  1. My youngest son is reading the series now and really enjoying them! So I'd say 10-12 is a good age. I wouldn't recommend them for any younger than that, as they do get more intense as the series progresses.
  2. I agree about the toothpaste. I suffered with them my entire life until I switched to Tom's of Maine Natural Toothpaste. Haven't had a canker sore in YEARS. You can buy Toms of Maine just about everywhere. It's a fairly common brand (unlike some natural brands that you can only find at health food stores). I highly recommend trying this. All you'll lose is around $3.00 for the toothpaste if it doesn't work.
  3. Ditto!! We've had 1 trick or treater venture to our house during the last 6 years! I gave him a full-sized Hershey's candy bar. :D
  4. I have to vote for Fighting Gravity! One of the participants lives in our county and I know his mom. :) Hope they win!
  5. My 8 & 11 year olds share a computer in the school room. My 16yo has his own computer -- he built it himself! :) -- and my 19yo has her own computer.
  6. I have 2 and 2! I have two children on the autism spectrum (my oldest son and youngest daughter), and two gifted children (my oldest daughter, who started taking college classes at 15, and my youngest son, who is currently working on a 9th grade level at 11). It's an interesting journey!
  7. Here's a link someone posted here awhile back about the process. Hope it helps! http://www.learndifferently.com/SAT%20SSD.htm
  8. My oldest is in her final year at the community college -- she will graduate in the spring -- and she lives at home. She's hoping to transfer to our local 4-year college next fall to complete her Bachelor's in Psychology because she knows it would be less expensive for us than to transfer to a school where she'd need room & board. A very wise move in today's economy!
  9. My oldest is starting her last year at the community college -- she'll graduate in the spring! Then it's on to a 4 year school to complete her degree in psychology.
  10. Sonlight Core K and Singapore Early Bird math were big hits here! And we added Sing, Spell, Read, and Write for phonics & Handwriting Without Tears. It was a great year!
  11. Closest hospital to our house is a good 35-45 minutes away. We do have an urgent care center about 10 minutes away and we've been able to take care of all of our urgent medical needs there over the last five years. The only time we've had to make the "big drive" was when our oldest had appendicitis. I'm glad our baby delivering days are over! When I had our 4 babies, we were 10 minutes away from the hospital.
  12. Ditto! :seeya: I'm a Libertarian -- fiscal conservative / social liberal
  13. We are! :seeya: Sonlight Core 100 with 2 boys -- ages 16 & 11
  14. I've seen them numerous places -- Walmart, Target, Toys R Us -- they're in the Crayola section. Dry erase crayons.
  15. We're painting today, too!!! We're creating a Disney bedroom for our youngest! So we have bright blue on the top and bright red on the bottom, with a white chair rail in between. Then we have lots of Disney decor to add the finishing touches. We're about halfway done right now and I can't wait for her to see it!! :hurray:
  16. We school year-round, and our current school year started 5 weeks ago. We're going to take a week off next month and visit Grandma, but otherwise, we will keep toiling away! ;)
  17. We're going to a friend's house for fireworks and a cookout. Their only son is going to Afghanistan in 3 weeks, so they wanted to have a really nice 4th of July send off for him.
  18. My 10yo is reading the series for the first time this summer...and loving it! After he finishes a book, he watches the corresponding movie.
  19. Yep! Hit 100 here today! My kids have been in our neighbor's pool every day this week, just to cool off! I think I'm melting! :svengo:
  20. 19yo - Gavin DeBecker - The Gift of Fear 16yo - George Orwell - 1984 10yo - JK Rowling - Harry Potter Book 2: The Chamber of Secrets
  21. Most of my 6th grader's subjects are in my signature line. Just add in Spelling Power and various art books from the craft store for art. Then there are the extracurriculars of science club, chess club, public speaking class, and swim team.
