  1. I'm not sure if it is still this way but at least 10 years ago McDonalds was the number one consumer of Holsteins in the US, they use them for meat. Plus you have to do something with all the bull calves, you don't need many for reproduction purposes. My inlaws raise Holstein steers and sell them for beef, there is a market for it.
  2. The cows in the ads are always encouraging people to eat chicken. One ad says "Save the cows!"
  3. No pictures but I took my kids today, my daughter even had a cow bell. We went around 4:30 to avoid crowds, there were still lots of people. My favorite was a group of college students in actual cow costumes.
  4. Oh yes! Their cupcakes have no flavor and there is way too much icing (and I love icing!).
  5. I expect my husband to turn his phone to do not disturb at night because I couldn't sleep otherwise. He gets tons of email and random texts from employees. As far as other people, I'm not one to text in the middle of the night. I do send early morning texts but those are only to close family members who I happen to know silence their phones at night. If I'm texting an aquaintance or a neighbor, I wait until a decent time. I always set my phone to do not disturb at night and occasionally in the afternoon while my kids nap. My husband always gets through and close friends/family know they can call twice to get through in an emergency.
  6. I can't stand Cracker Barrel. I hadn't been in 3 or 4 years but was in one a couple months ago. My husband said he would never take me back, I ruin the experience for him.
  7. Day 1 went fine. I did snack on fruit a couple times, we didn't have any raw veggies on hand like I thought we did. I did have a pretty bad caffiene withdrawal headache, but I expected that. I switched from a daily Diet Mountain Dew to a cup of coffee a couple weeks ago but today was my first day without anything. Breakfast was eggs, a nectarine, and red pepper slices, lunch was a sweet potato hash, and for supper I did a salad with tuna. I had fruit and unsalted cashews between meals. I don't usually snack but today I needed it.
  8. I call my stepmom mom and my step siblings call my dad (their step dad) dad. It was our choice. I think it depends on the relationship with the bio parent. In my case I had very little relationship with bio mom. My step siblings only saw their dad a couple times a year although they see him often now and they refer to both men in their lives as dad. I think kids should be allowed to make the decision on their own without pressure from their bio parents or their step parents.
  9. I'm starting my Whole30 tomorrow, I'm actually not too worried about it except the lack of oatmeal and beans. I know I can go a month without them but it may get boring.
  10. I got "It Starts with Food" from my library, I would say it isn't necessary. I'm starting my Whole30 tomorrow.
  11. Thanks! There has been very little info due to a new extention agent who wasn't an agent before, the program assistant and the receptionist also both left in the last couple months. All the paperwork was for actual 4H camp the following week which has made things even more confusing.
  12. With the two month old I would definitely wait a bit longer instead of rushing to the toilet every 15 minutes. All of mine have trained at different times (2.5, 17 months, and 3). I think when they are ready it's a fairly easy process and there are few accidents. After my middle trained so early it was a bit hard on my ego to wait until 3 with my 3rd, but there is no way it would have gone smoothly if we had attempted potty training any earlier.
  13. War and Go Fish but instead of matches your cards have to add up to 10.
  14. Next week my 7 yo and I are heading to Cloverbud camp for three days. What should I expect? I was never in 4H and don't know anyone who was. We've been to a few Cloverbud classes but we haven't been consistent. I volunteered to attend camp since we don't know anyone involved or attending. What do I need to know?
  15. Mine just turned three. I have him use the toilet at certain times like before we leave the house but other than that ask him if he needs to pee. He was staying dry for 3-4 hours at a time though so I know he can hold it. I haven't figured out the poop thing with him yet. My other two always went at a certain time, he's not as consistent but is using his diaper at naptime which I'm fine with for now.
  16. I think Kentucky would work, outside of Lexington and Louisville the cost of living is decent. There are many colleges and community colleges. If you chose Northern Kentucky your husband could work in Cincinnati too.
  17. 20 pounds is great! You've lost weight and kept it off, good job. Keep plugging away and eventually the rest will be gone.
  18. We let ours go a couple years ago. You can usually get free shipping over a certain price point, I think it's $35. We didn't use Prime a ton. I've found that Amazon keeps raising prices on things I buy regularly so I end up buying through Walmart.com.
  19. So cool! Please, please blog or Instagram it. When my kids are all old enough I would like to do this as a family, my husband isn't convinced yet. As soon as my youngest can hike more than a couple miles without being carried I hope we will start section hiking the Sheltowe which isn't far from me.
  20. 20 pounds is still weight loss even if it is slower than you would like. I don't have any solutions for you but here are a few things to think about: What if you changed to some sort of totally different exercise for a month? Maybe spin class, swimming, Jazzercise, Zumba, a trampoline class? How strictly do you track your food intake? What does a typical week of food look like (prior to getting frustrated)? Do you eat out regularly? I have personally found that not all calories are created equally. My friend can lose weight eating all sorts of one and two point processed foods on Weight Watchers and she doesn't have to exercise. I need an almost no processed food diet to get the scale to budge even if I eat the same number of calories. Plus I have to exercise 4+ hours per week and walking doesn't work for me. ETA: I missed your plans the first time, I think it looks good. Is there any type of exercise you can do while injured?
  21. We bought a foreclosure that the bank rebought. It was actually more like a business transaction than other home buying/selling I have been through. We were able to negotiate some minor repairs (hot water heater was wired weird and therefore the inspector wasn't able to determine if it worked so the bank agreed to replace if it went out in the first year we owned the property) and a home warranty the bank paid for the first year. We live in a small town and were dealing with a small locally owned bank, so that could make a difference. Even if the house is being sold as is, you may be able to get a structural engineer out to give you a quote on the piers. Even if it is an expensive fix, you may still get a deal on the house. I think it's worth at least walking through the house.
  22. Sunday nights we have cereal. As a kid we had popcorn and apples on Sunday nights.
  23. Right now things are slow for my husband and he works 45-50 hours per week. When he's traveling or kicking off/finishing a project it's closer to 60.
  24. I think when it starts to interfere with life or behavior it's too much. My 7 yo frequently stays up reading too late, then can't sleep, and then is grouchy the next day. He also walked into a sign while reading today. I'd say that's too much reading.
