1bassoon
Anyone read this book? I was reading an article tonight that said that Greg Mortensen was another nominee for the Nobel. Read the book last year, and was very impressed and moved by his mission. I hadn't realized he had been nominated.
Beth in OH
Read the book, and heard Greg Mortensen speak last Saturday night at Ohio State University. He would have been an outstanding choice for the Nobel Peace Prize. I love people who change the world in an unassuming way just because it's the right thing to do. Kate in Arabia
I admire his efforts, and would be happy that he won any prize for that (and more support for his cause), however I did not find the book very engaging. This was not because of the subject, but the writing style.

Amira
I admire his efforts, and would be happy that he won any prize for that (and more support for his cause), however I did not find the book very engaging. This was not because of the subject, but the writing style. Totally agree. FWIW, I recently read the youth edition of this book, and while it was obviously written for children, it told the same story and skipped most of the clunky writing. I think Mortenson's story is very worth reading, and the youth edition is infinitely easier to get through.
Heather in Neverland
I loved the book and I think he is a perfect example of someone who actually did something significant to deserve the Nobel Peace Prize. His story is amazing.
Danestress
The writing actually made me cringe at times - there were some pretty bad spots. BUT it was an interesting story and worth reading.
Quiver0f10
I never heard of it until yesterday when he was mentioned in the Nobel thread. I definitely want to read it.
K&Rs Mom
I read it recently and was just amazed at all he went through, all in pursuit of helping others, and against the grain in a lot of ways. Totally what the Nobel peace prize is about, IMO - creating a more peaceful world as a byproduct of helping people who need it.

dangermom
I enjoyed the story very much, but it's certainly true that the writing bogged down in places. I didn't need to know all about his first girlfriend. Very inspiring story, and I think he's a great person.

smrtmama
I love Greg Mortenson and I'm hoping to get a Pennies for Peace project set up in our homeschool co-op group.
Carol in Cal.
I liked the whole picture of the guy that the book presented--the good, the not so good, the ugly, the changes, the conclusions, the growth--everything. I felt like I was getting closer to the truth than in most biographies.
rwjx2khsmj
I loved the book and the story it told. I felt like I knew Greg when I finished and I was very thankful to have had the opportunity. I also love the concept of three cups of tea. Too often I'm in a rush and don't slow down enough to pay attention to what's really important. mcconnellboys
He should have won it years ago - but I guess that would be too novel, to actually give the award (and money) to someone who more than deserves it..... Talk about bridging gaps with the Muslim world, probably no one on earth has done that better than "Dr. Greg"....
Margo out of lurking
I loved the book and I think he is a perfect example of someone who actually did something significant to deserve the Nobel Peace Prize. His story is amazing. :iagree: I felt it turned a little political at the end, but overall it was an excellent book. ..."for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples" Yep, sounds like Greg Mortenson!
