  1. My husband has filed for divorce and I am completely unsure how to do FAFSA for my 18 yr old senior. Son lived with me all of 2015; my husband did not live with us in actuality but used our address as his home We filed JOINTLY for 2015 I have no income, but my husband has a high income Any helpful advice? Anyone BTDT?
  2. We used it thru K12. It was TERRIBLE. They contract with teachers. They don't bother checking on said teachers. So after 6 weeks of K12 telling me oh soon it will open soon... annnnddddd ....nothing. I called Middlebury. Apparently the teacher had an ill child and was overwhelmed so she just... did nothing at all. They were offended that I was annoyed. Poor them.
  3. I don't agree with the definition of mortal sin being about the ten commandments. Its not at all. Mortal sin is "grave" and deliberate and it separates you from God. http://www.saintaquinas.com/mortal_sin.html Missing mass because you want to be alone at the house with your feet up would be a mortal sin which would require you to confess it and be forgiven. Missing mass because the baby has been coughing all night and you haven't slept a wink and you do not feel well would not be a mortal sin.
  4. I would not charge my kid for a compulsion. Its a very common anxiety response for kids at that age.
  5. Poor Pop. she would be eaten in a heart beat.
  6. I have no idea what anyone may do in the future. It absolutely IS a game. If you are good at hoop jumping school will be your kind of game.:) I was good at it. 1/2 my boys are interested in playing the game. The other rolls his eyes and learns on his own time- autodidacts may or may not thrive in schools.
  7. Wolves do not nap on the couch and snuggle under the covers. Costco is perfectly fine for my darling beloved mutt.
  8. I do not do this in grade 8, whether that may be 13 or 14. In grade 9 my kids go to high school- one went to a K12 school (huge mistake- sub par at best; one to the large public local high school). In the year before we do whatever they want- I explain that expectations the next year may be more stringent as they will not be mine. I explain that school kids produce a great deal of written output. Then in grade 9 I say good luck. I help a little as needed. And then I say, hey. Its a game. Play it or do not play it. Good luck. Have fun!
  9. I did it in 1989. We moved back to Va after that. I got to go to UVa to summer programs each year in junior high. It was fun. I met boys. It was enrichment not any sort of drill academics. My parents then made me take the SAT each year so they could watch my scores go up. That was not so fun. I maxed out verbal and never got my maths real high. Ah well. I went to William and Mary on early decision. I dropped out and got pg at 21. HTH!
  10. Did you see the glory hole elf? There is a candy cane sticking thru a hole in the wall. Super inappropriate. I nearly died laughing. Inappropriate is my middle name.
  11. Your dh nails it, IMO. Esp the difference between elf and mensch. We do a little Santa, tho my skeptic kids never believed very much. We also do St Nicholas and a Jesse Tree and a xmas devotional (Jotham's Journey books). I have teens and I do collect moderately inappropriate elf images to show them. My fav this year is the elf filming barbie dolls in a sink full of bubbles. Salient message for teens in a world of sexting. ;)
  12. At least this one has positive cultural educational value. The elf is just more commercialization of a religious holiday. Nothing could be more middle class american than a store bought "tradition", I suppose.
  13. I would really encourage you to see a derm and ask about injections in the site. You should not be trying to lance these at home. In general topical treatment can neither help nor prevent these sorts of cysts.
  14. You need to see a dermatologist. I get cysts on my face and they can be injected with a combo steroid and antibiotic and they will be gone with in 24 hours. My kids get them as well- my son had one on his cheek so large it was swelling his eye shut, and one on his ear lobe which made his ear twice its normal size and shiny red.
  15. I feel fairly confident what was being discussed was not an incident at a party but the GOP mailing depicting Obama eating watermelon and fried chicken. Perhaps I am remembering a different discussion than you are. Many people insisted it was not racism at work or that associating Obama with watermelon was not inherently racist. I believe that was... delusional at best. http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2008/10/16/30814/obama-bucks/
  16. You should have some blood work done, just in case. http://kellymom.com/bf/got-milk/supply-worries/galactorrhea/
  17. Sonlight. 2007 or 08. This is not the way I remember that discussion.
  18. You know, I always hesitate on this sort of thread to post about my experience as a warning to those who think it can be no big deal to miscarry at home... but I had a similar experience with my 3rd pregnancy (sans the ambulance, which we should have called, and the respect). I am glad you received respectful compassionate care. I felt very very tired for some time after the transfusion and surgery. Give yourself lots of permission to grieve and rest. I am so sorry for your loss.
  19. Realistically these have zero real benefit. They are cute I guess. I had one and it shorted out.
  20. never. and I have owned 4 iPods and multiple iPhones (mine and kids).
  21. I think its related to crunchiness but not to anything else. When I worked with a homebirth CNM our average weight was 9#.
  22. I'm on my last kid and my reasons have changed. In the beginning it was about academics. Now its because: I do not like getting up early School would make me mad because it seems like a waste of time. Really. I believe elementary and middle school are a waste of time. Period.
  23. I would get the smart case they sell to match it
  24. France has big issues with Islam and North african immigrants/ arab immigrants. "Secularism" may be one word for it but I would call it racism. https://www.rt.com/news/234019-france-racism-jews-muslims/ http://frenchmorning.com/en/racism-france-not-skin-color/ All Things Considered had excellent coverage this weekend, too.
