  1. Hi, I don't know if this applies because you listed a lot of things I am not familiar with... but I will offer this up. I use the Kindle app on my 6 y/o macbook pro. Last fall, all of a sudden, new kindle book purchases didn't download to my laptop. After going thru a few people at Amazon, we figured out that my operating system (10.6.8 snow leopard) is too outdated for updates. I still have, and can read all I purchased up to that final update that pushed me out... but purchases after that, I have to log into Amazon, and read on their cloud reader. Or I need to purchase something more updated. All purchases, before and after, are all listed so I haven't lost anything.
  2. Such good news! Would monthly rental through airbnb work better for you? (Just a thought, if not, carry on...)
  3. Thoughts and prayers for you Catwoman and your dh and ds and the donor family. Hopefully you are either at his bedside, or getting much needed rest, maybe even both at the same time. :grouphug:
  4. Ugh. If its a bad set up put "bail" at least in options. It might be fine, if in a well established funeral home and/or a national chain. Its a valid question to ask how you will know they will still be in business 10, 15, etc. years from now. My dad died with no arrangements, it wasn't difficult to handle, I flew in, in under a week cremation, a niche (a national cemetery since he served in military services when younger) and a service were arranged. I would think the most important thing for you would be available funds and flexibility. Also, knowing the person's general wishes to where their remains would be and whether cremation or casket. I've also heard that Costco is way more affordable for caskets but I have no idea how the actual implementation of that would work... and any time I mention this I get terrible looks... but it is very traditional here.
  5. Check the local hospital and see what plans they do accept. Also, ask specifically if they accept the marketplace plans in your state, if so, which ones. You may get passed around to different people, but someone there knows what plans they accept. When you know which plans, then check and see if any are available on the marketplace, and if you qualify for a subsidy to cover some/all of the premiums.
  6. Oh dear..... that is dh.... and I did every single bit of 17 years of homeschooling.... I will ramble and maybe something will help... He would say "have you thought about teaching...." several years after we had done it... He seems to want to know what to do and follow it, rather than come up with it himself, so maybe find people here, or on a blog, or book (WTM ;) ), that show where you wish to end up in your schooling, then follow a lot of their recommendations. Definitely take into account your kids temperaments, mine are both NFJs (one ambivert, one I). INFP can be quite idealistic and, for us, a detached/distracted temperament, but I feel it can be very beautiful and deep as well. Causes, humanitarian, creative and such, and motives (but don't get carried away) can be very motivating in learning. If your kids are creative, it would be a great gift to have your creativeness in your schooling. I am ISFP, the fear of ruining my dc kept a fire under me to do what I felt was needed. I used state/college requirements as classes needed goals (before high school it was to prepare to be able to take those classes), added things that were important to me to pass on to them, also it was important for them to have "breathing" room while they were learning, room to accept new information, think about it, apply it, etc. rather than always cramming facts, in other words, time to process. So *how* we schooled was important to me. HTH and best wishes.
  7. If you don't convert folic acid to the usable form, then any amount isn't good. Folate is what your body can use without converting. If you google "don't convert folic acid" many articles will come up.
  8. The chart recommends very high free T3.... For some, that would be "can't peel me off the ceiling hyped." And on natural thyroid, that number fluctuates drastically, depending on the last dose timing. Also, natural thyroid doesn't "last" as long as synthetic, so splitting the dose might be necessary. That might explain getting tired mid-day.
  9. I am GF and the substitutes are very carb heavy, with little/no fat, and little/no protein. They are junk. That can cause problems. I also can't have dairy.... Dd is same and at college. We make a lot of smoothies, and eat tons of sweet potatoes. Her college literally has no food for her, she has to take her food, she makes a huge smoothie, usually a whole sweet potato, protein powder (Garden of Life), banana, almond butter, almond milk, etc.
  10. Keep in mind a large percentage of college grads can't find a job that pays enough to support them. That is our reality, and I am glad I bought the larger home 11 years ago. We would be too crowded in the smaller house.
  11. A month without a frig, how awful. When mine died last year, we went a week in 90 degree temps. and two trips a day for ice. Is there any chance your frig is a Samsung? I've had more than one salesperson tell me to not get one because no one in our area repairs them. We are not in a large city. My only idea is maybe get your money back and go shopping, except that the 7th is pretty close and I'm not sure you will get anything else any sooner. Our situation was made worse by the first order at one big box store never being processed, so make sure your order is in the system. We waited a week only to find out it wasn't coming at all. Luckily big box store #2 had one and brought it the next day. I chose a Whirlpool, and used their warranty. It did take a week for them to come, but it was working, just making noises, which were fixed by replacing a defective part.
