Tanya in KS
My husband's company has given us a romantic getaway to Vegas for 3 days/3 nights. Anyone been there recently? We are NOT gamblers...and desire maybe to take in a show or two.... We leave in 10 days. Thanks for the insight.
Slartibartfast
I have never been to vegas but I think a lot of famous chefs have restaurants there. Bobby Flay has a restaurant there as does Mario Batali.
NicksMama-Zack's Mama Too
My husband's company has given us a romantic getaway to Vegas for 3 days/3 nights. Anyone been there recently? We are NOT gamblers...and desire maybe to take in a show or two.... We leave in 10 days. Thanks for the insight. Go see some shows! Spend the daytime in the hotel room relaxing or by the pool and take in the shows at night. Hang around the Bellaggio and watch the amazing fountain show. We try to go every couple of years as it is a fairly cheap getaway for us. We are not gamblers, but like to people watch and enjoy the sights and food. Veritaserum
We really enjoyed KA at the MGM (where we stayed). Dh said the Penn&Teller show at the Rio was really good.
blakereese
There is SO MUCH to do there, you don't have to gamble at all. We go very often b/c my dad lives there, and I hate to gamble. I would rather spend the money and actually have something in my hand, lol. Definitely go to a show. I would recommend a Cirque Du Soleil show, there are several in Vegas, but it really depends on your interests. My favorite Cirque show is probably O at the Bellagio, but I also enjoyed Ka at the MGM and Love (the Beatles) at the Mirage. They are really amazing, and worth the ticket prices. You can often get discount tickets the day of the show, or at least good seats that were held back until the last day. There are also fabulous restaurants in every price tier. What kind of food do you like? Oh, and where are you staying? I can give you more specific recommendations if you like. Is there anything included in the trip? We always rent a car when we go there so I tend to recommend things all over town ;) but if you won't have a car I can try to keep you in one area. Also, if you will have a car you could go to the Hoover Dam, if that is interesting to you. I know it may not be your first choice of destinations, but I hope you enjoy your romantic getaway. :) I'm jealous. :D
Murmer
Walk the strip, go to fremont street, consider riding some of the roller coasters, spend a day watching circus acts at Circus Circus, watch the volcano, there is an aquarium on the strip, there is the M&M store, hang out by the pool, check out the excaliber dinner show. My family has been taking us to Las Vegas since I was in High School and found lots of things to do that were super fun. Basically every hotel has some gimmick to get you in, check out the gimmick. HollyB
Red Rock Canyon is nearby. It's a beautiful area. Make sure you see the fountains at the Bellagio and the Chihuly glass installation in the lobby.
CAMom
I can't count how many times I've been to Vegas including 3 times since November.:) Like the others said, there's a lot to do there. My dh and I have fun shopping together. There is a nice mall center strip across from Wynn. There are also great outlet centers on either end of town. There's The Forum Shops at Caesar's and at Planet Hollywood. We saw George Wallace at the Flamingo recently and he was funny. The language was mild. It's still fairly cool there so reading by the pool is a good option but it may be too chilly to swim. We went to Bobby Flay's restaurant (Mesa Grill) in Caesar's in November. The food is delicious! You could go to Paris and take the trip to the top of the Eiffel Tower. It's a beautiful view in the evening and you can see the water show at the Bellagio from up there. Someone recommended Penn and Teller. We saw that show last spring and it's probably my least favorite show I've ever seen in Vegas. There is a ton to do there without gambling.:)
NancyNellen
It was one of our favorite vacations and we never went into the actual casinos! The food is AH-MAY-ZING! Mesa Grill (Bobby Flay) is wonderful. Also, Bouchon (Thomas Keller- in the Venitian) is to die for. While at the Venetian definitely go for a gondola ride. We saw Cirque de Soleil, and thoroughly enjoyed the Art Museum in the Bellagio. There was a fantastic Monet exhibit there when we visited. We did the spa, had a massage, and laid out by the pool. It was really, really wonderful :-)

fairytalemama
I went for work a few years back and we did a small plane tour of the Grand Canyon that was pretty awesome. I don't know if you are spa people, but some of the greatest spas ever are in Vegas. Go get a massage or a facial. Lay by the pool. You could always get your vows renewed by Elvis...now that would be memorable. :001_smile:
mdmurray
I live in Vegas. We moved here 6 years ago and have never gambled. Some great local sites: Bellagio, the conservatory is beautiful and they have an art museum. Red Rock Canyon, nature at it's finest. Hoover Dam, they do tours. Mt. Charleston, winter sports. MGM Grand, has the CSI Experience. My daughters and I LOVE strolling through Paris and the view from the top of the tower is fantastic (be sure to go at night). They also have the best buffet for the money on the strip.
NicksMama-Zack's Mama Too
We are staying at New York, New York. No car... We never get a car (not in our budget), but there is still plenty to do right on the strip. There is a bus line that runs up and down the strip all day. CAMom
We are staying at New York, New York. No car... That's near the south end of the strip across the street from the MGM. You can get a cab anywhere in the city. Just walk out of the front of your hotel and they'll get you one. There is also a monorail that runs up and down the strip. You can pick it up at the MGM and get anywhere.:)
LibraryLover
I'm giggling. You have 3 days to have hotel sex without kids in the next room, sleep, have hotel sex without kids in the next room, get some good food, sleep, and have hotel sex without kids in the next room. Maybe you have more opportunities to get away together than we have? I would so be all over the hotel sex, sleep, and food I don't have to cook. I would be shopping for cute bras. OK, I am a orewhay. ;) Edited February 12, 2011 by LibraryLover
mcconnellboys
Go out to Red Rock Canyon; visit Hoover Dam; for a day trip, go out to Valley of Fire or Death Valley. There are lots of places to go see beautiful nature!
elfgivas
you can take a gondola ride in Venice, see the dolphins and tigers at Circus, Circus, go to the mardi gras parade, watch them feed the penguins at one of the hotels (i can't remember which one), eat in paris, eat in italy, watch the fountains dance to the music, look at the art, swim.... have fun, ann
tadah
I'd like to second the recommendation for Red Rock Canyon. Other people like it too, according to tripadvisor: http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g45963-d103329-r58900591-Red_Rock_Canyon_National_Conservation_Area-Las_Vegas_Nevada.html Have a great trip! Desert Rat
We live in Vegas. If you have specific questions, PM me and I'd be happy to help. A word of warning-Walk the strip and go to Fremont Street but do NOT walk to Fremont Street. That's one of the roughest neighborhoods here. It's worth the money to take a cab. All the shows are awesome-Blue Man, all the Cirques, etc. But they can be super spendy. Just walking through the casinos is amazing. Here are a few of my favorites: Venetian (canal rides, fancy shops), Bellagio, Mandalay Bay (which has an amazing aquarium BTW), Caesar's Palace (the forum shops are cool with little shows throughout and great shops). Have fun here! I never go down to the strip unless relatives/friends are visiting. LOL But you'll have lots of fun even without the gambling.
