It's heeeerre!! Movie list for SOTW volume 2 w/ links to Netflix
charmama4 replied to Macrina's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
You rock!! Thanks for sharing all your hard work with us. Are you planning on doing SOTW 3 movie list as well? I would be glad to help. -
I wanted to name my third ds Wyatt..Wyatt Laine. Wyatt because I thought it sounded really manly and strong and Laine for my Aunt that recently passed, her name was Elaine. My husband (now ex) wanted to name him Hunter, he won. Later I found out that Hunter is also another name for the Orion constellation and Orion was the name of a boy he fathered and gave up to the mother. Needless to say I am not pleased with the motive of naming my son but I love my son either way. It's not my son's fault. You can't pick your parents.

Hiding vegetables in other food?
charmama4 replied to MorganClassicalPrep's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I put shredding zucchini in our pasta sauce. It works like a charm for my picky eater who only eats mac-n-chz (if I let him :D). I love zucchini muffins. If you want to PM me I think I can find a recipe that is sugar free. -
I'm waiting anxiously for dh to come home from work so I can ask when he's able to take leave on any of the dates. As soon I know what dates then I can look for lodging ourselves. It will probably be military lodging though. And like you we are making it a mini vacation out of it. Shoot! with the amount of money we are saving we have to!

My dh was told by his PCM that he has "runner's knee". I worry about this because he's in the military and has physcial training tests twice a year. He has very high standards he has to uphold. He was also told that if his scheduled MRI comes back positive (for what I dont' know) they will look into surgery. So if there are any runner's out there that has had this and has suggestions on what helped them I'm all :bigear:!!

This reminds me of the movie Julie/Julia. About a woman named Julie that made a blog about her experiences with Julia Childs french cookbook. She cooked all of the recipes and blogged about it. It was based on reallife. I enjoyed the movie alot. Perhaps looking at cookbooks at the library to see what genre of cooking she wants to try. Then buying the book she likes the most and go wild in the kitchen!! I have a budding chef in the family as well and is always asking what he can cook for dinner. This gives me an idea....

this one reminds of a time when someone asked me if I believed in God and my reply was "which one?"

Is Don Quixote appropriate for a 10yo?
charmama4 replied to Melinda S in TX's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Hmmm, appropriate in the sense of s*x? As I can remember (it's been awhile) no. Quixote was a man on chivelry and wanted to see the world as it should be and not as it was. The Spanish Inquisition was going on at the time. For a 10yo I believe there would be a lot of question and non-understanding. That's just my humble opinion. I took my kids to the play. They loved it. Perhaps you could look out for a production near you? -
Do you break for summer, or continue through?
charmama4 replied to spradlin02's topic in General Education Discussion Board
We school 4 weeks on 1 week off with 2 weeks off in December, and every other friday off (when daddy has off :D) so with all that said and done we still have the whole month of August off and still school for 180 days. -
NEED Your BEST Head Lice Treatment........
charmama4 replied to MariannNOVA's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Can you go camping for a night or two? Lice can't live without a host for more than 24 hours, so while those little buggers are dying at your house, you can nit-pick somewhere else. When the boys were in PS we had 4 cases of it at the school with 2of them at my house. Just reading your post made my head itch!! I feel for ya honey!! After doing all and more of what you are doing I actually broke down and bought the over the counter stuff, AFTER I shaved the boys' head of course. That's what did it for the boys. Now your dd, hmmmm....my dd is a blonde and boy was it hard to find those little buggers but I plopped her down in a chair next to a window, with my glass of water (to drown them), the comb, and got to it. YOu have to be real careful about getting the eggs. The eggs don't breathe so trying to smother them with mayo or anything else won't work. Get the eggs!!!! You have to be meticulous for about 2 weeks of the nit picking business to be sure you got the little devils. Hope that helps. -
Scheduling RS4K, Level 1 rambling questions! :)
charmama4 replied to Jennefer@SSA's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
We are doing chemistry next year as well by using the pre-level and level one. I was also wondering the same thing. I think how I'm going to do it is: read the text, talk about it, diagram what ever we can, read other books, outline things, then do some experiements (2 or 3). I may be able to stretch out a chapter over 3 or 4 weeks at 2 days a week. -

Huh? are you sure *I* didn't write this post? I have the same things going on with me. Hopefully it's my thyroid as well. -
http://www.sfmta.com/cms/mfares/passports.htm The above link is for what is called, a Passport. It enables you to use the cable cars, busses, and trolleys unlimited for one price. I highly recommend using ALL of the public transportation that is available. You can also use your cell phone to call (I think it's 311) and the operator can tell you exactly which bus to take to get you where you want to go. It was perfect when I got lost in China Town one time :D. The cable cars also has a FREE musuem where it shows the big gears that pulls the cables through out the city. Very cool for the kids. So ride a cable car and see the musuem. Books....really didn't suggest any books did I? Well, how about books on cable cars and public transportation? Have a blast!! We always do.

History Odyssey Ancients Level 1 ?
charmama4 replied to ThreeBlessings's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
According the lessons laid out you do read most if not all of the chapters during the year. Yes, you read SOTW out of order with History Odyssey's lessons. Ms. Bauer's book is chronologically written and Ms. Whitfield's lessons are written out geographically. I hope I helped some. My kids and I really enjoyed HO Ancients, Middle Ages and look forward to Early Modern. I suggest NOT trying to do everything in one lesson in one day. Especially the lessons with Parts 1, 2 or even 3.
