  1. Not only your suggestions of schooling so appreciated but your words of encouragement are wonderful!! Thanks so much.
  2. I am currently trying to sell my house also. An Open House was never discussed however, I am purging my things to make our house look uncluttered and BIG!! As a potential home buyer I would want to look at a house with furniture but sparsely done and no personal things around. I want to envision my things in the house.
  3. Darla, It's like your living with me and see my stress. Thanks for the advice, it is sincerely appreciated.
  4. Ha you mention guilt. How did you know my one of my middle names is "guilt" my other is "worry"!!!!! It's nice to have permission to not feel the guilt, thanks. The science summer camp sounds like fun.
  5. i.love.lucy, thanks for the advice. My DS's (older three) can handle a schedule and cross off as they go. My DD needs my presence at all subject lesson. I was thinking the living books for history. Thanks. Now what about science?
  6. My husband got orders (USAF) and he's at school in Texas at the moment. We knew it was coming and I thought I was ready, but uh, no. So, I have to get the house sell ready (paint, carpet, carpentry, repair, clean...)and sell said house. Alll this while trying to homeschool 4 kids (8th, 6th, 4th and 1st grades). I need help fellow homeschooler parents!!! To help with the schooling, I reduced our work load. Math (Saxon) KEEPING Grammar (Easy Grammar and Daily Grams) KEEPING DG Wordsmith Apprentice KEEPING First Language Lessons KEEPING Evan Moor Begginers GeographyKEEPING Phonics (Saxon) KEEPING History Odyssey REAL Science Logic KEEPING ReadingKEEPING Art Vocabulary (Wordly Wise) Spelling (Spelling Workout) I'm kind of putting the art, spelling, vocabulary on the back burner till we get to our next base. My question is what can I do about history and science? I want to continue our study of the middle ages and earth science, but not sure how. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
  7. This exactly what I plan to do with my loose leaf copy of Earth/Astronomy lessonplan. And YES the publisher states that you may copy for your own children just NOT for a classroom or co-op.
  8. I used them both last year (my first year HS'ing) and will continue to do so in the future. For my (last year) 3rd grader, he did one Daily Gram then 1-2 worksheets from Easy Grammar. We would go over the reading (lesson)together then he would do the worksheets and DG indepently. I thought the DG were important to keep them practicing capitalization, punctuation, etc when we was doing his lesson in adverbs, for example. HTH.:001_smile:
  9. Your thyroid controls so many things I was completely surprised. Your monthly cycles all the way to hair loss/dullness. Then there's the exhaustion and loss of libido. I was diagnosed 6mo. after giving birth to my oldest. I thought it was just "baby blues" and post natal exhaustion then had my levels checked. Your levels change all the time, that's why your doctor has you get lab work 2-4 times a year to make sure you are on the right dosage. It's a simple blood test, no time at all and it's a quick response. If you question anything, have your levels checked. Good luck and good health.
  10. could you PM me so that we may chat about this more?
  11. WOW, great news!!! Thanks for the post. Also, I jsut found out that some community colleges offers 1 free 4 credit class a year for income eligible, which I'm sure most military families fall under this. Check it your local CC. Thanks again for the info on the GI bill.
