  1. Do you have a nearby relative or maybe even a trusted neighbor's older child (good in math) that could help out? Nearby library with volunteers? just throwing out ideas. Mark
  2. ah GOLUMPKI (GOŁĄBKI) I haven't had that since I moved from the central New York state area years ago. yum
  3. Make sure you read the comments as well - WP does a pretty good job of getting decent comments on articles (especially compared to the WSJ)
  4. Yes that was me with my gifted DS - After schooling was OK to fill in the education gaps with some "struggles" - he thanked me later for doing it - Senior in HS now with merit scholarships offered by several colleges
  5. Ah Scheme that's been a CS favorite for a while but I would prefer to see: 1) Python based CS1 and CS2 2) more 'modern' functional language such as Haskell or F# AP CS is stuck in the 2000s IMHO but don't get me wrong Java is still very popular
  6. google for some nice videos I saw it partially frozen decades ago This is not very common.
  7. [snip] this is the IRL info that folks are looking for! No way I could glean above from the website. Mark
  8. You may want to contact the OP of this thread to see what feedback they got: http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/664727-university-affiliated-online-high-school-classes/
  9. see http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/540313-homeschool-high-school-physics/?do=findComment&comment=6153674 look at the Name: Physics: Principles with Applications by Douglas Giancoli item using the old AP Physics B curriculum for a one year HS Honors Physics makes a lot sense. If your student does not have or will not Calculus at the time of the course. ============================================= I would not take the AP Physics 1 or 2 exams IMHO. We are doing the material from AP Physics 2 this year but DS will not take any AP exam in Physics.
  10. Anyone using it? Heard of it? Received this in an email: " Certell (certell.org) is an education nonprofit dedicated exclusively to producing free, full-semester curriculum for teachers who have a passion to engage students. Certell does this by creating meaningful content that positively shapes students' futures. The content is dynamic, thought provoking and relevant—and they do an amazing job of using current, popular media to convey powerful concepts. This content helps students embrace the common sense, life-changing principles they will take with them into adulthood. While the curriculum is targeted to the high-school level, it can also be adapted for use by middle school or college educators. " https://www.certell.org/ [ not an endorsement ]
  11. I don't know about "best" but I did use this App a few years back to try it out: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Mathematics [looks like it has not been updated.] today I would probably just google a "calculator" type online App. but I haven't because Algebra is just too easy to do in my head or quickly on paper.

  14. thank you for the information on digital pianos (this is an older thread)
  15. Oh I meant AZ covers the stuff from that text in our typical 8th grade science classes. I did not look at what Pearson said about that specific text (my bad). I should let the morning coffee kick in before I post ;)
  16. This would be considered a Middle School textbook here in AZ. There is a Teacher's Edition, Physical Science: Concepts in Action ISBN 10: 0133163970 / ISBN 13: 9780133163971 Chegg sells solutions might be pricey
  17. saw this 42 Homeschool Parents Recommend Best Board Games http://homeschoolsuperfreak.com/best-board-games-list/
  18. I wasn't wishing any harm - I thought maybe no news was good news - hopefully this high quality teacher can hook up with another outfit offering online services
  19. How are things going? If it is only science then worth getting that text book used make sure your student can keep you informed on what they are doing this is the whole idea of after-schooling - fix the holes - IMHO
  20. Do they have a free sample to try? All programming can be tedious at times.
