  1. Cod...hahahaha. Wasn't cod the fish in the "would you eat this?" thread? Shudder.
  2. FYI $10 Dinners by Melissa D'Arabian is $2 on amazon for Kindle.
  3. I need a break so badly I'd be happy in a La Quinta next a Cracker Barrel.
  4. (((Hugs, Melissa))) It's not whining when horrible stuff happens. I'm sorry.
  5. I usually say no to coffee...bc no one else wants to order an iced coffee triple triple for me. And a maple glazed. :leaving:
  6. Has anyone made "velveeta" then used it in recipes? http://www.kingarthurflour.com/blog/2014/10/01/the-secret-ingredient-chefs-wont-admit-using/
  7. This meme seems appropriate. I know Maureens hear their name mispronounced all the time.
  8. OH MY YES to pine nuts being crazy expensive. I haven't had any in a long time. I love them in salads, too.
  9. Well, when I said bar fight, I thought some Billy Big Balls from Beer started trouble with Spencer, and he had to defend himself.
  10. I thought a bar fight, too. But, geez...the Oregon shooting happened where Alex Skarlotos attends school.
  11. Not a lot of info http://www.cbsnews.com/news/spencer-stone-us-air-force-france-train-attack-repeatedly-stabbed/ What the heck?
  12. Get on top of the pain by alternating ibuprofen and acetaminophen. Liquids and shakes, Popsicles, pudding, yogurt...avoid any extra chewing until the pain is under control.
  13. Other great (IMO) recipe blogs for family food are: Deep South Dish Mel's Kitchen Cafe Budget Bytes And I love the book $10 Dinners by Melissa D'arabian. She has recipes with variations, so like a chicken with pan sauce and a bunch of variations. In that vein, the point of How to Cook without a Book by Pamela Anderson is to learn a basic technique and how to vary it.
  14. I'm reading book 12 in the Molly Murphy series, The Family Way by Rhys Bowen. I had kept up with the series until a few years ago. I got back into them this summer and have read numbers 9, 10 and 11. They're fun quick reads.
  15. Control the language, control the argument.
  16. I "see" giving me a modified side eye as you're saying this. Or fajita rice bowls...cuz you said you had rice. Sauté the chicken, peppers and onions. Make some rice. Chop up the jalapeños. Throw everything on the table.
  17. I'm glad you and your father helped this woman.
  18. I do something similar...except I buy a 5-7 lb roast and use a bottle of beer, a can of Cambell's beef consommé and a packet of Good Seasons. I stir everything but the beef together in the crockpot, then add the beef and add water until the roast is about halfway submerged. We eat it in summer with on rolls served with potato salad or pasta salad. In the winter, we have whipped potatoes and another vegetable. Leftovers: I take a square of Saran Wrap and scoop a sandwich-sized amount of beef into the middle of it. I wrap that up and freeze individually for sandwiches. It takes a few minutes to heat up (even from frozen) in a covered pan.
  19. :crying: Your poor son. It is so rough. Through different circumstances, we twice got another dog within weeks of our last dog dying. I told the kids that the new dog wouldn't eliminate the pain of losing our old dog but that having another dog (especially ones that needed homes) would bring some joy and light to us. And they did! Again, I'm sorry.
