I am thinking about purchasing the whole set for my 13yo, 8th gr., daughter, (and up in coming kids.) I would like to know how many of the books we would/could go through in a school year's time if we did it 5days a week? Also, are there questions at the end of the chapters, tests, etc? Is there a study guide or lesson plan to follow? Could it be something she can read on her own or is something I have to do with her? I already have the History of US miniseries on DVD, do these correlate w/the books? Thanks in advance :)

My daughter has been using GWG for a few years now. She's basically got the routine down, but I wonder about retention. I am thinking of switching it up for her just so that she could try something different and make her think a little. I know that R&S is very different, (as in English and not just grammar,) and much more advanced, but I don't want to plague her with unnecessary work either. She is an average learner and wants to go to the local Christian school for high school, like her older sister has done. The 9th grade English class there is TOUGH; and I worry about how she will do in it. (My other daughter, going in 10th grade this next school year, is advanced and everything comes easy to her.) Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

If so, do it work well and was it worth the money spent? Thanks in advance.

I received a brochure in the mail for this online school. It is not Christian-based from what I can tell, but offers a free classical online education, along with a foreign language for any grade, and comes with a laptop for each child. I know that K12 offers this too, but the friends of mine who used it, hated it. I am just wondering if anyone knows about this or has used it before? Here is the website: http://www.mercuryed.com

Let me start this off by saying that my first three children (22, 14, & 12) were fast learners. They were/are homeschooled and never had a problem. My 7yo son is having the hardest time! We repeated kindergarten last year, and now he's in 1st grade. We are on ETC 1-1/2 and each page is a struggle. Three letter, short vowel words are hard for him. He knows all his letter sounds and can say blends quickly, (ba, de, ti, etc). But when it comes to three letters, he can barely read them! Math is another problem. We did Right Start and he progressed slowly. This year we switched to CLE Light Units for 1st grade. And he is now struggling with that. I guess I need to switch back to RS. I don't know what to do! He is so smart and quick, just like a normal kid. He is not slow in the least bit. No delays at all. But when it comes to school, he can't do it. I am so tempted to put him in public school so that they can get him reading and doing math. I feel like a failure right now.

Abeka K for phonics. What is necessary, what is not?

We've been using Growing With Grammar for a few years now, and I'm starting to think that it isn't enough English. We also do Souring With Spelling and CLE's reading. (I haven't decided on which writing program we will use.) I'm wondering if I should stick with this, or do I need to add more. Or maybe I should scrap this and go with a program that encompasses it all. I will keep the CLE reading, if I do that though. Any suggestions?
