  1. Having not been on the forums for months, I thought this thread would have been buried! However since it is still going I thought I would give an update. My dd10 has now been attending Laurel Springs for 5 months. She is enrolled in a mix of 6th and 7th grade courses. I can not say enough about how wonderful Laurel Springs is. My daughter is thriving. It definitely is doing school at home but that suits her. She is doing the online program, was placed in courses based on her ability, has constant contact with teachers, gets written feedback on assignments, has a choice of assessment options so she can chose one to suit her learning style. I could go on and on with all the positive things about Laurel Springs. I'm sorry the previous poster had a bad experience but we think laurel Springs is fantastic for our needs and situation. If anyone wants any more information please feel free to get in touch!
  2. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I really appreciate you all responding. We have 5 more sleeps before we head off and all this info is going to be a great help with the planning.
  3. Thank you both! Kristen, wow, my head is spinning with information. I will have to print a map off and get studying. Thank you so much for taking the time to type that all out.
  4. We are arriving in Seattle this Saturday for 2 1/2 weeks! This is a last minute trip that was only booked today! We want to get up to Vancouver by doing a big loop. I am hoping the wonderful people on here have some brilliant suggestions for me. It will be myself and my dh, dd10 and ds7. We are more outdoors/country/seaside people than city people but will spend a couple of days in each city. We will be hiring a car and are seasoned travelers so please send me any and every idea you have. I need to pull together an itinerary by Friday when we leave. We are from New Zealand so please explain things like you are talking to a tourist!! Thank you in advance for your advice!
  5. My 7 1/2 ds still struggles if he is super tired and goes into a deep sleep. He was actually dry all through summer with only 2 accidents. However now he is back at school and is getting more tired by the day and wet the bed. So I just wake him 2 hours after going to bed and then he is fine. He goes to bed at 7:00pm and I wake him to go to the toilet at 9:00pm then I wake him for school at 6:00am. School starts at 7:30am where we live!!
  6. I think you have already got some wonderful advice from fellow Kiwis! As you get closer to your trip, if you have any specific questions we could probably help out more. I think you would be wise to chose just one of the islands. Think about what you really want to see and do there and the choice will be obvious. The NZ tourism site is full of information as someone else already mentioned.
  7. Nw Zealand is really having a run of earthquakes in the Wellington and top of the South Island area! It's been going on for months now. Pleased you and all your family are okay. I hope everyone manages to get home tonight, since I hear all the trains have stopped. Hopefully they will get it all back to normal again by Monday.
  8. My kids earn movie dollars for reading extra books. I just made up the dollar coupons on the computer. They get one movie dollar for each book they read at the required level. They need 5 movie dollars to pay for a movie or 10 movie dollars for the movie and snack. Realistically we would be going to the movies anyway so it isn't actually costing me anything extra. It works well for my 7 year old son who needs external motivation.
  9. Ironing!!! I despise it and avoid it completely. My MiL was devastated when she watched my husband get the iron out and iron his own shirt. I was disqualified from the 'daughter in law of the year' competition for a lifetime at that precise moment if the look on my MiL face was anything to go by.
  10. Thank you so much for your reply. It is great to hear from a current user. I am pleased that you and your daughter are enjoying using Laurel Springs School and are having a positive experience.
  11. Just put our order in too. We are going to start this in summer!
  12. Thanks for the information, every little bit helps. I will keep researching our options and hopefully one day soon everything will fall into place.
  13. Ds6 Singapore math 2a and 2b Lots of reading Random science Dd9 Singapore Math 4a and 4b Lots of reading A lot of random science
  14. Thank you for the link. I have read through those reviews before but did so again. However most of those reviews are from 10 years ago and I guess I was just hoping for more recent experiences. Surely a school that claims to have somewhere in between 2-3 thousand students would have more people commenting on the Internet. Anyway thanks for taking the time to post the link, I appreciate it.
  15. Wow, you are all a huge wealth of information! Thank you so much for all the advice. I guess next time we are off island and back in the real world I will have dd seen by an orthodontist so we have a better idea of treatment. I don't think she has anything too complicated other than overcrowding but will be good to know for sure.