  12. I have open shelving in my laundry room/pantry that I can get a load of hanging clothes drying on. One shelf runs the length of the closet about a foot from the ceiling so it can accommodate jeans/pants, the other is above the washer and dryer, high enough that shirts can hang from. I dry clothes first, then remove hot and wet. I am the great escape artist of ironing. If I run out of room, I put hangers on door frames all throughout the house, clear space in closets to finish drying, put drying racks in living area along walls, or all of the above.
  13. I have heard (but not tried) B12 helps shingles. Since it can't hurt anyone, it may not hurt to try. This is the one we take, I am posting the high dose one, and using it as a sublingual gives you a higher potency: http://www.amazon.com/Natural-Factors-Vitamin-Methylcobalamin-60-Count/dp/B001ECXHZI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1446931460&sr=8-1&keywords=natural+factors+B12 If you brand swap, be sure it is the Methylcobalalmin form.
  14. Did you use the dairy or nondairy options? I would have to use palm shortening and coconut milk and would love to hear results of those!
  15. :bigear: I have boxes too... I am searching for what to do. The only idea that is kind of sticking with me is to pick from the photos and make one album (maybe 2) rather than many, many of every photo taken. Kind of a summary of everything with best pictures/moments. My default is to get albums with pockets for pics, and just put them in date order. I would need several. And... the several albums I have already done are not acid free.
  16. My information is dated, that has happened to us, I appealed, and it was paid as in network. Our doctor and the hospital were in network, and I argued that we had no control over who came to treat. I do see plans now that say no matter what, out of network is not covered... but not all insurance companies are like this. That was a huge deciding factor in picking our insurance.
  17. "This is over" equals pain and suffering, and you should be given a settlement for that. I was told 2-1/2 to 3 times the total of all costs is a fair amount. Good luck and hope it works out in your favor.
  18. Well your post was an astounding "NO!!!" on your part, with every fiber of your being. I can't tell you how many I know who gave up a good life for that one.extra.step.up.the.career.ladder. Unless you are struggling financially, you have what most dream of having. I wouldn't give it up, that's for sure. It seems your dh is happy now, would he want to risk that? Or losing the new job, after leaving one that he loved and probably burned the bridge to come back. And all the upheaval. Ugh. Very big no from me.
  19. We love it there! http://www.oldsalem.org/
  20. **double post** helping to get replies to the other duplicate thread
  21. :grouphug: So sad to hear this Faithe. I don't have specific advice, but I do agree it is too much for you. Definitely nose around via the phone to see what options you have, home and other.
  22. I know you need a job.... I just want to make sure you know about living near a paper mill. I can't even stand to drive through where they are, it really, really stinks. Like turn the a/c off in your car even if its over 100 stink...
  23. Thanks again! I purchased the faucet I linked above, and so far, I like it! I got one handle, and its great. It is well below the window sill and the handle faces forward, which works well. I did measure three possibilities at the store, and the one I got measured the highest spigot placement. Installed, it is SO much easier to wash dishes, so heartlikealion, I agree, higher is better. I don't get the goose neck high curve, low spigot either... the low arch one, along with higher spigot, will make washing pans and baking sheets much easier. Now to figure out how to fix the laminate behind the sink...

I'm going through material by Brene Brown and am learning a lot. Her TED talks on vulnerability and shame are very good. I'm also working through her blog (her name dot com). Much food for thought. Before you think it can't be those two items… perfectionism, fear, etc. can do show up at times as anxiety, and can come from one who is based in shame and/or is uncomfortable with vulnerability. If he is overwhelmed, maybe you both could see if any changes could bring relief? Maybe a vacation would help? Dh works from home as well…. we don't take enough vacations. Last summer I realized its been around a decade since our family had gone anywhere for at least a week. We went on a nice vacation, it helped, but we need a few more to catch up, lol. All work and no play is just no good. You lose perspective. We did lose a week of pay, but we usually can time a get away when business is slower. Most clients will understand needing family/vacation time. Best wishes.
