  1. Wow. Yes, you need to be asking questions and using critical thinking in that instance: double what exactly?
  2. Those sensationalistic headlines have the opposite effect on me: they make me want to believe the story is false even when I know it's true. I usually can't bring myself to click on links with headlines when they are worded that way. :tongue_smilie:
  3. I also have to wonder how many who click on fake news actually believe it. I can scan the cover of National Enquirer while standing in line at the grocery store, but that doesn't mean I believed any of it.
  4. From the site: I was referring to category three. If the story is accurate, using an alarmist title does not suddenly change it to "fake". Although, thinking about is some more, if you see an article with a sensational headline, it does seem obvious to do a little research to verify it is valid.
  5. Grocery store gift cards, vehicle parts, gift certificates for oil changes, toiletries, supplies for hobbies (sleeping bag, fishing line, etc.).
  6. Many teenagers are this way. I have seen a few teenagers save as their parents instructed, and the second they had some independence they blew the money on less than healthy things. Sometimes it's better for young people to have less money! I feel your pain. It is very frustrating. Keep plugging away, mama.
  7. I have a problem with the article's broad categorization of "fake news". While I detest alarmist headlines, that doesn't make the story fake. Also, sharing this article on my FB feed will probably not convince those that need to hear it. They love sites like mercola.com. Simply telling people it's "fake" won't convince people who already don't understand basic science.

Yes. With a calendar and a pencil, lol. DD did put an app on her phone, I will have to find out which one it was.
  9. It's usually nothing, but I would worry. Might be worth the minimal shop fee just for the peace of mind.
  10. The differences between Partnership Writing and Faltering Ownership are spelled out pretty well on the Bravewriter website. I wish I could say more about the bundles, but all I can do is encourage you that you know your son best and can trust your gut to pick the right level.
  11. I'm not following the bingo card too closely, but thought the 2016 publication date would be a difficult square for me as well. Then the library miraculously sent me Barkskins by Annie Proulx before 2017, so I may just make that category, at least.
  12. A quick read through Vinegar Girl was had this weekend, thanks to BaW. Anne Tyler's retelling of The Taming of the Shrew felt like a comfort read. Does that count as Flufferton?
  13. The way I read it, she quoted the poster who thought niemoller applies to this situation. Which is not the same thing as laughing and pointing at people publicly curling up into a fetal position.
  14. Her follow-up post seems to make it clear she's laughing at the "end of the world", chicken little reaction, not at genocide. That this election result = genocide might be an opinion shared by posters in this thread, but her post does not reflect laughing at genocide to me.
  15. Change the lighting to stainless/nickel finish and white, stay away from the yellow lighting in a wood-filled room, lol. Change bar stools. The rope and murals have to go. Agree with painting ceilings. I don't love the carpet.
  16. As a parent who easily compensated for their child, and who later recognized ADD in hindsight.... they will not always be homeschooled. They will not always live at home. Consider right now what skills they possess to live completely independently. It would be much easier to work though a diagnosis, coping skills, strategies and/or even possibly meds when they *are* homeschooled and have you to navigate those waters with them. Considering there might be a *reason* you get sidetracked more often than others and doing something about it would actually be taking responsibility. Please read Smart but Scattered.
  17. My son pays his rent through e-transfer. He and I send funds for various things to each other this way, as well. No fees.
  18. Oh, that story-telling game where each person adds a sentence (or more) can be a lot of fun.
  19. Water from cooking beets? Might look a little too scary, though. :D
  20. If you plan on having a fire, collecting wood is good. You might want to bring some games or decks of cards for evenings or if the weather is foul.
  21. Poppy, I think I see what you are saying. The Sequential Spelling people have a program, "If it is to be, it is up to me." Yes, the people who have ADD loved ones need to accept that this won't be "fixed". But also yes, those with ADD need to take accountability to do their best to find strategies to function. You all seem to agree more than you know, it's just a misunderstanding. ((( hugs to all )))
  22. Is it that he can't make sense of the words in context or that he can't provide a specific definition? I'd maybe want to check any words he doesn't understand in a multiple choice type of format, like those Reader's Digest quizzes. :-)
  23. I'm a fan of grilled fruit and cheese sandwiches.
