She will be in Classical Conversations Foundations and Essentials: Foundations covers US history, science(anatomy, life science), geography, music, art, and memory work for history, Latin, grammar, science, state capitals, presidents. Essentials will use IEW for her writing and a grammar program for grammar. Science - Free curriculum listed here the other day for life science, plus CGC student notebooking sheets, living books, Media Angels unit studies, and a physical science (experiments) co-op starting back up in the fall. Bible - Christian Liberty Press, starting with Book E. Also reading in the actual Bible as well as a Bible Story Book. Reading - Real literature for history and monthly book club. Handwriting - Dictation of Bible memory verses, memory work, and daily journal. Also Getty-Dubay Italics, as soon as we can obtain Book B. Typing - Weekly email pen pal, and monthly (or so) list of all Bible verses learned or some other such memory work. Great Composers study. Amy loves Bud Posted May 15, 2008 Share Posted May 15, 2008 Here is what we are finishing up this year with DS9: Bible study using My FAther's World Rome to Reformation MathUSee - finished Delta, about 1/3 way into Epsilon Latina Christiana I Growing with Grammar 4 Writing Tales 1 Spelling Power (he's on level F, but that's neither here nor there with this program) Lots of literature for both independent reading and read alouds - we used some Veritas Press guides which were quite good History - used some My Father's World - Rome to Ref up through the Middle Ages, but now we're just reading SOTW2, narrating, and reading accompanying literature for it Science - did the human body portion of MFW, but we've previously done Apologia Astronomy, so we've been doing random reading and experiements this semester Occasional art and music/apprecaition, but not as consistent as I would like - we'll be changing that in 5th Soccer Have fun planning! JudoMom Posted May 15, 2008 Share Posted May 15, 2008 Here are our rough plans: Latin: Finish LfCA, start LfCB Math: Saxon 6/5, continue with Singapore CWP 3 Language Arts: restart Classical Writing Aesop A, R&S (3 or 4, I'm not sure yet), Spelling Workout D, Dictation Greek: Song School Greek History: Finish SOTW 3, start 4. We're also going to study States, Presidents, & Geography but I don't have a plan yet. Memory Work: I plan on using The Harp and Laurel Wreath for poetry memorization. Science: Nothing formal planned at this point--if I decide to do something formal it will be Real Science 4 Kids. We'll continue with Piano and Judo. I also hope to do more discussing of literature this year. I plan to have my older 2 and myself read the same things (I have Anderson's Fairy Tales, Tales from Shakespeare, A Wonder Book, and Tanglewood Tales in mind). Second grade dd: Language Arts: continued practice w/ advanced code phonics, penmanship, and FLL. Math: memorization of addition and subtraction mathfacts. Counting skills to 200 as well as skip counting (listening to an audio tape daily to reinforce this skill). She will also assist me more in the kitchen, interpreting recipe measurements. History: SOTW Ancient History with narration exercises. Science: Nothing formal, but weekly viewing of various videos from our library as well as different books. Art: free use of paints and other drawing mediums along with plenty of white paper. Bible: Family devotions featuring Starr Meade's "Training Hearts, Teaching Minds." (this is for catechism memory). Fourth Grade ds: Language Arts: McGuffey Readers (read aloud skills, penmanship, copywork/dication, narration) and FLL (with his sister). Math: Memorization of mathfacts as well as R&S 3 (I keep him a year behind in math). Cooking w/ mom, just like sister as well. History (same as his sister) Science (same as sister) Art (same as sister) Bible (same as sister) I also read aloud to my grammar stage children each day before our quiet time. We are reading through the Little House Series. Both my 2nd and 4th grader also sit in on family read alouds. Right now we are reading The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom. They are enjoying it very much. Chore training will be another implementation into their learning. My older boys will be attending 1/2 day high school this fall, so the chores will need to be passed down to the younger ones. We need to work on daily training in that area. Another desire that I have is to do a study based on the Voice of the Martyrs free newsletter to strike up their knowledge of world populations. That is all I can think of for now. We have been using Singapore math (took a break from R&S) but I'm not sure if we'll continue with Singapore or transition back to R&S. We are definitely wanting to pick up the pace a bit but I just have no idea which direction we are going to take. Seeing all these plans has definitely helped! I would like to add a Christian perspective to History . History: MFW includes SOTW 2 in their "Rome to Reformation" package, so that takes care of that question. ;) Science: MFW does a semester study of the human body, and then a semester study of astronomy using the Apologia elementary book. I know that in Alamagordo, NM there's a space museum that you could visit en route to the Grand Canyon (well, I guess it depends on what direction you're coming from!), but I'm sure there's others in between, too. You could do a google for space and astronomy museums, or check the websites of different cities that you'll pass through. Most city websites have tourist and sight-seeing information on them. Literature: This would be included in MFW, as well. Bible: Also included in MFW, but I have a secret. I have the VP Bible cards for Acts and the Apostles (which are studied in MFW Rome to Reformation), and the VP history cards for Middle Ages/Renaissance... just because they're beautiful and have good information on them. A lot of the same resources are used in VP as in MFW (such as Victor Journey through the Bible, for example), so they can work together very nicely. Note: If you're going to do SOTW 2 for history -- whether or not you do it as part of MFW -- the Bible topics that would be go along with the time period would be the birth and life of Christ, Acts and the Apostles, and the early church.
