  1. I have this tab open, it looks like its there, but I haven't had a chance to watch it, got it from google: http://stream1.moviecpa.in/play.php?movie=4257858
  2. That has answered if the return will be there after Oct. So $13 is to access, which could include amending? If I pay the $6.99 before Oct. then do I still have to pay the $13 to access returns older than six months? Thanks!
  3. Have you had to amend a return using Tax Act? And thanks for all the information.
  4. OK LucyStoner, so online TT includes storage (how long?) and ability to amend for free? Anyone out there that can compare CD and online versions of Turbo Tax? Thanks! Adding: The reason I didn't use Turbo Tax online was after this progression 1) the CD didn't work on my computer 2) then I found out Schedule C was not on Deluxe version anymore, so I thought I had to use Home and Business, which is quite expensive 3) then I found out that TT online Deluxe does have Schedule C, which would have been an option, but I already did our return in Tax Act. I will say Turbo Tax quickly refunded my money, I did have to pay to send the CD to them.
  5. I've always used Turbo Tax CD, but I can't any more because I'm using an older OS (TT CD no longer supports snow leopard). So I would have had to go online with TT. H & R is still in the running for next year, as of this year, it supports my OS. The only downfall is that it is considerably more expensive, in price, and in e-file price for state. I had to amend three returns, and it was quite easy with TT and the returns all on my computer. I sure hope I don't have to amend this year's, that is the one negative with Tax Act, you have to pay to amend. And I do need to access the return through Jan. 15, 2015 for estimated pay, I sure hope it lets me, we have varied income, so I have to figure it as we go. It was never a problem w/TT, it even helped with telling me what amount was due. I did see the same prompts in Tax Act with the "worksheet" method, so I will be fine as long as I can access it. I will pay the storage fee, I'm too far in to back out now as I had to purchase Tax Act to see pdf's of what I was doing, it drove me mad to not be able to see the forms. Lanny, the way I saved the returns was to act like I was going to print, then saved it as a pdf.
  6. Thanks to those who recommended Tax Act. It even found another way to figure state tax that saved us money. But as I was filing, up comes the option to buy three years of storage for $6.99 (which isn't much, but it should be included in the price IMHO) or access and/or return goes away Oct. 2015. That isn't even enough time to do estimated pay in January '16. Do any of you buy the access? It still puts the price under $30, and included e-files for federal and state, so its still a deal. But I will admit, I like doing taxes on my desktop much better, full access, easy to amend returns, and no further charges. I also hear to amend a return in Tax Act is $13 per return. All these add ons.....
  7. We did this tonight!! I did add a little ketchup. YUM!! and thanks!
  8. Does your current home have two full bathrooms? That one and a half bath would be a deal breaker for me. Even if I were an empty nester!! You still have kids at home, and when they move out, they will visit, overnight if they move away. I would be tempted to put renters in the smaller one for a few more years, then revisit the issue.
  9. What type of vacation are you envisioning? Those I know who have gone there have just gone back and forth from the beach to the rental (house w/few other families), cooked their own food, in other words, a very low key, not a lot of other things to do vacation. There isn't a lot there. Beaufort and Charleston are commutable from there, but not super close.
  10. They asked how much college expenses, well, don't know yet (so put last year's). How much taxes... (self employed), last year's. Because, although I tried, heaven and earth made sure I couldn't get the taxes finished this weekend. Turbo Tax didn't work on my OS any longer, so I'm trying TaxAct, which is very different and I'm on a learning curve. Forms I thought had come hadn't... I really liked the set up I had before and it wasn't the weekend to pull the rug out from under me. Turbo Tax on your computer lets you see the forms in progress, so I used those to estimate FAFSA. Unless TT online lets you do that, that is over... With FAFSA finished, I have time to figure it all out. BLEH
  11. I'm needing to estimate income for FAFSA that is due tomorrow for dd's college. I am on the site now, and it wants every entry as if our taxes are finished, but they are not. Last year's information is not there. What do you all do when in this spot? I usually have them finished, but not this year... Adding: For those looking later, I ended up using last year's return and the "will file" option. I am agreeing with down thread that early FAFSA deadlines and getting taxes finished beforehand can be quite a challenge, especially if you are self employed.
  12. Lanny, With Mac, TaxAct's only option is completely online. I want to be able to store on my computer and work from it. So I guess what I want to know is IF you use online, can you save the information to your computer with TaxAct? Adding: With Turbo Tax, you can download from online work what is called a tax file (that can be updated with later retrievals) or as a pdf. You just can't work from your computer only, you log in to TT. Thinking about it all, I really work "online" either way, since TT is always putting a window up for updates. There are mixed reviews for H&R. Also, another "surprise" is that deluxe doesn't work anymore for my needs, there is NO Schedule C, all has moved to the more expensive version.
  13. OK if I remember correctly, last year's FAFSA figures are in there online. I do have income for 2014 figured (but not all the deductions), but its all waiting to be imported to 2014 forms. I'm thinking about downloading H&R Premier from Amazon, it does support 10.6.8 and will import from TT. It sounds like it should work, but if you knew me and software and computers..... it took a bit for me to know how to work TT... Thanks for taking some of the sting out of this... Anyone use H&R?
