Kay in Cal
Dh made dinner tonight--macaroni with meat sauce. It was good, but I realized that I don't really like macaroni. Don't know why... it tastes the same and all, but it just isn't... as good. We generally have a multitude of pasta shapes in the pantry at any given time, and we all have different favorites: Dh likes macaroni, older ds likes rotini, younger ds likes spaghetti, and I prefer fettucine. So how about you? Do you have a favorite?
Camy-7 boybarians 1 lady
Hi, Kay! My favorite pasta shape takes me back to childhood memories of eating seashells and canned Chef Boyardee sauce. Yum..(in Homer Simpson voice)...comfort food. Blessings, Camy
Lisa in SC
I don't care for macaroni or spaghetti, but am fine with any other shape. I've never "met" anyone who felt the same. Most people think it's odd and amusing that I dislike certain pasta shapes. I don't have a favorite -- only the two that I prefer to avoid. Mrs Mungo
Hmm. I think it really depends on sort of dish I'm eating. Different sauces/dishes are better with different kinds of pasta. In general though I like the small pastas like ditali.
WTMindy
My dh has issues with certain pastas going with certain sauces and thou shalt not put spaghetti sauce on fetuccine or alfredo on macaroni. It's all the same to me, but I love the texture of the rotini. OK, I wouldn't turn down any pasta....ever.
Niffercoo
Rotini is my very favorite and has been since I was little. I also like the "bowtie" pasta. I'm not sure if there is a formal name for it though!
Jenny in Atl
Tortellini... Hands down. It has been years since I have had some. :(
Kay in Cal
Ah yes... I forgot stuffed pastas. I love tortellini too... though we generally end up buying the kind you get in packages at the grocery store.
*anj*
I agree that it depends on how the pasta is being served. But I think that my favorite shape is fusilli, the long kind, not the cut ones. It looks like this:
Marie in Oh
Bow Ties!
Tutor
Tortellini is my absolute favorite pasta, but of the non-filling ones you listed, I love Angel Hair with a light olive oil and garlic sauce (a couple shrimp tossed in for a treat is nice, too). Julie in CA
My favorite..... Any kind as long as it's covered with ALFREDO SAUCE!!:drool5: ETA: Lol about the "superhero shapes!"
Mamagistra
Hm...well, I can't pick just one! :tongue_smilie: Linguine, farfalle, and orzo are my true faves, I guess. Who else has pasta shaped like their state? Neener-neener!:lol:
Kay in Cal
Well... my dh is a comic book geek. How much? Well, about ten years ago now they sold Kraft mac n cheese in "superhero" shapes. It had lots of superhero shapes all mixed up, and dh had once lamented in passing that they didn't sell them individually so you could just buy your favorite hero. So as a birthday gift (funds were tight!) I bought 20 boxes or so and hand separated them by superhero. So he could eat Superman macaroni and cheese, or Flash macaroni and cheese, or Wonder Woman macaroni and cheese. It took hours and hours... but he loved it! Best gift for my dh under $15 ever! Vida Winter
what I actually mean is "thin spaghetti" - which is thicker than angel hair. I do not like regular sized spaghetti.
Suzanne in ABQ
I really love Rigatoni, the big tubes, with ridges to hold lots of sauce. I like Rotini, too, but it comes in second.
Karenciavo
But I think that my favorite shape is fusilli, A little ?
Karenciavo
I love chunky sauce and I love eating it with penne because the they hold sauce inside.
WTMindy
A little ? I can never hear the word fusili without thinking "fusili Jerry"!
JenneinCA
Butterfly (I think officially they are bow ties.)
Storm Bay
Fusilli. The brown rice fusilli made by Tynkyada, although I would think wheat fusilli would be just as great, were I to eat wheat. I just wish they were long like the picture I just saw of those long wheat ones. Mmmmm
Plaid Dad
It really depends on the dish, but my favorite pasta dish is angel hair with garlic and oil, a touch of spicy tomato sauce, and feta cheese. My second choice is a Lenten dish: angel hair with oil, garlic, mashed anchovies, and spicy breadcrumbs. My dd, however, would vote for mini penne, hands down, and I'm guessing my dw's vote would go to rotini. But we have typically have 8-10 different shapes of pasta in the pantry, from "soup macaroni" (little bitty shapes to cook in broth) to lasagna noodles. Can you tell that before she became Mrs. Plaid, my dw's last name was an Italian one? :) I am one lucky man.

sadiegirl
I hate macaroni pasta!!! It definitely has a different taste and it is a crime to put it with anything but cheese. We like angel hair, fettuccini, bow-tie, ziti and anything squiggly to soak up the sauce!!

Guest Teresa in the South
It definitely depends on the sauce/dish. I chose macaroni because I love macaroni and cheese; it's such great comfort food. But it has to be the fat macaroni, not the little bitty kind. I also like gnocchi and cavatelli; probably because I never fix them at home, so I consider them special Italian restaurant fare.
