I started this diet 6 months ago after watching the movie and then reading Preventing and Reversing Heart Disease. Just this last week I got results from my blood work 6 months out: Total Cholesterol 200 down to 145 LDL 104 down to 77 Weight loss: 38.6 pounds One of the B.E.S.T. Cookbook for this diet is Happy Herbivore www.happyherbivore.com Her recipes are all very flavorful, low in fat and seriously, if you never knew that there were beans in the butter beans cookies or the chocolate mug cake is no fat vegan...well, if you never knew, you would never know.

When do you stop putting your kids to bed?
mdmurray replied to Plucky's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I rocked both my girls to sleep for naps and at night until they were old enough to say "I'm ready for bed." I still sit with my 12 year old until she falls asleep and I almost always sit and talk with my 16 year old unless she is tired and goes to sleep before her sister is asleep. We have some of our best conversations curled up on her bed right before sleep. -

Vegetarians... I think dd needs more protein?
mdmurray replied to Unicorn.'s topic in General Education Discussion Board
I switched to a 100% plant-based diet (vegan) in September. There are many benefits to such a diet. I am now reading The China Study by T. Collin Campbell, PhD. You might want to get a copy of it from your library. The reason that I say this is that his research over many years shows that we don't need as much protein as we have been convinced we do. Also, if she only recently went on Vegetarian diet, her body is probably doing a mini-detox which can be a bit not fun. -
I always wanted a daughter. My mom and I were and still are close and I wanted that mother/daughter relationship for myself. My first born is a girl. When I got pregnant 4 years later I wanted another daughter...I never had a sister so thought my daughter should. I TOLD people I was ok with having a boy since I had one girl but I really, really wanted another girl. And, that is what I got. I guess I am the exception to your rule. :001_smile:

Planning/Organizational Software
mdmurray replied to Homeschoolnewbe's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I pick and choose which forms I need to work for me and primarily use the homeschool planners. However, I think she has a chore chart generator. Not sure about the household planner...I've never been that organized :001_unsure: I would think that others here might have more experience with all that is offered. -

I ran into a similar situation at our library. The "story times" were for 5 to 10 year olds and my dd was too mature for the "baby" stories and activities. I spoke with my librarians, who are awesome, and in time they started doing activities for 8 to 10 year olds. I was thrilled that they let 11 year olds participate in "teen" events. These are more on her level and I just have to monitor subject matter of books for book clubs as some are too intense for her, but those will probably be too intense when she is 18 as well.

My Mom summers in Alaska and we spent the first two weeks of July there 5 years ago. I would go back in a heartbeat. Vast change from the deserts of Las Vegas. I'm just not sure I'm strong enough for the winters. My dream world would be Alaska in the Summer and southwest in the Winter, like my mom does.

Question about "modesty" and ballet
mdmurray replied to Homeschooling Again's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I have raised my daughters with modesty guidelines, no low cut tops, tops and pants meet, no short shorts nor short skirts unless leggings are underneath and no see through. That said, my youngest does ballet and I have to agree with pp on the context being crucial. That said, we live in Las Vegas (the city that knows no modesty) and a friend's young (9 or 10) daughter was appalled at the statue of David in one of the casinos being completely naked. She insisted that they contact the management to request BVD's for David. :001_huh::smilielol5: Mom and Dad had to do a quick "art" lesson. -
The word "frick'in"
mdmurray replied to Jean in Newcastle's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Seriously one of my pet peeves, but I cannot get my DH to agree so his use of language persists, he uses this word and the "real" one way more than I care to hear. -
I have two creative, non-mathy, non-science, literature loving daughters...we love LOF as stand alone.
