clean buckets/bowls/trash cans/toilets everytime one of our (at the time 5) kids threw up. All 7 of us when down in a 36 hour period. We would just tie a knot in the bag, toss it out, and replace it. Hope you are all feeling better soon!
  15. I feel your pain! I did in home daycare for 7 years. The fexibilty it allows you with your own kids is wonderful. Hope you find another sweet little one soon.
