  1. I've done it both ways. With my oldest two, we simply covered it along with our history studies. With my 3rd ds, it is an elective.
  2. Today was great because I was able to accomplish everything I needed to (Mondays are FULL), and now I'm sitting here eating my favorite snack and doing absolutely nothing. Life is good.
  3. The Prophet, I agree, is amazing. Another great one is The Meditations of Marcus Aurelius.
  4. I totally understand. It is a very strange feeling when kids are "missing" from the house. We have a son in the Marine Corp and one that got married this summer. I STILL miss them every night when I go to bed!
  5. I would cook 1 lb. for four adults. I cook 2 lbs. for my family (6 of us who all eat like adults) and have some leftovers for lunch.
  6. We use The Church in History by Kuiper. It is from a Reformed/Protestant view so I'm not sure that's what you are looking for.
  7. How wonderful for you! I'm so glad you found something that works. It must be an immense relief.
  8. I just thought of another book I used for my oldest two (and me). It is called Thales to Dewey, and it is a much larger and more indepth book than The Story of Philosophy. My oldest two boys read this book alongside The Great Books by time period. FYI - The author is a Christian.
  9. I used the Magee book as a one-year course instead of spreading it out over four years. My ds has assigned reading and a writing assignment each week. It also seems to lead to many wonderful discussions. He also read Sophie's World. The only assignment with Sophie's World was discussing it with me. The other works on your list have been included in our Great Books Study, and philosophy is naturally included in our discussions/study of the Great Books all four years. If you are interested, I would be glad to share my writing assignments and break-up of the reading of Magee if you pm me.
  10. I am pretty OCD about most things, but this I have never heard of.
  11. Don't have anything to add, as everyone else has already covered it well. I just wanted to chime in as another happy nook person!
  12. Okay ladies, this is proof that I've finally lost it. I read the title as Apologia Physics instead of Saxon! So sorry!!
  13. :grouphug: Praying, Denise. If the father is in law enforcement, surely he will understand how serious this is. Your son may not get it right now and may get angry at you, but I bet he will understand and thank you when he is older and a little more mature.
  14. :grouphug: I can't imagine how you must be feeling. I will keep on praying that the truth comes out and the judge makes the right decision. What a nightmare for all of you.
  15. They are in the book "Solutions and Tests for . . " They are not in the test booklet; they are in with the answers book. We have previously used the 1st edition and I don't think they include them. I had to purchase the 2nd edition this time around because my 1st edition went missing. :001_smile:
  16. There is a test after every module. There are 16 modules which take two weeks each. There is also four quarterly modules to be given after module 4, module 8, module 12, and module 16.
  17. Oh my word. I would be livid. You absolutely have to talk to this boy's father, and I would not care how angry my ds got with me - he would never, ever be allowed to go back to that house again.
  18. We started dating 14 months after we met. We were just friends before that. We got engaged 5 months after we started dating and married 3 months later. That was 29 years ago.
  19. We're having marinated boneless pork chops, baked potatos, and a salad. I'm thinking about making a fruit cobbler for dessert if I can get my second wind.