  12. Rosie, Something told me that you were in the SCA. Maybe it was something you posted..... Wow, your tips are phenomenal, thank you. Luckily my DH had all of his armour and to save on cost did his own pounding of his helmet. He just made his own helm and is quite proud of it. He is a "do it yourselfer" so that helps. Our seneschal is quite the semstress so she helps me with the kids garb, they need so many outfits and grow so quickly. Thank goodness for "hand me downs". I pay it forward and pay it back by offering to mow her 3 acres of grass or watch peoples kids during fighter practice....HOLD!!!!!! I want to use silk in my embroidery but NOT till I get the hang of it. There's a little shop on my corner that sells the supplies, she even has raw material to felt with!!! I really want to try my hand at viking motif really and try to stay within that period and genre. Can't beat the garb aspect of it!!! I just got done with making the boys pants that have either 2 or 4 panels of some old sheets that I wasn't using. Sure it looks like PJ's but it's for kids play garb. I have yet to make myself an apron dress. Where I'm at we have a Wal-mart or Hobby Lobby for our fabric selection and it's AWEFUL!!! I have yet to venture to Ft. Collins in Colorado to check out their selection. My seneschal does most of her shopping on line, so that's my best bet till we PCS out. Yes, we are also military to boot. Volunteer....oh yes!!! I am volunteering 4 hours for our up coming war during youth activities and my 11DS is volunteering in the kitchen because the "feastocrat" said she'll feed him if he does dishes. My son loves to eat different foods and this is right up his alley! We just uped our membership and you can't beat the family caps on SCA events. With 4 kids its wonderful!!! Your name is beautiful, can you tell me more about it??
  13. My DH played in Caid. Now we are in the Outlands getting ready for 2nd Glory War. The kids have a blast in the boffer tourney's and my DD was even was recognized by TRH's for her chilvery. Something about watching a 5 year old curtsy for the Queen, ya know!!! It sure is an expensive hobby, for sure. What tips do you have, even though you don't play anymore, for this SCA newbie? We are a vking persona family, my DH is a heavy fighter and embroidery looks real interesting to me.
  14. I was just wondering if anyone here are members or partipants of the SCA? IF so what kingdom?
  15. 1.turn tv on 2.change tv channel to video in (the one that you turn it to to watch vcr movies) 3.grab wii remote 4.turn power button on wii remote- that should turn your wii console on 5.upper left hand corner of screen when main wii menu is on the screen, choose your game. Hope that helps. BTW, these directions are from my DH, I have no idea how to the darn thing either!!!! Have fun and don't worry, my kids like to watch me lose my balance on the tight rope game.
  16. I have a rising 8th grader as well and also pulled him out of PS last year. Regarding your schedule, here's what we are doing and I suggest to you: Typing 1-2 days for 15-20mins. Logic 3-4 days for 30-45mins. We will be using Mind Benders, Fallacy Detective and Reading/Science Detectives. I thought about alternating between them so not to get bored with just one thing. I"m sorry to say don't know about the Spanish but, I'm sure someone will chime in to help. I am not familiar with TRISM, VideoText Algebra, or Rainbow Science but, it all sounds OK. Just remember, as I have learned over the past year, if it doesn't work you can always tweak it!!!! BTW, love the WII fit!!!! We do it at home for family entertainment. The kids love to see mommy lose her balance on the tight rope!!!
  17. I liked it. My daughter loved it!! It was nice to have something written out for me and something where my DD could allow her creativity run through. I used it with Core Knowledge art along with library books on different art that AP was covering in a lesson. HTH.
  18. Crazy Horse was our favorite. If you are able to go, stay in the evening hours, they do a real neat laser show on the sculpture of Crazy Horse. The museum is huge so allow tons of time to look through. If you are active military your admission is free. If not, check with their website to confirm, they also take canned goods for admission. We stayed at Big Pine Campground, google it.
  19. Thank you for this suggestion. This past year we just used old paper grocery bags, cut them up into strips, used a sharpie to put on the "time line" lines and the boys filled in the information. But, it takes up a lot of wall space and your suggestion is great for storing. Wish I thought of this last year, but it's my first year homeschooling and learning as I go!! Do you also time line the Arts/Literature or Science dates?
  20. I briefly looked at this and I remember reading somewhere that this is best used by parents that are well versed in compostiton (which I have to admit am not). Am I correct in this? We are not learning Latin this year, will this matter using this program?
  21. Do you think I could stretch out Wordsmith to last 2 years till he is ready for Wordsmith Craftsman?
  22. I wish I could afford this program, it sounds wonderful. Thank you for the suggestion.
