Food prices vary all the time but people rarely notice small changes. It's big changes on items you buy often that tend to be noticed. I bet no one mentions it on Facebook when they get back to more normal prices.

$4.58 for 18 regular large eggs at Walmart last week. Organic were out of the question but I don't remember the price. Farm eggs are $2-$3 per dozen locally but I keep forgetting to carry cash so I can pick them up.

I'm sorry, I hope tomorrow is better.

Organizing field trips: a tutorial :-)
Rachel replied to Ellie's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Thanks for sharing! I'm overwhelmed by planning things for others, but I can see a need for it in my community. I like the idea of each person only planning 2 per year. -
Groupon running a special on Audible membership

Shoot. I sure wish I had seen this yesterday when I signed up for a free trial month. -
My grandma is an identical twin and until she was an adult she thought she and her sister didn't look that much alike. Then they were in a store and Grandma thought she was walking toward her sister, she was walking toward a mirror. In their 80s they still look very much alike but very different too. Looking back at pictures from their 20s and younger I can't tell them apart at all. My grandma always knows which person she is in the picture but I have no way of knowing if she's correct. I knew a set of identical brothers in college. I thought they were spitting images of each other until I got to know them, then they looked nothing alike.

My 7 year old was interested in guitar. Our local guitar shop rented us a 3/4 sized Fender acoustic for $8 per month. We figure it's low investment and if he loses interest quickly, we aren't out much. If we decide to buy it, they will sell it at a discounted used price. So far he's enjoying it but we have only had it 6 weeks.

Guess we won't be joining the YMCA...
Rachel replied to Sebsmommy's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Our y usually does pay by the day 2-3 times a year. If you join the first if the month, it's $1, the 15th, $15. Maybe they would waive your joining fee. Also, in my town we have multiple locations. The monthly fee varies greatly based on which location you join. If you have another y not too far from you, you may want to see if you can get a better deal elsewhere. -
Preparing Young Children for Emergencies.

We have our kids practice what to do in a fire including setting off the smoke detectors so they know what they sound like. We also role play what a 911 call might be like. -
Sorry, but the Guheerts are giving homeschooling a bad name...

I'm traveling in Texas today and saw the Fort Worth paper. Was that your daughter on the front page? Eta went back and reread the Post article, I see now you are from a different part of the country. -
We took my son and niece to the beach at about that age. Do you have a big umbrella or canopy for shade? They splashed in the water a bit and loved the sand but needed a shady place to nap. Baby powder helps get the sand unstuck from skin.

I know a couple people that have worked at Shriners, they really loved the experience compared to other jobs they had. I only know one person personally who has had surgery there. She had surgery for scoliosis and her mother, a nurse, was very pleased with her surgery and care.

I found an exercise class I like (spinning) and go every Monday night and Saturday morning. Usually I don't have the kids with me so I get the driving time there and back all to myself. When my husband is out of town the kids go to the gym's childcare and I take a few minutes after class for myself before picking them back up.

FYI Pandia Press everything 30% off through 5/25
Rachel replied to Rachel's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Thanks! The timing isn't important, I just didn't budget for school stuff this month and am hoping they will have a sale again before we begin our next school year. Knowing they have sales throughout the year gives me hope I won't have to pay full price. -
I'm not sure how it would work with meatballs but lately I've been cooking a lot of sweet potato fries. I drizzle them with olive oil, sprinkle lots of paprika over them and then sprinkle a mixture of salt, pepper, and garlic powder. They are delicious! We used to do baked sweet potatoes frequently but this is now my family's preferred way to eat them.

S/O of NOOOO-----what foster parents really do, etc
Rachel replied to Ottakee's topic in The Chat Board
Thank you for sharing! Foster care is something I have had a heart for and have wanted to do for a long time. My husband would like to wait until our children are older. I admire you for doing this for so many years, I can see how some of those situations would wear you down. At the same time I am glad that you seem to see the positive in all the kids. Also, I agree with the PP that $17 dollars does not seem like nearly enough money. -
That is true, in her case it was definitely eccentricity though.

I had an eccentric great aunt who actually did that with greeting cards. The wedding card she sent was a birthday card someone had sent her. She crossed out their name wrote her name and then sent it with dish towels and a cook book from the 70s that were well loved.

EB Whites books are wonderful. I'm not sure if they are available for download but they are perfect for the ages of your children. ETA: He wrote Stuart Luttle, Charlotte's Web, and The Trumpet of Swan.

Congratulations and good luck! -
I'm so sorry! You are going a great job at a stressful time. Hang in there!

I'm so sorry, I am glad everyone is ok. Have you looked up the private party value on Nada or Kelley Blue Book on your car? If it's worth more than the insurance company offers, try to negotiate for a higher offer.

My husband is 6'5", he loves his Silvarado and had driven several different versions through the years. He says the newest (2015) model is not as roomy as the previous model. His favorite was the '94 as far as roominess but he currently has an '08 (I think). His height is in his upper body not his legs if that helps.
