gandpsmommy
I used to read magazines while using stair steppers in college. I used to read books while using my legs/feet only on an elliptical trainer. But is it possible to read while running?
lynn
I would say no. Sounds dangerous.
Stacie
It depends. I can, but I'm very coordinated. My dh is not and has had two sprained ankles trying to read and run. He has the mindset of "if you can do it I should be able to"... and it's just not working out in his favor! ;) I'd opt for an iPod and audio books, just to be safe. Parrothead
I've done it while running on a treadmill and while walkng a track.
HollyDay
I can walk and read, but not run and read. I can watch TV and run or listen to a music cd. I cannot listen to an audio book and run though.
lulubelle
No. If you want a good workout. And, that goes for elliptical or stair stepper too. The only thing you can do and get a good workout is watch t.v. You can not focus on a book and maintain a constant cardio workout - imo. Strawberry Queen
I can't.:glare: But I think it's just that I can't track the text. It moves too much.:D Now I used my new MP3 player yesterday and it is just tickety boo. I tried the stereo but I had to have it really loud to go above the noise of the treadmill. (it's an old one)
gandpsmommy
No. If you want a good workout. And, that goes for elliptical or stair stepper too. The only thing you can do and get a good workout is watch t.v. You can not focus on a book and maintain a constant cardio workout - imo. I don't know about that. I was in pretty good shape when I would do the legwork on my elliptical trainer for 45 minutes to an hour every morning while reading a book. LadyAberlin
I couldn't do it, but then I've tried watching TV and using and exercise bike and I would realize after a while that I was no longer pedaling LOL. I'm not the best at multi tasking.
gandpsmommy
I'm thinking it would probably be too hard to run and read at the same time. I guess I should invest in an MP3 player.
Granny_Weatherwax
I have tried it. I can walk on a tread mill and read but once I hit the jog stage, about 4 mph, I bounce up and down too much to follow the words. I even tried a large print edition to see if that would help, it didn't. So chalk me up for the Can't do it category.
Crissy
These days it gives me a headache to try reading while I'm on the treadmill. It is too hard to focus while I'm moving.
6packofun
Not for me! The sweat produced while I run is not conducive to having paper products nearby. lol I also like to look forward and not down so the book/magazine is usually not in a good position for me to keep my eyes on it. AuntieM
I can read while I walk on a treadmill, but not while I run. I have a hard time staying fixed on the words as I trot. If I work at focusing hard enough, I get off pace with the running. Last time I tried I had a scare but managed to make a quick save before going off the treadmill sideways. Guess I am not as coordinated as some of you ladies!
elise1mds
I can do it, but only if the font is big enough. :D
AngieW in Texas
I can't go any faster than 4.0 and still read. I think I could if I had a Kindle, just because I could leave the Kindle sitting on the treadmill shelf so it wouldn't bounce around. Ferdie
I don't know about that. I was in pretty good shape when I would do the legwork on my elliptical trainer for 45 minutes to an hour every morning while reading a book. Ditto. I wear a heart monitor while working out on an eliptical. I am able to maintain target heart rate while reading. However, I don't read while doing interval training on the eliptical. Robin M
Tried it and have to say no. Too much movement to concentrate on book. Easier to watch tv.
Melissa in Australia
I can read while riding the exercise bike. but I have never tried a treadmill at all, so couldn't say.