  14. Well, FAFSA is due Monday for dd's college... and I loaded the trusty TT disc onto my laptop to do our taxes and.... snow leopard is no longer supported. I really don't want all of our information online/on a cloud (that is the only way I can keep TT). I usually buy TT Deluxe, it works for dh's simple sole proprietorship, have several years stored, do our estimated taxes using TT, easily upload previous year's information. I looked at TaxAct, must do online. So no. ADDING: I am now considering this since its looking like I will need to use online with an older computer, thanks Lanny. Does it work well for figuring uneven estimated payments using actual income? $22 for everything, that is hard to at least resist trying. I just want to go sob (recovering from flu and have to get this done). Somewhere I saw H & R Block Premium might work... I do know how to do it all by hand, but then I couldn't do online filing. UGH UPDATE: I did successfully use last year's tax returns and "will file" option on FAFSA. And I am trying TaxAct, in process, but so far, so good. Also, supposedly TT Deluxe online option supports Sch. C. That is my back up plan.
  15. I am in year seven of college kids living here. It is quite stressful, I can't believe the amount of work assigned. Both dc (good students) say sometimes you just can't get to it all, so you don't do lower point assignments (homework grade) and ask for extensions when needed. I will say teachers won't always give them for poor planning, but will for a good student caught with a ton of work. He is handling it correctly. Maybe consider leaving him alone, my college kids take a day off when work stacks, and it is a good thing to recognize you are overwhelmed (he did) and handle it (he is). I'm taking bets he is working it out and there is no need to call the counselor (I would caution you to not to call and let your son handle it).
  16. Swimmermom said "..the boy has a 1997 Toyota Camry. It was a one owner car with all of the service records. Yes, it's a bit of a "grandma" car, but with a 19 yo guy, this has been a good thing. I looked at Craigslist every day and ran all of the license plates for DMV records. That was an interesting learning process. Such as, the car that is advertised with 150,000 miles on it, but DMV shows consistent service records through 250,000 miles. Many cars are sold as "clean" titles ...." My post (I think something went wrong when I reduced the quote...) We also bought a 97 Camry for a 3rd car. We did have to put a couple thousand in it, but now it will probably run forever. Dd uses a 00 Camry. They are great cars to buy used, even if you initially have to put some money into them. Swimmermom, how did you "run all the license plates for DMV records?"
  17. :grouphug: Do you have any reputable in network options? If not, its more important that you get her better. Worry about paying later, just make sure where you pick comes highly recommended.
  18. We love our SEBO, its is the upright, but the tools work as well as a canister. I added an extra length of hose and a stair cleaner, and WOW!!
  19. Whatever YOU want! And suit your comfort level. If you want it after you know baby is born, then wait. If you don't feel up to attending, then have your mom/friend/relative have a virtual shower. I was given showers with both kids, it was fun. We had to wait until almost delivery with both because I had terrible morning sickness and I wouldn't have been able to attend earlier.
  20. Find out if you pronate in or out.... I pronate out, which is more rare, and shoes for this are hard to find. "Neutral" soles work well. What doesn't are shoes designed to prevent pronating inward, it doubles my issue and hurts my feet and back. I was glad to find out this and know what to look for.
  21. :grouphug: Mine are still here, job challenges, local college student (and work at home husband). So the quiet after 17 years of homeschooling never happened. I look at your posts mentioning an alone vacation maybe with a little envy... The truth is, for us, probably somewhere in the middle of no kids and kids all the time would work best. Have you thought about using the vacation to visit your daughter in NY if its a good time for her? It might soothe that empty spot, I'm sure you miss her terribly. And then go get a room near your son and take him out to several meals over the weekend too (he'll appreciate good food over that cafeteria stuff). I'll be honest, I'm dreading mine leaving and probably won't do as well as you are... I'll be checking back to see hive wisdom on this.
  22. No way (!!), never heard of overtime for "clopening" but I have been here awhile. The $8.50 is not a training rate, unfortunately. There is only overtime after 40 hours in a week, NOT 8 hours/day so you can go over that and not be paid overtime. Also, it is a regular practice to send workers home EVERY WEEK at 39.75 hours a week so no benefits have to be provided.
  23. I'm taking guesses that if you have insomnia, that there is a possibility that you won't sleep at the sleep study. That would probably be what would happen to me.
  24. Right to work state: $8.50/hour, no benefits, no guaranteed or set hours, can be fired for any reason and with no notice, also, can close at night, then have to open next morning. I have met grocery department managers of smaller, regional grocery stores, making $10 an hour and not knowing how they were going to pay their bills, but the job was all they could find. I am from a union state, but ended up here. You don't think pay and benefits (and working conditions) could be as they sometimes are here (no breaks, no meal time, unlimited availability). I knew people in my home state working full time at a grocery store fully paying their way, and able to buy a home. Unheard of here unless you are a manager, and sometimes, not even then. If your son is reaping the benefits of higher pay because of the union, maybe it will balance out.
