  1. Scentsy waxes smell the best to me, but some fragrances give me migraines. My mom inherits those! I've also dropped essential oils in "dead" wax to liven it up again. I like lemon or orange with rosemary and eucalyptus. There's a Williams-Sonoma scent mix that's nice too: lemon, vanilla, and rosemary. My family likes these homemade ones better.
  2. Savannah has Tybee nearby, but I don't consider that area a real beach. I grew up visiting my grandparents on the Panhandle and the Georgia-South Carolina area of the Atlantic seems like a big brown lake. :) The tidal marshes there are very cool. New Orleans? Chattanooga is fun but no beach.
  3. I see unremediated dyslexia. Which is very sad. That's like something my oldest would write now, and we are working hard to remediate. My grandfather writes like that, but he was born in a different time to different parents and joined the military at 16 because he was bad at school. (And really, not many other options in rural Alabama to a kid with an alcoholic mother whose father died before he was born in 1933 without dyslexia, but I digress...) He's very bright and reads voraciously, but his writing sucks.
  4. You can tell the therapist to leave the friend request unanswered and she won't be able to send new ones. Therapist or her office needs to send letter on her behalf. You don't have standing. Holy unhinged Batman. If you decide to pursue a stay away order, your therapist's testimony will help. Ask the office to send you the issues with MIL in writing to keep in your document the crazy file.
  5. My Pinterest app keeps crashing and I'm on my phone... I've used it in the no-bake chewy bar type recipe. Natural PB is runny too, so the texture isn't weird to me. If the mix is too wet, throw in a tablespoon of wheat germ, ground flax, oat bran, or more oatmeal until it feels right to you. :)
  6. This is what I would do: Take screenshots of the texts. (Hold down the home button and the bar button at the top.) Email to Autumn and H's parents the screenshots of their daughters' texts. Text H back: Do not text YourDDname again. Forward your DD's texts to your phone and turn them off of her iPad. (Settings > Messages > toggle off) I'm so sorry for your DD. Why do people get kicks out of torturing others? I would encourage her to come to you with these things. Sharing is not the same as tattling!
  7. I grind my own flour and throw it in a bread machine, but only on the dough cycle. I either make rolls or buns or loaves (love my new pain de mie pan!). I agree with the suggestion to check thrift stores (or post on FB to see if any friends have one gathering dust) and try it on the dough cycle. I find using a kitchen scale to be so much faster as well. I put the pan on the scale and zero it out, then dump directly into the pan. :)
  8. I keep a spray bottle in the basket by my chair to spray cats who jump on the table. I grabbed it and squirted my older kids who were bickering about something. It diffused the situation and made them laugh which helped keep me from losing my temper too. I've also made them hold hands and sing. There can be too much togetherness. Is one an introvert and needs alone time to recharge? Play date with separate friends? Whining--I say, I don't understand whining. Say it again in your normal voice. Repeated whining generally means it's snack time or rest time. Water should be something even a 3 year old can do himself. I followed Montessori philosophy there. Small glass pitcher filled with water at kid-accessible location. Each kid has his own glass. If they whined for water, I'd ask why they were bugging me about it.
  9. I've bought split garbanzos before, and there are tiny little garbanzo beans too.
  10. From the Sunbutter website: SunButter® is also a great source of protein, and a healthy alternative to peanut butter: One-third less saturated fat 27 percent of a day's recommended allowance of vitamin E in one serving More iron More fiber I use it in granola bars but we prefer the taste of PB in sandwiches. My DH and kids love it as a dip for apples, but I grab almond butter for that. It tastes like ground sunflower seeds. The small jars aren't expensive to try it out. :)
  11. Is your last name Tebow by any chance? Wasn't he homeschooled? I thought there was some Florida law changed to let him play high school football even though he didn't go to public school.
  12. Our house was a FSBO but we had a buyer's agent. The owners were way overpriced at first, and our agent had to negotiate like crazy. Turns out the reason they listed FSBO was because none of the agents they interviewed would list the house at what they thought it was worth. If you're getting a mortgage, your mortgage company will do its own appraisal and they will not give you a loan for more than they feel the house is worth. If the sellers won't come down at that point, you either have to pay the difference in cash or walk away. Ask if they pulled permits on the basement renovations--that affects the value of the improvements.
  13. Wait, what? An SEC school has won seven straight national championships. We had five teams in the top ten final rankings for 2013. And if you separate the SEC East and West, those half divisions had as many or more guys drafted than any other whole conference at the 2013 NFL Draft this past week. Urban Meyer may be the devil incarnate, but he knew how to use Tebow's skills AND religious bent to their best advantage. Tebow's skills just didn't mesh with the NFL.
  14. Let her lie down, give her a lollipop early, earbuds in with music, and funny YouTube on the phone/iPad to stare at. Lots of distractions!
  15. Oh how humiliating for your DS. :( That's a really tough one. Something privacy related maybe? Lose her bedroom door, do lots and lots of research on privacy... I'm trying to think of good books on respect and gossiping. How to earn his trust back... Is anything else going on with her?
  16. Because New York is full of godless heathens? According to the Pew Forum, NY is 32% Protestant and 38% Catholic. Why exactly would he be out of place in New York? The owner, Woody Johnson, is a very conservative Christian. Self-proclaimed anyway, because how does anyone really know what any other man believes. I'm guessing many of the other players are Christians, statistically speaking. They're not making a big show of it like Tebow does. I think he was cut because he isn't as good as his hype. Denver way over drafted him, then had to ditch his contract. If anything, Tebow has gotten mileage out of his outspoken proselytizing. He wouldn't have been nearly as popular without that because his skills aren't there.
  17. 8 for DD. She may need another round later, but she needed an expander and some teeth were affecting her bite. Does your location have a dentist with X-ray capabilities? They should be able to send the films (most are digital here, but...) and photographs to an orthodontist for a consult.
  18. Our health insurance covered an OT eval for my daughter. It was recommended by the psychologist who did testing. She has dysgraphia (and dyslexia) and a funky grip. We're still working on sorting everything out... She loves to draw and can write neatly, though it is difficult!
  19. We usually just make bubbly water. I don't care for the Soda Stream syrups. You can add a splash of juice, or a flavored syrup like coffeehouses use for Italian sodas. After reading this blog post: http://iowagirleats.com/2013/03/28/copycat-caribou-coffee-sparkling-peach-black-tea/ I've been making sparkling tea. I make the iced tea at least 2x as strong though. Lemon simple syrup is good in it too, and you can use flavored, unsweetened teas to be healthier. :)
  20. Eye, ear, and dental exams are required here. There are free dental exams (basically the dentist just looks in and sees if the kid has teeth) available from a list of dentists, and the health department will do the eye and ear exams.
  21. I sync mine with my google calendar: https://support.google.com/calendar/answer/99358?hl=en DH syncs his with his work calendar and our google calendar. Doesn't mean he actually looks at it, but...
  22. When you misspell it, it's not vulgar! ;)
  23. Please go talk to someone. Get some tools to manage your anger. Your ADHD could exacerbate things. Depression can too. Once you get yourself under control, you can tackle your daughter's issues.
